Vegas doesn’t think it’s a stagnant incompetent city. This solved nothing they let people out on bail look at history of DUI’S? They focus on people with irrelevant past offenses meanwhile even your neighbors can kill you with no consequences. What is this going to do? All this because they fund for stupid frivolous laws like targeting people with old allegations, but when they have to put people in jail they let them go because they don’t want to waste money. How is this going to work exactly? The mark of the beast? What a bunch of dumb people running Las Vegas they sure love branding people with old past offenses but ignore actual violent crime and their history of DUI ~none of these people are astronauts that’s for sure.
I was robbed of $200 for the groceries at Albertsons. They stole my cart and my groceries. And there's video of it and license plates. Give me a break they don't want to catch nobody. Maybe if they're hurting the casinos bottom line but not us locals that are victims of a crime and have our whole months of food stolen
I know a person who got their phone stolen by a hotel maid. Camera caught her and all, but police said they won’t do anything because it’s too minor for them to pursue.
@@jeffreyt76 I'd bet good money that that's not what they said. Be honest. What camera caught her? There's no cameras in hotel hallways or in the rooms. Sounds like you made up a story because you're butthurt about something else.
They don’t need extra security. All the hotels have extremely expensive facial recognition software there’s a reason u have to get the real ids. If they don’t want u there in their casino they’ll Know. Whether they snitch and get u arrested is another story. Cummon Man U think they don’t get hooks for the high rollers. They don’t want them gone.
People will gladly welcome the surveillance needed to pull this off and the violation of your constitutional rights. The strip was built by criminals.. they hate competition.
Like gun free zones and drug free zones, this won't work to be honest. No way to really enforce the law if you have no way of tracking which person is a criminal unless your literally gonna check every person's ID when they come through. And let's be honest, criminals don't abide by the law, do you really expect a sign to stop them from doing what they want?
So are they giving the police the ability to ask for ID because they think the person may be prohibited? For example a police officer walks by someone and says, “I think I know you. Let me see some ID to verify your identity.”
@@b.n180 So what you are advocating is that facial recognition system be used on all citizens walking the corridor. Yup, that doesn't open Las Vegas to a lawsuit.
How about enforcing the laws we have in place? Every cop I've talked to said the same thing a lot of the crime is repeat offenders. Nevada is now CA and it sucks. So how do you enforce this without violating people's rights? This will lead to tyranny on the strip another liberal policie failure.
So a criminal who broke the law (probably many times) is expected to all of a sudden care about laws? If they followed the law they wouldn't be in their current situation. People living in lala land
If "tougher prison" were the solution... Then why has nothing changed? Why do other countries handle it differently with lower recidivism (that's a fancy word for re-committing the same crime)?
As a local for many many years, is this for tourists also, it would be safer for folks if more security is hired even on bikes both strip and downtown as a baby boomer and my friends we think we would feel much more safer with more security on the streets plus it would help with folks needing jobs if part time or full-time.
Thank you !!!! Hire more security and create more jobs but instead they say no to the logical response and say let's just ban anyone convicted of a crime smh that's Discrimination in my eyes
Smh that's sad that your mind honestly thinks like that and you will say that until it's one of yours then it's a problem right and me myself I've never been convicted of any crime in all 32 years of my life but I do believe EVERYONE deserves a second chance including you ! Stop with your childish thinking and be your own man stop following the fucking leaders it's okay you have a mind too you can think how you like
@joe your part of the problem in todays society with your thinking and principles that you abide by I'm not a murderer nor a thief and don't go places just to commit crimes and others convicted of crimes don't always go looking to break the law either but you assume that all do...you bring to reality what you put in your thoughts and have no respect for your fellow Americans who have/had to experience prison from your ignorant comment ...you may think your different and that this is no big deal until the shoes on the other foot ...humble yourself you don't know where or what could happen in the next days months or years in your life don't throw dirt on people if you've never had to go through what they had to
The only way this really works is if you have facial recognition cameras posted on each block of the strip... Each camera constantly scanning and analyzing each person's face and then have the ability to relay information to local police when it gets a "match"
They may have it already and not saying. Who knows. If not, it will be here soon all over. We have no idea half the stuff Homeland Security has since the Patriot Act was passed. If you really think crime can continue across this Nation the way it is, you better think again. Facial recognition will be a game changer.
