I found down here in Alabama the clippings just stay in place, don't decompose, and just looks bad. I ended up taking an EGO power bristle brook to the lawn and got most of the old material out. It kind of worked as a detatcher, but my back did not enjoy that one bit. Your video about scalping the lawn in spring would have been so helpful a few years ago. I assumed Bermuda was like the grass we had in Wisconsin and was afraid to cut it less than 3 inches As such my lawn looked awful with dead brown patches and long runners everywhere. I just tried it this spring since I noticed a couple neighbors who cut there's short had much better looking lawns. All my neighbors and myself are mostly amateur first time home buyers. You'd have a good chuckle walking through our neighborhood and seeing what we've done to our poor Bermuda lawns over the past few years. Keep making informative videos, there's just some knowledge that comes with experience and a lot of people keep that information to themselves not knowing how valuable it is to others.
Thank you for the video. FYI --- Gas mowers will start to deplete and disappear as the Electric mowers are becoming part of the norm. I purchased a Cal Trimmer as my last mower to be used well into my retirement as I am not a fan for electric mowers and there is NO electric reel mowers yet.
This is some wonderful content! It would really help if you post some content about how you maintain the mower & is there some place you recommend for power reel mower service in the DFW area?
From what I have read, the Fiskars reels mower is rated as one of the better push reel mowers for Zoysia grass. I don't have Zoysia in my lawn, but I have read that Zoysia should be mowed between one and one half inches and two and one half inches in height. If you are mowing at a height less than one and one half inches, that could be part of the issue you are having. Also, from your other comments, you may need to backlap and adjust the reel to bedknife spacing. The reel should be adjusted to where it just clears the bedknife without touching, but close enough that when you place a sheet of paper it cuts the paper.
