Poly Haven is a large library with over 1,000 high-quality 3D assets that include HDRIs, 3D models and material textures. The assets on Poly Haven are free and come with a CC0 license. Now there is an addon to bring the Poly Haven assets right into Blender using Blender's Asset Browser. It's called the Poly Haven Asset Browser plugin and I'll show you exactly how it works in this review and tutorial.
Imagine having the 1,000 free assets from Poly Haven right inside of Blender. We can drag and drop the objects, materials and HDRIs into our scene effortlessly. The setup is easy. We just have to add a library path in for our asset browser in Blender's User Preferences. Then we can fetch all of the Poly Haven assets and tell the add-on how often we want to have the library updated.

I have used the Poly HDRI assets for probably years and they have figured in my most important designs. I don't mind paying for the addon since the asset browser is so slick. It's the one thing about Blender that has sucked in the past the most, the lack of a material library and having to download or set up each material or background manually.

I’ve just recently got this add on and it is great and all works as you explained. The one quite big thing that I’m disappointed with is that everything is only in the 1k version, I thought that you would get an option on what you wanted but I didn’t find that out until I bought it.

Thanks for this tutorial, I have been supporting Polyhaven for a long time, its nice to see these improvements. I also developed a polyhaven models import for Houdini which is on my RU-vid channel, however its not as good as this. :)

I have a error code with python in which I can't fetch the assets when I click the "fetch assets" button, Whenever I do It comes up with a error code in which it states "key polyhavenassets not found" if you could tell me a fix it would be much appreciated.

Having problems? No seeing "fetch" button? Make sure you asset folder is named exactly "Poly Haven". You can go to your asset library directories in preferences and rename it.

Does this addon allow you to store the assets on a hard drive that's not your main drive as well?

Looks like anyone having this issue won't have an answer. I really wanted to try it before purchasing to see how it worked. It's been more than 1 month, doesn't matter how well I follow instructions it gaves me the exact same errors. Somehow it doesn't connect to Poly Haven. Anyone having this issue will get the same answers "Follow instructions" ...well, are we missing somehting?!

Hi! Select the object, press F3 for the search menu and search for “make instance real”. Run that and then you should be able to.

I paid my $30 and used it earlier this year, but then I stepped away from Blender for a few months. Came back, updated to 3.6, and now I cannot find the FETCH ASSETS button. The addon says all is good with the path. I disabled ALL my other addons, even restarted, and still no button.

Only 3,5 gb ? How come? I know the HDRIs are very big images to say at least and they have tons of them.

It was recently brought to my attention that it only downloads the 1k sized HDRIs…which I understand saves space but would rarely be what you’d want to use. So that sucks but probably explains it.

@@Brandon-3D So how to make an HDRI library with their stuff at 4k at least. Do I need to mark each of them as asset in a Blend file named HDRIs and saved it in an library path location that you added in the preferences ? and having all those asset in the assets browser ( 3gb or more) will slow down Blender ''?

I did everything like you said but I have no assets.... They were all downloaded and are in my pc, the directory is correct, but nothing shows up for me to drag and drop... Blender as been updated and still nothing... I have all the categories but no assets! Help, any ideas?

I've purchased, downloaded and followed all the steps in this video. However, even after restarting my blender there are no assets on my library, All of the categories have been added but when i click on each category no assets show up in the display panel.

The only difference i have found is under the : Add ons tab in preferences, my import-export: Poly Haven Assets is version 1.0.4 and under the preferences tab it gives me two tick box slection obtions which state: [] Use alternative CND [] Disable SSL Verification

@yoshi I am having the same issue, I downloaded the textures and I have categories, but No images are showing up . They are in the directory folder, but no thumbnails in the asset browser. Restarted,, uninstalled and reinstalled,,, Am on Blender 3.3,, no idea what to do :(

you got a point there, especially when you don't really need all these assets that are downloaded to your drive. And you want others that you can't find in poly haven. But someone that is using (or have used in the past) polyhaven assets, can see it as a support gesture to the free (in most cases good quality) assets they are giving away all these years. I know there is a patreon model running too, but I guess instead of patreon you can pay one time for the add on (that it is an extra 'leisure'). At least this is how I see it.

As fast to install as to uninstall. Really too long to load, I am much faster with the add in my blend file where I place my materials. For assets, it's not terrible either, sometimes it works sometimes not.