@@doneown503 if you want safety you will lose some privacy. What's the problem if you are not breaking the law? Only those that break the law are nervous about it. I'm not. I would rather have criminals locked away. Everybody records everything and everyone anyway with their phones, so what's the difference?
Jail sentences up to one year are for misdemeanors. More than one year is for felonies. Remember, they are free because they already served their sentence for the original crime. So, how is only being free another felony? This is near to unconstitutional.
I just realized after watching it won’t work I work casino security on the strip if a judge has too place the order per person charged it won’t work because judges don’t very frequently use it for trespassing or prostitution
@@inesland yea that cop on vacation from Washington got stabbed and killed on the strip by a guy who was banned from being on the strip. It obviously doesn't work, come up with new ideas instead of the same old stuff
IMPOSSIBLE TO DO THIS WITH OUT FACE RECOGNITION CAMERAS? so I'm guessing we are officially rebealing the privacy act that we have been monitoring individuals with face recognition software cameras for years.
The City of Las Vegas did this for downtown area. Arrestees received an order out for the downtown corridor. It was later challenged by the ACLU and found unconstitutional. The program was discontinued.
It’s basically trespassing. If you get convicted of a crime on the strip, that basically means you can never go back cause then your subject to arrest.
@@kingoftrolls19 That's what I'm talking about. Anything public property they can't arrest you. If you're not wanted for a crime you have every right to be there.

As long as it is adjudicated and not just cart blanche, if so it might be unconsitutional. Like most laws past by politicians, it is meant to make them feel like they are doing something. In reality, it would be rarely enforced and makes life harder for the average citizen.
Did you not listen to anything they said in this video? Also I'd love for you to explain to me how this bill would make life harder for a citizen? It has literally nothing to do with the citizenry.
@@joeaardvark9214 SImple, police resources being tied up on such laws while other issues go ignored or giving cops more control over every day life. By fact, most laws are ignored anyway. Do you know every citizen coomits a crime several times a day, without realizing such. Read the book, Three Felonies A Day. I
@@minirunt Bro I can't make this any more simple for you. This bill is for REPEAT OFFENDERS who commit crimes ON THE STRIP. The crime spike on the strip right now involves robbery, armed robbery (muggings), larceny, assault, etc.
@@joeaardvark9214 No. it involves felonies and misdermeanors. In Nevada misdemeanors include from shoplifting, breach of peace, jaywalking and, common, drinking alcohol from a glass container (this is a misdemeanor on the strip and Fremont). In reality, a judge can already order someone he convicts as condtiion of parole or probation from going to the strip or other areas.
labors cost is about to go the the roof. hard finding help now. small service jobs like cooking and cleaning are stepping stones for those with a record to get back into society
Good idea but unenforceable. No amount of training for the officers is going to give them the memory they will need to remember thousands of criminals faces and recognize them. If they're convicted of a crime in the corridor then the only way to enforce this new rule is to put Lo-Jacks on all of them for that year so they can be tracked. If they remove the Lo-Jack then it's off to prison with them when they are caught.
@@Smeeks87 I don't see how they could enforce it without profiling. There's no easy answer and I agree, it's a bad idea at it's core. Just wish law-makers would think things through a lot farther before enacting a stop-gap measure (puttin' lipstick on a pig) that plain won't work.
Well like i have misdemeanor assault charges but that was 9 years ago and they aren't from Nevada state so does that mean I can't go to the strip now?¿?
Well good luck metro. Unless they plan on tagging said criminals with a chip like they do for pets or having them wear some type of monitor that sets an alarm off when the people who arent allowed on the strip end up on the strip... Does this mean that they can't take the bus if the bus goes on the strip? Does this affect gig workers or union workers or other contractors who have people convicted of certain crimes on their payroll or is that an exception?
Banishment seems pretty iffy constitutionally. Like what if you make your living in that area? There needs to be some sort of plea bargain situation: accept the risk of a year in jail or accept a night in jail and a voluntary banishment.
