Galatoire's in the French Quarter is one of the oldest creole restaurants in New Orleans. Galatoires being one of the oldest restaurants in New Orleans has a 115 year old tradition of bringing good creole food, good times and good people together in the French Quarter on Bourbon Street. Galtoire's is one of the most popular restaurants in New Orleans for locals during special occasions and traditional Friday lunch in New Orleans. In New Orleans today for this episode we eat a great lunch with the crew from NOLA Boils and Rockin' Dopsie Jr. We also get some live entertainment from Rockin' Dopsie Jr.

This is probably my favorite video on RU-vid right now. Literally just binge watching everything on this channel. Can’t wait to come here in July.

July is definitely getting into our hottest time of year so make sure to bring some comfortable Summer clothes and a Summer weight suit or sports coat for eating at Galatoire's. They have actually started taking reservations for Galatorie's these days as well due to staffing shortages. I would go ahead and make reservations at as many of the places as you can where you want to eat as the staffing shortages don't seem to be improving anytime soon so most restaurants are not able to fully open so seating is much more limited than usual. Thanks for watching!

Galatoire's is my all time favorite restaurant in New Orleans. Long ago, my father and his contemporaries ate lunch here every Friday while in Med School. He was also one of the first 10 people to ever have a Galatoire's credit card. As most locals know, celebrating a birthday here is a big event. They really put on a good show for the whole restaurant. One night, I counted 7 birthdays in about 4 hours. It's hard not to fill up on the amazing French bread and butter, but my usual fare is Oysters in Brochette or Crab Maison to start and Redfish Holandaise as a main course. The latter is not on the menu any longer, but they'll make anything you ask. Though, who needs a menu at Galatoire's anyway? - The Commodore

Possibly the greatest culinary experience in New Orleans is the friday lunch downstairs only and if cajun john fontenot is your waiter your truly blessed.

Many folks say most of the old buildings are haunted and many of the buildings do have dead buried under them and/or around them.

My godmother gave me a cookbook of Galatoire's years ago. I'd love to visit it one day
@NOLAGent1
@NOLAGent1 3 года назад
It is certainly a special place and you should certainly visit if you get a chance. Galatoire's, Arnaud's, Antoine's and Commander's Palace are now a style of restaurant that just don't exist in most places around the world anymore and things are changing fast so it is also important to visit it for the uniqueness of the cultural experience along with the food. Friday fun lunches are not what they used to be at Galatoire's and I don't know if they ever will be again but I hope they will be. When some food critics complain about it being too "old fashioned" that to many of us here in New Orleans is a compliment.

@@NOLAGent1 I'd love to! Reading the stories inserted in between the recipes really makes me want to visit the restaurant one day. I hope that, when things settle down, I can drop by the restaurant with my folks. 🙂

I love the tradition of this place as well as some of the side dishes and starters however, the last last few times have been kind of a let down. My wife has really gotten some not so great mains as I have too ( I ordered the off the menu fried chicken and it was bland, dry and overcooked. We have agreed to keep trying the restaurant as we have we will finally get that great meal there. We would love to have We would love to have lunch or dinner there with you one day ( it will be at least a year from now ) not only to meet you and have lunch but in hopes that it changes our luck there lol. If nothing else, please let me know the name of the waiter you like. Great video as always.

John Fontenot is many folks favorite server. Usually we just ask the waiter what is good that day and go with that or the options that they present as the best. If you eat in the downstairs dining room you often don't even get a menu and they tell you what is good that day. It used to be on Fridays you had to stand in line to eat in the downstairs dining room but these days they are doing reservations as they are still hurting for service staff like most places in NOLA these days.

Some homeless guy is walking by & wish they could munch down..

Our homeless get fed VERY well here. We have lots of programs with various groups and restaurants that makes sure they get more than enough food. Mike that works as a bartender on Mondays at Ugly Dog can tell you in great detail all the services that are offered. I've picked up the food from restaurants and grocery stores myself that goes to feed that population. The only folks I've ever encountered that go hungry are abused children, elderly or other individuals with disabilities or lack of control in their lives where they are in abusive situations.

Kind of embarrassing to have to tell this to someone named "NOLA gent," but it's "laissez LES," not "laissez LE."

Also, people often use "verbally" as if it meant the same thing as "orally," but in fact "verbally" just means "in words." So spoken information and written information are both verbal. - Your friendly neighbourhood grammar justice warrior!

@zarquondam You are absolutely correct for standard French usage in France. New Orleans has no local dialect of French left for the most part but there are still plenty of Cajun dialect French speakers and that dialect doesn't always follow proper modern France's current rules of French grammer. New Orleans doesn't even pronounce most English words properly much less any French or other languages words or follow any of their grammer rules exactly. NOLA really is a world to itself in many ways. France and most other countries also have plenty of regional dialects that don't quite conform to the "proper" usage as well. I know when I was in school in Montpellier, France it was quite an adjustment getting used to their dialect after having only learned Parisian dialect. Qubecoise movies I watched in France even had French subtitles as it seems many French have trouble understanding that dialect. I actually took my spelling from a New Orleans bar as ultimately my understanding is the entire phrase is considered gramtically incorrect from "proper French" and appears to be from the Cajun dialect. If you get a chance that bar is a fun spot to hear some great music! lbtrnola.com/
