The opening for the video describes perfectly how I felt about this class before I realized I could put 3 traps in one place, use double guns, summon 3 guild members, stack up 25 might, 25 poison, a bit of bleeding, crippling, immobilization, and bring my critical hit chance to almost 100% using specializations. Then, stand there and solo anything I happen to come across with almost 2k dps when my level is capped by 10.
love the guides man! they make learning the game alot easier. coming from WoW ive fully leaned into GW2 and its been daunting but such a breath of fresh air.
Very nice video. I would like to add, that if players owns Secrets of the Obscure, you always gets access to axe main hand, which functions as range weapon (900) ranged. Can be paired with pistol/dagger off hand. And button 3 on axe, allows for great burst with 6 stacks of swirling axes. Great for open world content as well.
I've had this game in my backlog for months and could never truly decide on a profession forever!! Thanks to this video I think I finally made my choice to go thief, thank you so much!
Without looking it up, I’m going to say I thought the new weapon availability was only going to be interchangeable between elite specs. Meaning, the daredevil could use a rifle or the untamed could use a staff. I didn’t realize that core specs while leveling allowed you the use of these weapons too. If that’s the case than I’m even more excited about the expansion!
@@CaffeinatedDad That would be awesome. I enjoy the leveling process in any MMO I play and this would bring a new depth and dimension to it for me. I’m most excited about the idea of a “streamlined” sky scale though, because I’ve never been able to get the griffin or sky scale and I want one soooo bad lol. Just to take some of the pain out of traversing heart of thorns and end of dragons maps lol.
i played the base game with Thief and liked, but it's hard to master haha, buyed the expansions and planning to go back to my thief and try The Specter, loved the shadow things hahaha. Now i'm doing the expansions with my ranger and don't have much problems with the elites in the 1° expansion.
How to thief: Select build from metabattle or guildjen (guildjen tends to be better). Disregard runes. Buy dolyak runes. Actually survive. ...and spam Headshot when you see a break bar.
I've been wanting to play Daredevil because melee staff combat is exactly the playstyle I've been wanting in an rpg and its surprisong how few do it well, or even at all...but boy is there a learning curve...so squishy for me coming from a Firebrand main...really having to learn the mechanics, positioning, and survival tactica well cause i have died A LOT 😅
@@CaffeinatedDadso it is perfect fir all downstate mains 😂 I have not notice thief to be weak in raids strikes and HoT metas. Then again my favored class is Tempest.
This video should have covered Initiative management since this will be the main issue new players will have a hard time understanding. In addition, positioning is very important as well as proper use of shadowstep abilities. Basically, a guide should answer "How to play as Thief?" instead of "What is a Thief?"
here's an initiative management guide for you: 1. use an initiative skill (every weapon skill aside from auto-attack) 2. look at how much initiative it used 3. look at how much initiative is left 4. use another initiative skill (or the same one, thief is dope like that) 5. repeat steps 2-3 6. repeat steps 1-5 now you're managing initiative like a pro! good job!
Yes, I of course could have gone into a lengthy discussion about initiative management, but I gave what tips players needed to get started not master. And honestly my best teaching advice is through experiencing hands on practice!
great video thank you can i ask why thiefs dodge is different than others ? it seems like thief goes into a brief stealth as animation and a sound (whooosh) comes out is thief dodge has a difference or is it just astetic
Yes, when this video was made the SoTO expansion was not yet released. Very short into the SoTO story like first 20mins, you unlock "Weapon Mastery" just by talking to a guy, not an actual mastery. This is account wide, and makes it so now, at level 1 any core profession or elite spec of said core profession can now use all elite specialization weapons. So Thief now gets access to staff/rifle/scepter regardless of spec. Well now at the time I am answering it is live, all profs also just got access to a brand new weapon, Thief got ranged main hand axe. These brand new weps require many chapters of SoTO to be completed to unlock it, unless you WvW, the WvW sells the artifact you need to unlock the weapon achieve to get access to 1 new wep type on all profs.
