How can you create something that was already created. Columbus discovered America that was already live and well. HIP HOP WAS HERE BEFORE JAMAICANS AND LATINOS.

Black Americans created and built Hip hop; Pueto Ricans and Jamaican West Indies helped expand it. I would argue that Rapper's Delight influenced and opened the door for many multicultural communities to get involved with Hip Hop. Notice in the 80s Dance Hall broke through in the US and it developed Reggaeton into what it is now due to Hip Hop's influence.

Im a journeyman wireman(commercial electrician). When looking at a hi-rise building that I "contributed" 18 months of work to, I can pass that building and say " I built that building". So can the sheetrockers, or the pipe fitters or the plumbers and bricklayers. Each trade comes at different times to construct the entity. Who is there from the initial design and ground breaking when it's an open field of dirt? Some trades are there literally from the beginning. Others come when the foundation is already set and we're now on a contiuing upward. The guys who pour concrete give the footprint for the building to stand on. Who designed the plan (blueprint) for the building itself? Everyone contributed but who were the designers, the architects? That's what we're talking about with this genre and culture. Different eras where others came in and put in some heavy work. We can't leave anyone out of the conversation, however, who are the designers and architects of this beautiful culture and music? Who was there working when the project (hip hop) was coming out of the dirt?

Go back to the beginning of Jazz that is the root of it all and it started, It started with the Blues sung by the slaves from Africa, the call and response. That combined with Afro-Cuban rhythms adding the clave to the beat that became early Jazz. So the linage of Hip Hop can be traced back 100 years to the birth of Jazz.

Latinos -- Puerto Ricans particularly -- please explain how you co-created or co-invented yet another installment in the legacy of Black Musical expression known as Rap and Hip Hop, yet didn't co-create or co-invent any of the elements of the 14 or so African American music forms that predated it? Or why you were nowhere to be found and absent during the creative and inventive foundation outlining the forms of African American musical expression, brilliance and greatness throughout, or even prior to the previous 14 or so African American music forms that are mentioned above yet then, all of a sudden--out of nowhere, you folks come along and claim you co-created and co-invented Rap and Hip Hop 50/50 half n half (which is the evidence-free and utter nonsense being peddled by Dr. Derrick Colon, Fat Joe and numerous un-informed latinos---claims you all never mentioned or verbalized during its inception in the early 1970's)---latinos claims of "50/50--half & half co-creation and co-invention just don't add up---it makes no sense and are increasingly becoming scrutinized and debunked--widespread. Undoubtedly Kool Herc and people like Bambaataa, Caz, Kool Dee, Flash, Mario, Theodore, and Coke La Rock are forefathers who laid the foundation for hip-hop. I believe those guys were all African-American or Caribbean. But it should be acknowledged that Latinos were at these parties from the jump and they contributed to the culture. DJ Disco Wiz and DJ Charlie Chase are pioneers, since 1975. Crazy Legs is a pioneer. Whipper Whip. Ruby Dee. Tracy 168. Look at the photos Joe Conzo was taking in 1976. People act like hip-hop was just created one night in 1973 and that was that. It evolved for years before the first record even came out. Latinos should be acknowledged for their contribution to a culture that was very much still growing and developing at the time. P.S. no, I was not there. My view is based on photos, flyers, and accounts of people who were there in the formative years. If you want to share your own experiences I’d be happy to hear them.

We have to define what is meant we we say “from the very beginning”. Are we talking about the first 2 years (let’s say 1970 - 1974) or (1974 - 1978) or the whole first 10 years? Hip Hop comes out of Black culture. Contributions are different than creating something.

If we say that Blacks, West Indians and Puerto Ricans contributed to the evolution, doesn't it stand to reason that Blacks brought something to the table? I mean if I tell you I have a tub of water, do I need to tell you it's wet? What we call Hip-hop MUSIC specifically, evolved over time in the mid 70s. This didn't happen anywhere outside of New York. So Black American music was the raw fabric that it was made from. It's like you have a bolt of citten fabric. It's just fabric. What you do with it determines if it's a pair of pants, curtains or a table cloth. Hip-hop music was the culmination of what was made out if that raw fabric.

Now DJ Kool Tee and DJ Mr. Lee (early DJs from the West Bronx) used to give us our respect and say, "Check out the Puerto Rican B-Boys in the house! B-Boy Spiderman and B-Boy Spiderweb!" And we got busy and that was way back. Back then there were a lot of Zulu B-Boys around. They sorta ran it back then. As for the Puerto Rican B-Boys we were just up and coming. You know, we were people who wanted to learn it and got good at it 'cause, you know, they say Puerto Ricans actually put B-Boys on their back. We're the ones that started the backspinning and all these kind of moves. As far as the footwork and the flip turns that they did....that came from the Black B-Boys." The problem is the people have no reference for the birth of hiphop. They believe commercial idea of it. At the very beginning was before New York. So that why people get confused in the first place because it came from the south black slaves.

That's not true that hip hop wouldn't exist without the oppressive forces of America... We were doing similar things, such as stylish dressing and musical poetry, in Lisbon, Portugal before we were expelled to West Africa and put on those plantations during the Inquisition. Do the research.
