New owner gets DeLorean delivered from DMC Florida... Delivering the Dream!

Correct. The VIN number and engine number on DeLoreans seldom, if ever, match. In this case the Vin number and Engine number are actually pretty close only off by a single digit, 8 versus 9

We recently did another "delivering the dream" type video with a turn-key car from DMC Midwest, delivered to a Southern California new owner again. Somewhat different story but same result -- another happy owner who did not fork over his life savings for living the dream. This one will be coming soon!

DMC Florida has mine right now. Time to get an update on its progress. Needs the front fascia replaced, the AC gone through, and as with all DeLoreans, some electrical work.

I want to see this and the Cybertruck parked side by side.

I agree the prices are through the roof on DeLoreans. However right now it's a seller's market. The reason why the prices are so high is because of high demand and people are willing to pay that much. Kinda like the housing market in California! Today $30K for a running turn key DeLorean is a bargain. You are looking at more like $45-50K, even more depending on condition and upgrades.

A backboard (the carpeted piece that goes behind the seats in the cargo area), a sewable patch that goes on a hat or shirt, Trailing arm bolts, a identification sticker set and some other part I can't identify. I was in the Florida club back when it started.

They can actually but the VIN would need to exist first -- so essentially start with an existing car and replace EVERYTHING on it just about with New Old Stock parts...frame, body, engine. It's all possible. Just need $$$. "New" DeLoreans are coming in the future when the low-volume car manufacturing laws take effect!

@@stuntmanmike37 FWIW, Chris did spend a boatload of money on his first car after he bought it, trying to get it right. DMC CA did what they could within Chris's budget, but the car needed extensive restoration well into the $50,000 range. We theorize the car was in a wreck at some point as it had significant fiberglass "patch up" work. It may have looked okay on the outside, but it had major integrity issues, severe frame corrosion, and could never truly be 100% again without significant financial investment. So instead of throwing money at it, he decided to start over. He got a lot of advice from the DeLorean community. I personally believe he did the right thing in the end.

Car came with the original tail light circuit boards, which go bad after 40+ years. He told them not to replace them as he already had a new pair of boards that he bought for his first car.

I drove the car myself and it isn't by any means slow or underpowered. That is a misconception mainly associated with the automatic transmission DeLoreans, which are notably slower compared to a manual transmission car. For those who want speedier cars, the option with DMC is to order the motor with the Stage 2 upgrade which gets it to 200 hp. Turbo engine upgrades are also available -- but very expensive!

That's always an option but alas $$$$ is always the obstacle!

@@DeLoreanTECH I know of at LEAST 4 different Deloreans converted to Electric. They are better in every way. Better weight distribution, instant acceleration, and way more power than the stock motor. It also shaves off about 200 pounds making it even lighter. Every one of them is here on RU-vid, and the coolest one I seen was a fully autonomous one that literally drifted on a special course. It is seriously so superior to the stock engine it is shocking.

The DeLorean would make an IDEAL electric car. Someone should start a kickstarter project...

The plastic ones are a common failure point. The cars are nearly 40 years old and those bottles are fragile and will crack.

@@adamharriott6220 I'm surprised no one is manufacturing replacement ones currently. I wouldn't trust an opaque coolant container on any old car these days.

You can still check the coolant level in the car easily with the SS bottle.

Even when the plastic ones were new they were prone to failure. It's was an easy swap/"no brainer", and at least back then it was a bit more stainless bling (to the vast majority).

The low volume provision will allow small automakers to construct up to 325 replica cars per year subject to federal regulatory oversight. The measure establishes a separate regulatory structure for replica car manufacturers. The NHTSA had one year to establish a process for companies to register with the agency and to issue any necessary regulation to implement the law. In November 2018, SEMA threatened to file a lawsuit against the NHTSA if they did not comply with the law and issue the required regulations. In December 2019, the NHTSA released a document outlining the regulations. In January 2021, the NHTSA issued a final ruling to allow low volume vehicle manufacturing.

Engine is part of the character of old cars.

@@dafalzonAUS i agree, the euro spec ones didn't have the emission regulation stuff on them and performance was respectable. To me old cars are all about the noise, smell and vibrations, modern powertrain somehow doesn't fit to me.

@@DimitarStanev Just kidding around - Yeah, I shouldn't think about a 2.0 turbo swap, or EV for my DeLorean. In fact that's how I should think of my wheelchair. And it's got awesome cup holders! Buggerlugz A few people have LS swapped. Serious horsepower.

Electric power steering is an upgrade that is available. I've tried it myself and it's on the list. Stay tuned for a video on that! Automatic DeLoreans are fine -- however I recommend upgrading the motor to a Stage 1 or even Stage 2 to compensate for the acceleration differences between the auto and a manual.