It goes without saying the truth about it actually makes no real difference in controlling riffraff in around LVB just will wash them out to the service streets as this punishment is not nearly long enough to produce results in the future. I haven't seen LVB in over a year now including Fremont. The show COPS might be disappointed when they hear about this...
Exactly right. Parole violaters can be arrested on the spot. Most of the comments posted though show inability to understand this, likely Biden-Harris voters.
A year...only a year? And they are carving out a bunch of areas, it's a feel good BS ordinance. Please...3 years min. from all areas. Also please let Police profile again that would really help.
F*** the strip worry about being safe when you shop at Albertsons. I was robbed at the grocery store $200 worth of groceries purchased with my food stamps stolen from my card inside the store as I went back to get some more cheese
Sounds like a ordinance that will be abused by tyrannical people that are drunk on power oh you got a speeding ticket now you can’t come to the strip for a year oh jaywalked can’t come to the strip for a year got a job well that sucks looks like you’ll be unemployed now too but be sure you pay your fine for your court case
Hmm I’m split between this. I like this law only reason being cause Vegas has been going down hill and people need be held accountable On the other side it seems like cops can just stop you for no reason now.
What if you have been convicted of a thought crime?Or you have the wrong friends that the government doesn’t like? This gives government too much power.
It’s like SOAP probation…conditions of probation for a determined amount of time. caught in the area and it’s a probation violation..jail for the rest of your probation period.
This is the stupidest idea I've ever heard. If you don't want them on the strip then keep them in jail. If you think it's OK for them to be around locals but not tourists then wtf does that say about you?
"Those who would give up essential liberty to purchace a little temporary safty, deserve neither liberty nor safety." ~B. Franklin The 5th Amendment to the Constitution protects the right to freely travel. To enact a law or local ordance, banning the right of free travel, even on the Strip, would violate that right. Clark County and The City of Las Vegas, should realize that by enacting such an ordinance, will violate both that Amendment to the US Consititution and the very Oath of Service they took to hold a public office. While I am a firm believer that LVMPD is one of the best Departments in the Country, the officers are already taxed enough in the jobs they do now. You would need the current number of officers of the entire department to work one street, from The Strat to the Las Vegas welcome sign (6 miles), and perhaps even double that. The tax burdon alone is more than the County can afford. This is simply just a band-aid on the bigger problems that plague this city, it will fix nothing. County management needs to stop looking at individual problems and look at the County as a whole. We have greater problems that are contributing to this problem. Stop treating the symptoms this plague and insted treat the whole plague it's self. Starting with our roads.
Actually it is not a violation of rights. A private group owns and maintains the sidewalks on the strip, thus making that "Private Property". Seeing how walking in the road is illegal, they can and did do it. The city does not maintain or held responsible for any repair on the strip. Seeing how the city cannot control its Crime, this was set in place to assist the only reason Vegas is popular. Do your research before stating something is a rights violation.
@@urexpert1475 just looked up gis survey in clark county along with the maintenance maps of Clark County public works and both show it as Public property. A bit of research is easy to call BS on the private property claim
I think this would be more a 4th amendment violation is nothing else. How would anyone including police be able to know if a person is in fact a convicted person absent reasonable suspicion that a crime has been committed. You should be able to be secure in your papers without unreasonable search or seizure. I do agree that the problem is a far lager issue that people refuse to look at such as homeless encampment, human trafficking and prostitution, and a large amount of drug abuse in and around the strip. I just don't see many of these so called bans will work if a person just stands in front of a judge and argues a violation of rights absent RAS
Nope, still wrong. The Companies are responsible for the maintenance of the sidewalks on The Strip, thus making it private property. Just because the Public Works is under the sidewalk, doesn't make it public. Thier property line runs all the way to the street, you honestly believe the city maintains all that landscaping and cleans the sidewalk, lmao.
How is this not against the fucking bill of rights? How the fuck are you gonna determine who is a criminal, since you can't identify just anyone you see.
So they 86 you from the strip for a year if you commit a crime there and if u mess that up and come back and commit another crime you r gonna get hit for that w the trespassing too 🤷♀️
