This is how a review should be done. Value to user experience, not an inventory of specs. 6a is actually greater than the sum of its parts. This review actually helps someone make a buying decision. A deep dive into the specifics that shows the ux n value.

Tech enthusiasts like Juan are rare in the techtuber community... Lets show our support as much as we can for the likes of him... LG phones straight up dominated Samsung's as they got better value for both short and long term with incredible hardware with awesome software features. They were also trail blazers in smartphone tech. If they didn't leave they would have had a one year old rollable by now which Samsung is still struggling to perfect the foldable design But sadly LG were frustrated out of the phone biz. LG got their faults but techtubers contributed immensely to LGs phone biz demise...

I realized recently I had a smartphone addiction and wanted to settle on something that was an all rounder and reliable. The 6a so far has accomplished that with the amazing camera, decently small build, decent price, and plastic body for the durability. (At least when compared to glass) While I wished it had things like an SD card slot I'm happy with it and can see myself using it for a while.

Brilliant. Bought one of these 2 days ago and have just finished tweaking the setup the way I want it. That includes Nova Launcher and Swiftkey Keyboard as essentials. I've been after a Pixel for years, for all the usual reasons and although I've gotten used to the rear fingerprint scanner (on a Samsung phone) I really wanted to go back to a (small) phone that I can open without having to pick it up! Voila, enter the underglass sensor on the Pixels. Mine is working just fine. I've had few "failures." I love the "What's Playing" feature. Useful for when I don't have time to get to Shazam. Not having a dedicated "Gallery" on the phone will take some getting used to. That said, I'm looking forward to trying out the Camera. I've been "hooked" on the Google "ecosystem," even when I was with iOS, this just makes the whole thing totally seamless!

Ummm, maybe it's just me, but I am glad RU-vid creators don't feel pressured or guilted into refraining from criticizing Google services or products (not just Pixels) just because Google owns RU-vid. That's the last thing I would want a creator to consider when making a video about a Google-related product.
@SomeGadgetGuy
@SomeGadgetGuy Год назад
@@blakejackson3064 That would be fine if they weren't afraid of getting blacklisted by Samsung and Apple. We're all for criticizing. It's what makes our products better. But we also know the market leaders keep a stranglehold on the conversation, which leads to lopsided coverage and an unfair representation of smaller brands. When even Jon Rettinger gets blacklisted by Apple, we should be VERY concerned about the current climate of reviews online. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ug_ArwfWoAo.html

I traded in my Pixel 4a for the 6a. I usually jump between phone makes or even the OS trying an iPhone now and then. I like the Pixel software, features, and value enough I went back to back a-series. It might be a different sort of Pixel a series but still feels very familiar to me. It's quick, most noticeable in photo processing night mode shots The display gets brighter than my 4a outdoors which is handy. My favorite feature is the size and build it looks way better than my 4a and I was surprised it's hardly any bigger. Perfect size neither tiny nor huge. My least favorite is the battery, it is not bad, but the same as my 4a as far as run time. For me the $400 - 500 tier is where it's at. If you have an older flagship you'll be surprised how much phone you now get for that money.

It was a VERY happy discovery to see it was just a tiny bit smaller than the 5A. Absolutely need to keep A-Series in this general size.

Pretty good, you did manage to make me change my mind a bit about this phone, even though the flaws you mentionned are well known overall. This is because, as someone else already said, you did a proper job at rebiewing the device. I think it would be the best replacement by default right now if I were to switch. Or should I say, the most reasonable, because the phone I'm excited about is more than twice as expensive, and may very well be supported for less than twice the length. Yes I'm looking at you, Asus ROG phone 6. Though, your video reminds me of Asus's dedication towards showing the convenience of a capacitive sensor even beyond it's original purpose, as pair with the Zenfone 9, and I do like those sensors as much as you do. They are mature tech that works well and quickly, and I can count years since the last time I opened my notification shade using the screen. I can also attest to them being a tactile landmark, as a totally blind person. All in all, excellent work as usual, I'm looking forward to what's next!

Thoughts on this as a side phone for a power user with a V60 who wants a more compact phone? love my V60 but it's very large so wondering about this, I don't care about the 60hz either. Pro-tip for the in display, do multiple scans with the same finger, getting all sides, it'll work far better, I actually don't mind a good in display FP either.
@SomeGadgetGuy

Oh the A-Series would be a BALLER side option. The 6A is kinda overpowered for being "just a weekender" phone.

Does the pixel 6A have a more noticeable two-tone look on the white model?? I noticed on the Pixel 6 Pro, on footage the gray top area looks much more noticeable. In person, it's harder to distinguish the difference between the grayish white and the white below the camera bump. It was enough that I actually added a skin on the top part to make the two tone appearance a little more pronounced.
@SomeGadgetGuy
@SomeGadgetGuy Год назад
It's SUPER subtle gray. I like it. Just a light accent. It's a little clearer in normal light. My studio lights are blowing it out a little here.

I'm really torn right now. I'm going to be switching carriers and my att lg g8 is going to get replaced. My wife has a 5a and I'm jealous of that battery life, but at the same time the places the 6a stand out are really appealing. It might come down to the rear fingerprint sensor... Or the better speakers... Gah!

VERY well. I have the most recent iQOO and Poco phones in house right now. Tensor performs VERY well in real tasks against 8Gen1, I'd put the phone up against a Poco X4GT, F3, iQOO Neo6 pretty solid competitors. The main difference in costs, especially around India, you're paying higher import fees but getting YEARS more promised software support than Xiaomi or BBK labels. Around $100 more means you should get three or four MORE years of security and bug fixes.

I turned off my smooth display 120 Hz feature on my Pixel 6 pro once, just out of curiosity. And I forgot to put it back. And I didn't notice the difference at all. I actually had to check. For me anyways, the difference is not perceptible. Unless I'm literally making a point to test scrolling as fast as I possibly can or using a UFO test.
@SomeGadgetGuy
@SomeGadgetGuy Год назад
Yeah, I'm not impressed with this idea of 120Hz being the deciding factor on a phone purchase. It's useful in some kind of situations, I think it looks great on the few games that can sustain higher frame rates, but it's SUCH a subtle difference in general UI use and navigation.

I ordered a 6a because it has the best overall value at the price. If you want performance, not as huge of a screen, long term software support, faster updates and not paying $1000 this is the right phone. Most complain about 60 hertz or wireless charging, but to me those don’t matter if the phone works well. I got mine in that sharp white color. It all comes down to priorities and for me the long term support and performance is why I got it. If you do the math, you are paying less than $100 a year for flagship level performance. That will last for years to come.

I'm still using a LG G8. When I'm ready for a new one, it won't be another Samsung. The S21 updates broke me. I'm so tired of Samsung killing the last model to make you buy the new one. I may look into the Pixel series, if they can get the hardware and software bugs fixed
