Really? What myth units would they get, pray tell? Because I am pretty sure they would end up like the Chinese and Egyptians were half the myth units are really just made up with no basis in actual mythology.

Plus, plenty of heroes!

@@johanlassen6448 Egyptians got Scorpion Men, Leviathan attack transports and Roc/Rukh air transports that were loans from the Levantine myths. At this point they should be introducing the Ushabti sentient constructs, the Ammit (a chimera-ish cryptid), the Serpopard and griffins/gryphons. Phoenixes can be respelled as Bennu. Anubites and Avengers are like Bloodletters of Khorne, duh. The Celts have Selkies (Siren-like cryptids), Kelpies (equine riverine spirits), Leprechauns, Bean-sidhe (banshee), Fomorians (amphibious giants), Oilliphéist (sea serpent), the Dullahan, the Redcaps (Scottish goblins), the Wulver (Scottish werewolf), Spriggans (Cornish restless forest spirits), the Pech (Scottish gnomes), the Bánánach (Irish battlefield demons), the Sluagh (restless spirits in limbo), the Merrows, the Ellén Trechend (King Ghidorah but Irish), the Buggane (Manx ogre), the Y Ddraig Goch (Welsh red dragon and flag symbol), the Cù-sìth (Scottish spirit dog), Cornish giants and of course Nessie.

I really hope they make the editor even more powerful and simple, basically making the game moddable.

That was my guess, kinda like how set & seth are both correct spellings for the Egyptian god.

I would love to see seldome seen mythologies such as the slavic pantheon which hasent gotten a single competent overview in gaming, The witcher touched on it but failed to fully delve into it because you arent delving into the Gods there.

I don't see many interesting or unique unita from Aztecas but would be interesting , im latino. Babilonia is great also hinduism but i doubt this last one since its a religion, same for japanese mythology great options

"Plus the Aztecs are right at the end of the Middle Ages" The time period doesn't really matter when their military tech level is behind said Egyptians and Greeks. It's not like they were on par with Late Middle Age Europeans (or the Middle East or Asia) in military technology, and were still using stone weapons while Late Middle Age Europeans were running around in full metal plate and making use of gunpowder.

@@HideyoshiKinoshita84 it's more that they are closer to the modern age than any of the others by quite a wide margin. Plus the Aztecs didn't exactly last very long.

Yeah, I started to get annoyed reading about the premium packs etc, thinking 'here we go again - cutting content from the base game to charge more for premium...' . But then I see the base game's actual cost, and suddenly I don't mind it so much.

@@peterkirby7546 you make a good point though... I would rather just pay 60 dollars for all included. Withholding Content of the game WHEN YOU FIRST RELEASE THE REMAKE. Just feels scummy. Also now I have a question; If I buy just the base game will I still be able to PVP vs with people who have the Freyr Pack and the expansions??? How is this going to work? Also then... If they keep releasing new content, What if it becomes like Moba Balance where the new ones are always really OP in order to get people to buy them until they inevitably get nerfed. Thus damaging the competative integrity of game balance.

​@@johanneskohnIn AoE II, you can play against people who have civs you dont. You just can't play the civs yourself, and can't play the campaigns.

​@tums1997 I was OK with the healer once he was made into a single unit, Hippocrates but I won't shed tears if he's gone. Will say the Norse do need better anti air unit than base but the rest just removes the uniqueness of the Civs.

Well... They somehow managed to make different civs for AoE2DE and i think they can pull it off for AoMR. From 48 civs in AoE2DE they have probably 4 - 5 bad civs and all the rest are playable

You could also add a military path for norse and a economic one for greeks. Or defense buildings, unit upgrades. There are possibilities. But I think more overlap between civilisations.

While I agree with this worry, they have done an excellent job with new nations for Age of Empires II Definitive Edition and new mechanics. Maybe the norse god will have a unique unit and building or a style of play. I hope for the best. I think they have treated all Age of Empires Definitive Editions well with post content. I hope they do maybe Babylonian pantheon for expansion 2.

I only hope that updates and expansions won't be released so rarely like in case of AoE 4.

​@@TheMrYadrianAoE4 with the now 12 mechanically different civs + 4 variants of the base civs (and more classified) Relic Entertainment, just out of SEGA's shackles, still has to maintain the postlaunch balancing acts between AoE4 and CoH3.

I hope they scratch the chinese expansion and keep the universe and expansions to the real stories of egypt, greek and norse

@@narakdk I heard that Chinese is being reworked while the 2nd DLC is upcoming so I think there's a chance for future 'culture's as long as playerbase is big enough.

@@TheMrYadrian I just don't want the Chinese expansion, so for me it does not matter they changed the fraction. I only want more from the existing universe of Egypt, Greek and Norse mythology.

