I appreciate that you go into your reviews of fragrance unbiased. It feels like a genuine personal opinion about the fragrances you test. Thank you for that! - Jenn
It’s a shame some of your viewers just completely dismiss anything with Oud or from Guerlain. So odd! Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I agree with you about the Picasso. People who focus solely on the cost of perfume materials are ridiculous.
Thank you for watching, Sharon, and thanks so much for being a fan of my Wolfsbane! We are finally shooting a short film for it :) Cheers! Joseph Quartana Founder 💚🙏🌈⚡
I thought Oud Nude was absolutely delightful! I’m looking forward to trying it on skin and seeing how it develops. Sorry I missed the live! As always, lovely to watch you.
Hi Mr. P! Great video! I happened to receive a sample of Francesca Bianchi’s new musk scent and loved it immediately. The animatics with orris, tonka, etc. so lovely! Ordered a full bottle! Hope to catch your next live!
@@RachelKNg wow, really? Now you’re making me really excited for my discovery kit! I loved and still love Bulgari Black from the very beginning. I have bottles I hardly use as I’m scared to run out of it.
IEROFANTE is incredible. I adore it. It is so smooth and velvety. Leathery and fuel like, but both are so very pleasant, smooth and well blended. It is so wearable, a unique colder weather everyday or signature scent. Very unisex and very sensual. Also very cuddly in my opinion. I adore it both on me and on my spouse
I liked Guerlain's oud collection on the satin ribbons but less on my skin. Oud Nude is very almond sweet on me with some reminiscence of Cuir Beluga, the velvety vanillic leather. Cherry Oud is a sour cherry combined with a strong woody note. La petite Robe Noire +Oud. As for Oud Khôl: though I'm clearly not the audience for that kind of perfume (aldehydes are my nemesis), I find its roughness and darkness quite appealing. On a conceptual level. It reminded me a bit of Djedi...It's cold, leathery, smoky, metallic, and I smell an ink accord. Interesting. I discovered Quartana when it came out several years ago. The poisonous theme of the fragrances and their olfactory interpretation were quite interesting and appealing to my nose. I have to smell this new release. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be found in France.
I tried Cherry Oud and Oud Nude, loved both, especially Cherry Oud. The opening smells like a more mature and refined LPRN, and the dry-down is absolutely delicious, like a high-end dessert.
THANK YOU, Dariush, for giving our IEROFANTE such a thorough study and I appreciate your thoughtful impressions!! It is a unique one, and to your point, you don't know you need it until you try it, at least that's what we were aiming for 😄 Your Italian pronunciation is stellar, don't worry, and thank you for the invite, I'd love to come on to your esteemed show, I've been a fan for literally years now, so it's incredibly exciting for me to see you holding one of my works! You are without a doubt the most fluent and gentlemanly of any perfume reviewer on Earth. IEROFANTE is a rocket ride to Elysium, or "paradise" as the Greeks defined it, and which was, according to Homer, located on the western edge of the Earth, so we'll need to get there via rocket, 🚀🌎 "Elysium (otherwise known as the Elysian Fields) is a conception of the afterlife that developed over time and was maintained by some Greek religious and philosophical sects and cults. It was initially separated from the Greek underworld--the realm of Hades. Only mortals related to the gods and other heroes could be admitted past the river Styx. Later, the conception of who could enter was expanded to include those chosen by the gods, the righteous, and the heroic. They would remain at the Elysian Fields after death, to live a blessed and happy afterlife, and indulge in whatever enjoyment they had enjoyed in life." (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elysium) We created a short 2 minute film that imagines the experience of the initiation on the part of the Hierophant into the sect, which is unknown to this day but which was said to make the iniate "unafraid of death afterward". The film was entirely scored and arranged by Michael Zodorozny who also stars in it as both the spaceman AND Hierophant, who is an electronic musician here in NYC best known for his early 80s electro-punk band, Crash Course in Science, and their hits "Cardboard Lamb" and "Flying Turns" which recently got resusciated in popularity by music producers in Berlin techno scene. Michael used to live score experimental theatre performances in the "new wave" neon early 80s of the Pyramid nightclub in the East Village (near our studio), and so we created this film as an homage to that scene, its searing creativity, and transformative power. Here's a link to a coming documentary on the Pyramid nightclub (there's a photo of a young Michael performing at 2:21), as well as our film, IEROFANTE (be sure to turn it up!). 📽 Pyramid: pyramidclubthemovie.com/?fbclid=IwAR1HjS_MkIFx3Z96Zetq7b4els1CauFZSeuEH0ULgkhyw5DTgXxmbQ8-Pnk 📽 IEROFANTE: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hOBo3EdBphA.html I'd love to chat more about it and look forward to coming on, Dariush! Also super interested in viewer comments, I will respond to each so please don't be shy... Cheers! Joseph Quartana Founder PARFUMS QUARTANA SIX SCENTS PARFUMS
Thank you for the reviews! Interesting, how different perceptions are... I only tried them on paper yet, and regarding CHERRY OUD I agree with you. However, before even reading the official descriptions, the strongest note in OUD NUDE for me was raspberry (on musks and almond), and I found it jammy sweet, not oud-y at all. I am surprised that you don't seem to get the raspberry note in your video review. KHÔL I found astonishing, scary and dark. Brilliant. First thing I thought of were indoles, bitter white flowers and smoking carbon. I do not know those arabian woodships everyone refers to. I found OUD KHÔL the most interesting on paper. But they smell like they will all turn out quite differently on skin.
As it happens, just today I got a sample of Cherry Oud in my Guerlain order. I sprayed my sample directly on my skin and I smelled strong cherry and for sure a band-aid smell, medicinal oud to my nose. I am not an expert on oud as I only have a few perfumes that contain it but this wasn't my favorite. The dry down was pretty. I wish I could try the other two! Thank you for your video :o) Julia
What a nice presantation ! I went yesterday and tried all 3 and my favorite is Oud Kohl, Oud Nude smells great but is too almondly for me even I thought that will be the first purchased. I've spred it on those papers tester and I've woke up in the middle of the night, sniffing a strong smell and I wasn't know what because I tested a lot of parfumes and came home. So the smell makes me crazy, all the day was in my room and I didn't know from where is coming :))
Under My Skin is one of my favorite perfumes for cooler weather. I find it magical in its balance food smells with an undercurrent of carnality; warmth and connection. Unspoken Musk wasn't as complete or innovative to me. The drydown is a likeable sweet amber, but the beginning had a note that annoyed me. Not as bad as Sex and the Sea, but that same feeling of seasonings that don't go together.
Guerlain is doing strange things with their brand, they’re going away from their beautiful classic designs and perfumes and turning into just another niche brand.. lost their exclusivity 😢
Did you try Kadine and Fol Arôme? Limited editions of perfumes created around 1912 by Jacques Guerlain and beautifully transported into our days by Thierry Wasser.
They were available in all Guerlain boutiques (where I live they had like 2 bottles of each when it was released), as far as I know. Wherever you get into one ask if they still have a tester. And Paris for sure would be the best place to ask for them. I guess the bottles have been sold out by now. But I am quite sure you will be able to purchase samples on the internet too.
