Usual beginner guides > Other channels: So you are starting out and you are new to STO. Grab a T6 Ship from 3 years ago that was only available through a limited time event and you are good. I last played in 2011 and found STO to be quite difficult to re-learn, but this video has helped a lot!

I’ve been playing for 2 years. I have 5 level 65 toons. I came back to this because I feel like either I forgot or missed something. So back to the basics!

Great video, been playing for awhile and still learned something new. Dragging the item into the search bar at the exchange is definitely a nice QOL.

I always like proximity torpedoes on my Bridge Tactical Station in the beginning as it’s helpful for AOE damage in dealing with early combat encounters. Science Officer I or Hazard Emitters on the Science Station and Engineering Team I for Engineering helps as well for early ship builds.

Thanks for the guides. Kinda newish to STO. Played it a while ago but never in depth and long enough. Now wanna dig into it. And it's a bit overwhelming compared to other MMOs. Not new to MMOs but STO isn't the easiest to get through, when you are new and without a clue. But i like it, so wanted to get into it.

The transwarp is a newer thing. I played a bit during lockdown and it was not a thing for all players. It had sped up the game so much. When you are in higher tier ships the auto navigator is not a big deal but in your starter ship it is just awful. Glad they added that for everyone.

Most important is you don’t have to spend money just be patient there’s events constantly do the daily logins get that prize but continue and get the bonus dil and exchange that for dil just bank it and there’s a yearly compagin do that and you can get your t6 ships even throughout the year can earn a experimental upgrade token for your t6 and get Phoenix upgrades to upgrade your fave or the best ship and toon gear it just takes patience but don’t have to spend a dime

This is good beginner info but I've run into an issue that I think is probably a huge barrier for a lot of new players: I finished my level grind and now have no idea what i should be doing. A lot of the storyline missions available to me are obviously meant for someone with a better understanding of gear and loadouts because I get my ass handed to me repeatedly on Normal, both space and ground. This was not the case for my entire level grind and nothing appears to be pointing me towards what I should be doing.

Literally my favourite game of all time; I will always play this game for a lifetime I don’t say this to many games if any to be honest

Good channel but I unfortunately play on the version on Xbox 1 and can't use a fair share of these but of what I could use I loved the simple phaser build for a federation player

I stopped playing STO in 2018 because I got tired of the grind, but I do hope they find another publisher/distributor for this game since Perfect World Entertainment (aka ARC) are terrible at managing games and encourage spending RL money (since all of their games are p2w). I would say this is an exception because the Devs (cryptic studios) didn't want to make it a 100% p2w game, hence why there is even a grind. for those that have no idea what I am talking about: the cash shop currency is called Zen because of PWE's involvement in the game, Cryptic has no involvement in the cash shop whatsoever... hence why I'm hoping they ditch PWE at some point.

Also set your ground officers to your actual bridge offers or the game will just give you 3 random NPC security officers for ground maps who aren't that great.

So, I assme the only way to properly organize abilites on the task bars (trays) is to drag them from the menu. So far as I can tell I don't have the ability to move them ON the bar once they're there. One other thing. The "Lock" only prehibits you from dragging NEW abilities from the menu to the Task Bar. - which seems like a non-issue for most players.

I know this is a relatively old video, but after playing STO between 2010 and 2014 casually, I fell off the map so to speak. Now upon returning in 2024 to my old character, I'm utterly lost, and half of the game feels like it speaks to me in klingon without a translator. I can't find anything, I don't get what half of the stuff is that is flashing on my screen, and even the stuff that is familiar, I have like 10 years old memories to rely on in the hopes that they still might work the same as I half remember them :D

A note about Mission Transwarp; for Romulan characters, this feature is disabled for the entire Romulan-specific story. At some point, you will choose which side (Fed or KDF) that you want to ally with. Once you make that choice, then Mission Transwarp becomes available. Right-click to drag abilities around the trays. If you left-click, it will activate the ability. Not a big deal unless you are about to join into Group content. You will need to ask permission/use a different button to beam up from Starfleet Academy. When you click the button, it will give you an option to beam to Spacedock, beam to Sol System or beam to Sector Space, just outside of the Sol System. This is a little deeper, but in terms of starting Bridge Officer skills, I would suggest training in Beam Overload (tactical), Emergency Power to Weapons (engineering), and Hazard Emitters (science). It really rubs me the wrong way that you basically start with three nearly useless (at low level) skills. This one is probably better for another video, but as soon as I complete the tutorial and the next episode mission, I replace the default skills. You need the Energy Credits and Expertise from that mission to pay for it all. MCStu showed you where the Bridge Officer trainer is at 11:00.

Basically a good review... helpful for a newer or potential new player. However..... very simply, what happens when you lose a ship as a newer player? What is the cost for replacement? Pay $$$ or is it free up to a certain point (tier?)

I honestly ranted about this game when I first started playing it because it has lots of hidden features and explanations that just don’t open up until later. I’ve been playing it a while now and also spent quite a bit on it… yet it still draws me in daily (if only for the dailies needed for the events). Yeah, this game’s worst feature is it drip feeds info making it look lame at the beginning. It should show show you in a big ship with lots of good consoles and then say “Several years earlier” and then start you leaving the Academy.

So just to make sure because i finished the starting thing and when i was talking to Quinn there were a few mission givers and I grabbed them around him and now im not sure what order i should be doing things. So on the mission tab i want to just be looking at the list on the left and then just working my way from top to bottom going through them one at a time right?

Just started out, level 3 1st toon and I am more confused now than I was before.

A returning player guide would be useful. Jumped on after 8yrs to find I'm dying a lot and I only have one ship so can't progress unless I start a new character. As there's so many different things to do it's hard to know where to start

The gearing system makes my head dizzy with all the stats, how do I know what is good?

Regarding ship / ground gear (weapons etc) is it ever worth keeping white or green items or should I be counting those as trash and only keeping blue + items? Starting to fill up Inventory and bank very quickly with lots of white / green 'hmmm maybe I might use it on ...' items (hoarder detected)

Theres one question that chaps my ass and i don’t think I’ve ever properly gleaned the answer through my fault (most likely) or maybe the info was sparse but my question is: Does it matter which order you stack your beam banks, arrays, omnis, torpedos, cannons or mines? I put my energy weapons on the right of the ship layout and projectiles on the left. I’m not sure if thats optimal energy consumption or if it should be the other way around..

Couldnt even get through the tutorial, the ship controls are beyond jank with a mouse and keyboard where the simple act of turning your starter ship to use broadside technique would often lead to you flying off away from the target and there not being an autofire for launching photons was far to over complex. Honestly this game feels like it would be much better if it had actual controller support for PC.

You are killing new players with this. Noobs can be lvl65 in no time my way and be OP for free. Im putting out my 3 day elite guild so it draws new players not make them hate the game.

You have two slots with no officers, how do you get those slots?
