Looking good Jon! I have too much crap in the one room to be as tidy and organised as this, but my 800XL and the STE now sit neatly on a stand-up desk so don't have to keep moving or unplugging stuff. Looking forward to some crisp 4k repair videos!
Thanks Darren. Simply having a 'spare room' for storage is an improvement on the old place, so at least I have a clear demarcation between shelves full of 'stuff' and a relatively tidy working environment. I even have that dedicated packing desk now too, although it's already cluttered with boxes. :) But the floor's almost completely clear! I won't be making 4K repair videos, unfortunately, unless they're pre-recorded on the phone for whatever reason. I use Open Broadcaster and although the cameras are 4K/30fps capable, encoding such a video stream in real-time is a no-go for these 8th and 9th gen Intel i7 PCs. Perhaps if I upgrade to a beast in the future, but the current machines are well-suited to 1080p/30fps (I keep it at 30fps just to have NV12 video, which I prefer).
Looking good Jonathan! I'm going through a lot of the same issues with too many things in to little space, but it looks like you are getting a handle on it. I'm looking forward to your next video. I'm having a wiring crisis with my new 1090 replica. At least the 80 column card swaps one HDMI cord for the Composite cable from the Atari. Are you planning on doing any more guitar playing videos?
Thanks Michael. Getting there, as you say, but it seems to be all open-ended spending at the moment, and then finding out this and that isn't quite right. Then more spending and time-consuming work and disruption. :) I'd like to see more of the 1090. As for the guitar: yes, I'm definitely planning on making more videos, and might spawn a second channel for the purpose. I feel like some things have just 'clicked' lately (probably because I've made a concerted effort to study more jazz standards).
The wardrobe that the previous owner left really worked out well in your Atari storage room. As for the studio... that really looks well organized, and the lighting choices seem to be doing the trick!
Thanks Michael. And yes: the previous owner leaving those wardrobes was really significant, since it ended up prompting me to buy the same cabinets for the custom-built wardrobes in the bedroom, and this turned out to be much more practical and cost-effective than any pre-assembled, off-the-shelf solution. And the fact I could order extra shelves for the existing IKEA cabinets was just great and quite unexpected.
That looks good Jon. A lot more organised than it was when I saw it a couple of weeks ago. Always easier working in a tidy environment than with stuff lying all over the shop.
Thanks Mick. In other news: I fixed the TI-99/4A last night which I think I showed you the other week, and with that out of the way, it's only the ST and A600 which are a little off the beaten track so to speak, but I might tackle them later in the week, or at least make a start. The rest of the queue, being relatively mundane, seems less intimidating with one of the unfamiliar machines out of the way, so your suggested strategy for attacking the backlog has proved high effective so far.
@@flashjazzcatglad to hear it mate. I found when I used to buy and repair iOS devices that getting all the easier jobs out of the way reduced the stockpile very quickly and eases the stress levels. I’m sure you’ll get there mate. Look for ward to seeing the vids on the ST and A600.
Very nice! My work space looks like a cat got to it, really need to find the time to clean it all up so I am not soldering stuff in my lap. Yes, it is horrific as it sounds.
Nice setup but you talk about the amp and the guitar is right next to it and you don't demo it! How do you manage test gear? Every time I get the scope out it seems to make the worst tangles of any gear on the desk. (I'm also with the Ikea GU10 spots, after installing 2 x 3 in a small space I am still surprised how little light they make.)
LOL - good point about the guitar and amp. :) Yes: the scope makes a tangle of wires, and this is why I've reorganised things to try and keep the rest of the clutter down. I might try to purchase some short IEC cables as well, since there's a lot of redundant loops of mains wire under the desk. Regarding the spotlights: mine are 6500K 4.2W lights (345 lumens), and although that's not the brightest, they create harsh shadows, so I might order some 7W bulbs with frosted lenses to see if that spreads the light out more evenly. I avoided the IKEA bulbs mainly because they were warm white. What wattage bulb are you using?
@@flashjazzcatMine claim 7W 700lm - not sure I believe that and they certainly dim with time - also 2700K, I might need to go to a higher color temp to increase perceived brightness. I like cords intended for kettles on test gear, they tend to be short.
@@adameberbach Good call on the IEC cables. They're often known as 'kettle leads' anyway, so it makes sense. I did order the 7W 6500K frosted bulbs, only to find 4.2W frosted bulbs in a local shop thereafter, and the ones I ordered haven't dispatched yet. :) It's excruciating, but I'm sure I'll get the lighting to my satisfaction if I spend another week and some more money on it. :)