Half of those pantheons can bring nothing because those civs have no mythology to speak of. What myth units would they get, pray tell? They would end up doing an Egypt or China all over again, where they just take random stuff and present it as a myth unit (white tiger, pethuchos, wadjet , anubite, terracotta warrior, war salamander - the list of made up myth units goes on and on and on). Really the only two civs that had a broad enough range of mythological creatures with specific abilities were the Greeks and the Norse. The former, frankly, had enough for two civs. No one else does.

India would be great for sure, Pheonicia, Persia, Rome, would probably be too similar to what we already have, I want to see them go further, we have the American civilizations, look at the Tupi mythology for example, it's really cool.

Don't forget babylonians or other middle eastern cultures. They'd be great too.

I doubt they would add the Indian pantheon - too many modern Hindus who would get upset. Pretty sure they got really mad whenever games like Smite tried to add in Indian/Vedic deities.

No, Actually the Name "Friday" comes from the wife of Odin= Frigg, Frigg is a godess synchronized in the interpretatio Romana as Venus. There is overlap between Freya and Frigg so its understandable that there is confusion. Also it *sounds* like it should by "Freyrs day" but that is not etymologically correct.

@@johanneskohn It is also possible that Freya and Frigg started out as the same goddess and diverged as time went on as they specialized in their specific niches

@@brunopereira6789 its possible but not likely. usually what we see is different local gods merging into one figure when a culture becomes dominant. Such as Pluton and Hades (and in the roman times, Dis Pater, Orcus and Pluto) all becoming the same. Or the various Hercules figures. The trend is more towards unification than division. Do you have an example of a god "diverging" as you say?

@@brunopereira6789 I think its much more likely that Frigg and Freya Merged rather than diverged. Or rather, Freya took on roles and attributes previously attributed to Frigg as her cult and worship was superseded by a more popular Freya worship.

@@johanneskohn I wouldn't be able to give you sources, it's just something I remember reading a while back. Either way, the way ancient religions and myths evolved is a fascinating subject!

One issue with including Indian pantheon is that unlike religions/mythologies current faction are based of that are no longer active religions (yeah there are some neo-Pagans around but they are very much a niche thing), Hinduism is still being actively practised by nearly a billion people, which makes it much more touchy subject - for example I remember some Indian religious figure or organisation getting offended by Smite (mythology themed MOBA) including some Hindu gods or something some years back.

@@HidingAllTheWay That's just a minority that was offended. Most Hindus (including me) are actually cool with Smite and would definitely be rooting for a Hindu pantheon in AoM

​@@epsilonator Yeah, but if they include a current religion in a game called mythology (the word implies it is made up) then there's got to be an outlash from some peopple. I would love to see Indians in the game, but I doubt they will take the risk.

@@HidingAllTheWay I am aware of that situation, but depending on who is in chrage they might decide that all publicity is good publicity, the controversy did not harm smite success, it boosted its popularity and the same could be true for AoM, but again it really depends on who is in charge, it could really be anyone. India like Mesoamerica already have models in age of empries games so I would be surprised if we didnt get them.

@@newname4941 no...just no. First of all Native Americans did not have a unified system of belief, so that there is an incredibly stupid generalisation. They were different peoples with different languages lifestyles etc. Second off, its not as well documented or interesting as actually formed religious beliefs of well...civilised peoples. Next to Mesoamericans or Old World peoples.

I think theres not a lot of space for lots of pantheons in AoMR due to how the game works unless they go more in an AoE2 direction which I don't think will happen.

From what I read yes. They overhauled their powers system to be on Couldowns instead.

Wouldn't Melanesian or Micronesian ancient pantheons be more suited for the game than their much younger maori relative ? The maoris are a young culture, barely more than 900 years old, while mythologies from the original AoM are all at least 3500 years old. Other polynesians culture are much older, and possess "extincts pantheons", putting them in a similar position to AoM's present pantheons.

They could just have liked his art and used him for the trailer. Oranos is a big guy for the Titans pantheon, so I don't see him being shafted.

Actually it really isn't. Egyptian mythology goes back 4000-5000 years ago. Greek goes back about 2500 years ago. Norse only goes back 1000 years. Saying they're all the same era is like saying Ancient Greece and The Industrial Revolution are the same era. So they could choose absolutely any era

@@Jimbobiscuit that is precisely correct. aom is a spinoff that focuses less on history and more on the myths of each civilization.

@Jimbobiscuit understand but you cannot compare Aztec mythology with them based on the simple fact that the entire Aztec civ did not reign more than 200 years while the Egyptian norse(scandanavia) and Greeks flourished for hell of a lot more, the least being norse. To each his own i guess but personally I find that mesopotamia and gremania/roman empire could be a way better and more interesting expansion. I mean the Aztec were from 1300ish to 1500ish that's not old or ancient and AOM is distinctive with its ancient civs, Aztec are a lot more fitting in the AoE games.
