I've noticed that Robot mowers aren't good for St Augustine grass. The blades seem to split and lead to disease.

Listening to this, makes me want to run out and start my own lawn care company - built strictly on robotic mowing. All I would need is a string trimmer and a blower. hmmm. Interesting.

I've been interested in building one just for fun. The positioning is the hard part. GPS isn't nearly accurate enough. I don't know if WiFi triangulation or some other radio triangulation could work. Proximity sensor is fine, but you'd have to run the line, at least the first time. You could manually enter cartesian coords but any wheel spin would make it inaccurate.

We have a period of dormancy for St. Augustine here in the northern side of the Houston, Tx area... should we step down our mowing from 4 to 3? when we head into November/December if the St Augustine looks like it's going to go into dormancy? And Is Atrazine the only "winter" post emergent safe for St Augustine?

I would not change the mowing height in the fall. In spring if you have some tips that died from winter winds, that would be the time to take it down one notch just to get it started. And Atrazine is the cheapest weed control for SA when it's dormant. I'm sure there are others that can be used, I am just not familiar.
