I like the price and the minimalist features.I've been thinking of buying land and building a small cabin to live off grid in.This would make a great temporary shelter and great way to just grab and go on the fly fishing trip to wherever.

Several months ago I drove down to Rincon to speak with Steve personally and see his shop. He hooked up one of his trailers and we took it for a quick drive over some steep hills so I could see the trailer articulation. I have to say, TOP NOTCH construction. Steve is one of those talented people who prioritizes quality over quantity. Steve builds each trailer by hand and works closely with each customer to build EXACTLY what the customer wants. If you are a hard-core off-roader, Steve offers an independent suspension that removes the axle and provides a clean undercarriage that avoids potential axle damage. My first ever trailer of my own was an old 3 axle dozer trailer I hauled 2 antique tractors with to county fair tractor pulls. It was built in the same way as your camper with a center beam front to back. I have built many trailers over the years and that is one thing I did on EVERY one of them.

I didn't know you were full time! 😲 I thought this was just a weekend hobby, this is the definition of American dream. I'm so glad for you Jason!

I really like this setup. Everything I see is either too busy (therefore more fragile) or too spartan (not designed to withstand human habitation) This Overland is the best of both worlds. Not only is the interior simple and solid, the exterior is designed to be used as well. Love those sturdy fenders!

Wow very strong simple bed on wheels. I'm with you on not dealing with a wet tent and the security of a safe comfortable place to sleep and I mean weather wise as well. I do agree with one of the comments it was good to see it behind the Ford too.

Huge fan of the trailer!! I've got a jayco and you're soooo right about the quick setup. Most of the time I don't even disconnect the trailer from my jeep. I just roll into camp, jump into bed, wake up and keep on rolling. Thanks for sharing and really looking forward to tons of videos with the trailer and upgrades you make along the way!

Love the hitch, the full length receiver and the stout fenders.

I really like those doors. They look tough compared to most that look chiney. I also love your version of a rack. Way lower profile and way more versatile.

I must be a cleanfreakaphobic. With a setup like this I'd be going nut's with wet / dirty boots, cloths and dogs when storm camping... the fact that you've got the awning helps for sure but I can't imagine what you do with all the crud that needs to get clean and dried out. When I build my TearDrifter I'm gonna have me a mud room : ).

What I like about the trailer is that it’s built strong but has such a simple design. I’d probably like to see a vent/fan on the roof just for better air flow. But I really like this trailer and it’s price point.

Put that propane tank in a real (borrowed..) milk crate, (not the cheap Walmart copies).They fit perfectly and hold the tank without it rolling all over and no janky strap work to hold it down. Nice looking trailer!

Any thoughts about mounting a solar panel up top to power a small fridge and/or an electric blanket if the dogs don't keep you warm enough?

I'm finishing up my squaredrop camper. 4x8x4 3/4 plywood. I used fiberglass for the exterior. I still have some gelcoat work to finish, in the spring. I store-bought my door and windows. Would you insulate your floor? I used torsion indépendent axles. 15 inch tyres. I decided to put my door in back.

I think you are correct about some trailer pricing people out of the market. Like you, I'm a fan of simple, low cost, effective solutions and it's nice to know there's a trailer manufacturer making such trailers. On another note, it's nice to see some good shots of the Oregon outdoors (Eastern side of the Cascades?). I also live in Oregon and love the outdoors.

Nice trailer. Just curious why the back hatch isn't hinged at the bottom so it can fold down into a work table?

Hi, is there a benefit to having such a long distance from the hitch to the camper? I realise a certain amount is needed for turning etc but this really long. It's a longer distance better for off road use?

Hi Jason! Thank you for sharing this incredible trailer with us. I watched several channels with various set ups and they are all nice. However, I love this basic set up and the price, just under 11 grand, is a perfect start. What's really nice is that I would be able to drive down to Rincon, GA and personally talk with them about my personal preferences. Love and enjoy your channel. I notice you're driving a pick up truck in this video and a KIA Telluride in a later video. I own a 2016 Jeep Compass (4-cylinder 4X4) and hope that it will be able to tow the trailer; otherwise I may break down and trade up (Gladiator in mind).

Nice affordable setup. Some sort of step made of the same material as the front cargo rack, would be nice so you could stand out of the mud or clean your shoes off with out dragging dirt in. Maybe make it fold under or removable like on a receiver hitch.

Great idea Jason getting a really solid base model and then upgrading it to your own specifications as you get the money!

By chance, does the trailer share tire size and wheel pattern with your tow vehicle? I think that would be an excellent bonus spare that could make the difference between self-recovery and being stranded off road holding an empty can of fix-a-flat.

Looks like a decent basic trailer. I have the nucamp tag and at one time I thought about getting a camper for the back of my truck but quickly realized a small offroad capable trailer would be far better.With the trailer its great to get to a spot, drop the trailer and still be able to use the tow rig and you still have the truck for storage. One thing you might want to look at is the doors of the Tag trailer have a lip all the way around them that you can use them to attach a shower type tent(you have to macgyver it) so you can have a make shift porch for changing and storing boots and such. Something else I really appreciate about the Tag trailer is the huge centre Skylight. It allows huge light in and you really notice it if weather keeps you inside...huge bonus. That trailer frame looks like it will last a life time.

That’s a great looking trailer Jason, and the bonus is you haven’t got to lift the dogs up too far to get them into it. Keep up the good work and all the best from a wet and windy UK.

That is a Nice trailer! I totally agree with your perspective on having an affordable basic off road worthy trailer that you can customize and upgrade to suit your personal needs and desires. I'm really going to look seriously at one of these. I've got a 6'X12' cargo trailer now that I'm considering building out to pull behind my suburban but it is by no means as off road worthy as that drifter and its height though nice for standing is quite a wind block when towing and eats the fuel mileage. If your going to travel alot and do a good bit of off roading that drifter trailer would be hard to beat especially for us folks that dont have a ton of money to drop on the ridiculously priced over the top overland trailers.

I guess everyone has a different idea of what "affordable" is.

Been looking at Hiker trailers because they are very basic and cheaper than most. Will check these out as well.

A hinged diamond steel plate the same width as fender, mounted on top of fender with two removable legs would double table space. Did this on my trailer. Well worth time/cost to install.

I think this is a cool option for when our kids get older. Put the RTT on top? Would that be possible? For now we all fit in the RTT. Camper doesnt seem like it would be our style. We like to rough it out there haha

Packing up a wet tent is a huge hassle. Especially when it's during the rainy season and you have no covered area to let it dry out. It only takes a week or less to ruin it from mold. I'm going to have to settle for a canopy over my 8' truck bed. Nice trailer though. Thanx for sharing.

I am back rewatching. I am almost at the point of purchase I and think the stripped down driffter is still one of the best value/capability bundles.. How has it held up over the years. I don't see it in many of you more recent videos. It looks like you have gone full time van style.

On that fender one could attach a "bracket attachment" of some sort which could hold a ..say... 3 by 4 ft piece of plywood finished up nicely... to then form a "table" top ... perhaps make an attachment for it... on the roof top when not in use... or just poke inside the camper..and leave it up while camping

Nice basic off road trailer. Is is single wall or is it double wall construction with insulation in floor, walls, and ceiling? We have great places to travel here in Central Oregon during Cooler and cold weather. I have been out many times when temps drop to below 0 degree F and Oh, the stars on those nights are great. I look forward to your adventures.

How do you keep all your gear from flying around inside the camper when bouncing around the trail? Just strap it down?
