This is a practice that goes back for over a hundred years in my great city of New Orleans, "the city that care forgot", "the big easy", or "the crescent city". Keep on the tradition of secondline and Jazz funerals.

There is a spirit in the people of NOLA that I have never felt anywhere else I have been. I have been fortunate to have been there pre and post katrina and that spirit and love for life is palpable. Go visit as soon as you can and experience it for yourself!!
How could I never came across this channel all this years?! This funeral performance has a deep meaning and impact for to celebrate the departed and gives comfort for the families. Thank you so much sir for sharing this video. Greetings from Addis Ababa in Ethiopia 🇪🇹.
I'm seeing a lot of bigots in the comments. Their idea is that this should ONLY be practiced in NAWLINS by BLACK folks only. That's so stupid. This is a tradition that can spread to anyone who shares the sympathy. RESPECT!
+Skyrilla You are right! All kinds of people - black, white or green - play and sing European opera and classic music. No European would ever say they cannot or should not do it. But some people elsewhere think that they are the only ones who can play a certain kind of music. The famous black trumpeter Roy Eldridge once said that he could recognize a black from a white trumpeter any time hearing him. When put to the test by a music critic,, he was wrong in almost each instance.
Skyrilla It will certainly play in Austin also in ??? I'm 63 now but traveled to the Big Easy often and learned not to go to the white $15000 nonsense This is a celebration!
im with you there. Celebrating the person has made it to heaven, or we're gonna make it so they make it to heaven. honestly its a fresh change of pace from sad funerals. like "yeah, he's dead, but we're gonna make sure he reaches heaven by celebrating his life" plus new orleans has white people as well so......like......suck it?
I'm currently celebrating the life of my good friend Debbie. This music is very real. Sad then happy. Kind of like how I feel now. Sad that she is gone, but happy she is in heaven.
Just A Closer Walk With Thee I am weak But Thou art strong Jesus keep me from all wrong I'll be satisfied as long As I walk Let me walk close to Thee. Just a closer walk with Thee Grant it Jesus it's my plea, Daily walking close to Thee Let it be, dear Lord, let it be Oh 'cause when my feeble life is o'er Time for me will be no more Guide me gently, safely o'er To Thy kingdom To Thy kingdom shore. Just a closer walk with Thee Grant it Jesus, it's my plea, Daily walking close to Thee Let it be, dear Lord, let it be Ohhh daily walking close to Thee Let it be, dear Lord Let it be Somente Um Andar Mais Perto de Ti Eu sou fraco Mas tu és forte Jesus me mantém longe do erro Eu estarei satisfeito assim que Eu andar Deixe-me andar perto de ti Só um andar mais perto de ti Conceda-me Jesus este é o meu pedido, Diariamente caminhando perto de ti Deixe estar, querido senhor, deixe estar Oh porque quando minha frágil vida terminar Não haverá mais tempo para mim Me guie gentilmente, com segurança para o Vosso reino Para as margens do vosso reino Só um andar mais perto de ti Conceda-me Jesus este é o meu pedido, Diariamente caminhando perto de ti Deixe estar, querido senhor, deixe estar Diariamente caminhando perto de ti Deixe estar, querido senhor Deixe estar
@fireforge21 It is the version of "New Orleans Function" as recorded by Louis Armstrong and his all stars in the 40ties! The first part is "Flee As A Bird" followed by "Didn't He Ramble"
Great, Kliko ! Thank you! I'm proud of the trumpet player, is the talented son of my old friend Köbi Etter, trumpeter of the glorious BOGALUSA NEW ORLEANS JAZZBAND, the Band I played with when I was living in Swiss !
I burried my father with this song in Germany 15 years ago. He was always such an enjoyer of the music. listening to it now makes me sad but also happy.
.. i must say that i love the new orleans funerals even if it is a 'black humor' in this, but i really love the dixieland music and all that process from walking to the end when everyone dancing... 👋 from Croatia 🇭🇷.. ❤️.. (you are the everlasting energy when you die, so... Dancing is the way to celebrate your life on other side.. 😁.. 👋...)
Fino a qualche anno, fa anche da noi, in Piemonte , a qualche funerale, si poteva vedere un qualche complessino del genere.... poi " Verboten " !!!!!!!!
So you know, the music before minute 3 is very, very similar to music they would play here in a procession, that is, when they take the image of Christ through the streets in a community. I think it can also be that of a saint, but my point is that I find such similarity funny. I was looking for the music that is played after minute three to the end. Thank you.
The "Grand Marshall", Alfred 'Dutt" Lazard, has been deceased for about 25 years now. In fact, many of the African Americans in this video are deceased.
Now when I die, bury me in my straight-leg britches, Put on a box-back coat and a stetson hat, Put a twenty-dollar gold piece on my watch chain, So you can let all the boys know I died standing pat.
This music, played by the living, is for the living. May they have pleasure in playing it. Me...I just want oblivion, and if I'm granted oblivion from Heaven, I won't hear the music. So...JUST ENJOY YOURSELVES, YOU LIVING! (and please, please be kind to each other).
Where can I find the lyrics of this song? I don't speak fluent english so I can't understand everything that he sais... All I can understand is: "Folks we're going to play ... New Orleans, Indiana(?). Tell a story about a man that he didn't ramble(?)" the second part: "And the family was crying..." something like that. Where did I find the lyrics, could you tell me, please? Thank you!
