If violent crime is everywhere, it's because it is tolerated everywhere. Make excuses for the killers, and release them after short prison sentences so they can go out and find more victims. It's the American liberal go-easy-on-crime way. There is no crime deterrent when there are no serious consequences. And no, the criminals are not the victims; they are the perpetrators.

nothing compares to new Orleans in the 80s and 90s. i'll never forget at 13 years old in 1988 I saw 4 bodies laid on the street their blood flowing out their heads and into the storm drain. I was shook for a long time.

Good lord, I remember my mom worked in new orleans (i'm assuming this time was mid to late 90's) and she told me stories about the violence and in the area she was in, car wrecks. She once told me she was walking to her work during her break with earbuds in listening to music and she had a car crash happen behind her and she didnt even notice. she also witnessed another car crash and saw someone in the street with their head split completely open, dead. That's just a bit of what she's told me but it goes to show that new orleans is dangerous and people should stay away if they can until things get fixed.

@TrainedACE Detained people who are in gangs. I mean, many gangs have tattoos symbols, post video about bragging they're in gangs, write graffiti in which neighborhood they are in, etc... they easily expose themselves and wouldn't be difficult at all to figure which one they are. The ones that everyone know they are in a gang should be arrested, and other unknown thugs would be way more careful and behave way more. I think it's a good idea. Another suggestion is to restrict rap music that encourages gang and violent style to rewrite the culture, but that will be considered r3cist, but I wouldn't mind since it is way better for the community.

I saw a guy fully pass out and crack his head on the street. 3 people got shot a couple of blocks away from where we were at 10:30 at night. A woman ran back and forth from a car on Canal openly selling crack at 11 in the morning - on a Wednesday. You know what I didn’t see? A. SINGLE. COP. Zero. Literally not one the entire trip. I’ll never again wonder why Americans want to carry guns in places like that. I honestly had no idea places like that existed in developed countries. You guys deserve so much better.

The city doesn't spend money on tourism. That is an excuse. You have families with criminal behavior ingrained in them. You have some families where EVERY male is a convicted felon. You got kids that are career criminals by the time they are 15. There is no education, no work ethic, or accountability in the hood. The kids are animals because the parents are criminals. The mayor does not see crime. The DA does not prosecute crime. The police do not want to arrest anyone from a "marginalized" community. Folks from the hood can do whatever they want. The mayor has their back.

@@frankmartin8471 You clearly don’t understand the economic correlates of crime. A lack of jobs, low wages, and underperforming schools create poverty and are not conducive to creating model citizens. In NOLA, Jobs: Black male unemployment is 10%, while it’s merely 4% for white males, low wages: minimum wage is $7.25 in NOLA, while it requires $16.79 an hour for a single, childless adult to support themselves here, poor education: while it’s significantly improved since Katrina, New Orleans schools are still low performing when compared nationally, and even compared to the rest of Louisiana. Addressing these issues would most certainly significantly reduce crime, across the board. Other things like behavioral intervention programs, which use cognitive behavioral therapy, have been shown to reduce violent crime arrests among at-risk youth by up to 50%. There’s hard science and real world examples of these policies working, but New Orleans has been plagued by incompetent and corrupt leadership for the last couple of decades… 🤦🏾‍♂
