Trying the no till for the first time this year. I have sprayed my three times and will be planting in the next week or two. Super excited!!!

Happy too report minimal weeds on my foodplot the buckwheat definitely did it’s job smothering out/shading out the weeds gonna be spraying into it and spreading fall seed as well as rolling Ova buckwheat thanks again for all your help over the past 3 years godbless

Love it. The easiest plot I have is spreading lime on my meadow once a year, then fertilizer in late summer and from there just brush hogging it down. Grows lush through late November, always have lots of deer in it. Lazy man special.

Best Whitetail deer content and information on RU-vid. I went a brassica clover mix this year. Should I use urea on that as fertilizer?

It's a good thing when you enjoy the food plotting and preparation as much as the hunt (or at least almost as much). Because hunting season will be here and gone within what will feel like a week. Just bought a Tar River Saya 505 no till. So pumped to try it on the fall plots.

I am planting mine next week because we are down here in SWVA! Doing no till this year and going to crop rotate like you talked about!

If you have anything that will pull a small disc harrow and a brushhog I find it cheaper and faster than chemicals. I start a new plot in the fall by brushhogging as short as possible. In the spring I add needed lime and disc harrow the top 4" to uncover roots. I hope that ragweed and amaranth will take over because they are a natural cover crops that protects from erosion, shades out other plants, holds moisture, and builds soils. About August 1st I brushhog the ragweed-amaranth, add fertilizer and disc the top 2". The ragweed and amaranth will not come back after August 1st. I add my seed and like to pack it down for best germination. I find this takes less time and far less cost.basically weed free but lack of rain can affect everything.

Hey Jeff, I planted into my buckwheat last week however we had a few wind storms lay some of it down before planting. Will most of the seed find their way to the soil?

Thanks for the latest and greatest how to video. I have about an acre left to plant in the U.P. sprayed twice so far. bottom land more or less. Good topsoil im not going to lose if i plow or disk due to erosion. floods in the spring. I will plant half in oats-peas and layered rye no till hand broadcast and the other half disked prior to planting with same about labor day. Will see what one works the best. You will not make any friend with Kubota, John Deere or Kiyote compact tractor dealers for DIY food plotters since they will no longer need tractors to plow, disk or rotovate. The one question i have still is with clover plots being changed to brassicas or cereal blends. Do i need to rotovate living clover in for the "green manure effect" or can i spray these just prior to planting also for the added N?

When using plot start do you use the same sprayer that had Glyphosate? How long do you rinse out the tank if you do.

Hey Jeff, did you broadcast only in this plot or did you cultipack also for better seed to soil contact? Would it be beneficial to cultipack in this scenario?

Hello Jeff. I watch all of your very informative you tube vids as soon as they appear. I have been using your no till method with some success. My biggest problem however is with both turkeys and crows eating the seeds before they can germinate. Short of drilling or dragging my plots , would you have any advice to minimize the hungry foul in my area?

I'm putting down some seed this weekend because we have some rain coming. I'm doing the north woods whitetail brassica blend on half and the green forage blend on the other half. Should I plant them at the same time or hold off a few weeks on the forage blend? We're in the norther part of lower Michigan.

Hey Jeff, I have a populated wild brook trout stream running through the middle of my 11 acres. It’s a fantastic piece with a ton of wildlife. Because of the stream I don’t want to use any chemicals or fertilizer. I planted buckwheat in a small opening and it came up pretty good considering the seed was just spread on top of weedy ground. Do you have any suggestions to combat the weeds without chemicals. Also could spreading lime affect the water quality? Thanks

With the plot start chemicals...do you add it prior to seeding, during, or after?

I had a time getting a good buckwheat crop for two years. But this year It was great. I changed nothing and followed your methods to the word. Only thing different this year was I missed the early spraying and my rye was super tall this year before I sprayed but it worked great. I don't know the difference in results if anything it should have been worse this year.

Hello I've planted food plot last year for the 1st time and we did really good, my question is now, what should I do now to re plant it? should I kill my previous deer food plots? or just mown and troth new seeds? What should I do? Thank you

Jeff is there any reason for planting your corn so late? I see you planted quite late last year too. If this is late July like you said you are really cutting it close for the corn to even finish growing. You might have some moldy ears this winter.

So after labor day sow 200 pounds of the rye per acre. Than I know you said too layer it. I can't remember the schedule after the first spread of rye. Is it 200 pounds every 2 weeks past labor day until it has a total of 3 applications?

What do you recommend to burn off marestail (horsetail). Have a big problem with it!

Jeff, do you think this weekend would be too early to plant the Northwoods Fall Forage blend with Tillage radish? I have a small (3/4 acre) plot in a wooded area with absolutely no ag nearby and a small but hungry deer herd. There's supposed to be rain every day next week and I still plan to top dress the plot with rye in September.

I am starting a new food plot this year in PA. I just purchased 15 lbs. of Forage Radish to start this plot off. Stupid question, can I spread the seed right to the ground after I killed all the vegetation off or will I need to till up the soil and spread?

Jeff I know your practices by heart, I have been following you for many years now. I plant all my food plots in very similar fashion as you do. One question I have to ask and I hope you can answer. Why did you go away from using the RTP genesis no till? I feel like if one has the means to use it then it would eliminate a step such as planting the buckwheat. Just curios what your thought is on this.

Jeff,after your 3 initial sprays would it be beneficial to drag a chain harrow over the thatch before or after seeding?

Jeff, how long do you think brassica seed can sit on the ground without any rain? We have had nearly no rain over the last month and none in sight. Kind of at a loss when to plant. Should I wait until later this month when it looks like rain or try to lay it down now? I realize time is running out to get it started. The food plot is in northern West Virginia.

What setting on the 2750 for buckwheat? Soil requirements? Using your seed 100% next year.

Does the brassica seed fall down through all that dead thatch pretty easily or do you do anything to guarantee a better seed to soil contact?

I envy how accessible chemicals are in the USA, in Canada most chemicals are banned for non-agricultural uses and banned for non-licensed purchases, even small-scale farmers are finding it harder and harder to obtain them.

I'm in central WI and am planting the WHS brassicas and green blend. The soil is like a sponge where I'm at. It's been wet all year. I'm worried if I plant now the seed will rot, but we've got rain coming the next few days. Do I try it now or do I wait? I'm worried if I wait any longer it'll get to be too late.

And also do I use deer grow that you use on your videos

Thanks for another great vid, Jeff. Due to poor soil my buckwheat cover crop was a fail. I am thinking of spraying to kill any weeds, apply Plot Start to help with soil PH for this year then planting 100% layered Rye. Would you concur or advise a different process?

Hi Jeff. North woods does not sell peas on their own. When you say peas what type? Forage Pease? Planting first time plot like you in video and hope to do Ultimate no till next year. Also I’d Forage blend something to consider for first time plot? Thanks!

Hi Jeff, you say food plotters make bad farmers and farmers make bad food plotters. One thing I don’t get is why can’t the farmer apply the same practice/ he uses on his ag fields to a small one acre plot and get as good or better result than no till? How is it different? I am not a farmer and I appreciate your tips as your no till method is how I made my first winter Rye plot last year, but I think I’m Missing something.

Goats could make it weed-free - but that has different costs and other friction associated.
