My unscientific thoughts on these so far is that the 5th gen sounds identical to the Signature Series in XLR. But 'both' the 5th and the Signature Series sound different from the 4th gen. And both the 5th gen and Signature Series sound quite a bit closer to the RODE NT1A. But hard to tell without testing this in person and only via RU-vid. I do think the pricepoint is a no-brainer though but I can't help but feel from a very subjective point of view that the 4th gen sounds more....what's the word....a bit more full..a bit more pleasant. But maybe they're all the same? But I swear they sound different.

I'm really surprised how good this one sounds. I just bought an MXL CR-89 that is super flattering on my particular voice but this rode is $60 cheaper NEW than the MXL used?!? This Rode is a steal for the price!!

I bought the NT1A and the NT1 4th gen…used both for years, and paid around $270 for 4th gen and $240 for the NT1A…and I’m saying all that to say $150 for this mic is 100% a steal, literally a no brainer and it’s new plus 32 bit float recording….About to buy this one as well .

Am I a jerk because I think this is a more significant iteration than the sm7db? Losing a feature and dropping the price subjectively impacts me more than adding a cloudlifter that I’m “supposed” to buy anyway.

I finally got an original non logo nt1 ceramic finish back in the collection. With the 90 some odd other mics in the locker… this mic still sounds great and quiet(er) than just about everything else.

Rode has changed the frequency response graph on the 4th gen and it matches with the new ones

I did hear resonance when the microphone was hit, this wasn’t the case with the old NT1 4th gen, they did compromise on the build quality with both the 5th gen and the SS, it is very sad. Also, the 4th gen sounds so neutral and uncoloured when compared to the new ones, they did change the sound and its not a welcome addition, however the signature series somehow sounds a bit tamer than the 5th gen imo. The Lauten Audio and King Bee II actually sound better than the SS whereas the 4th gen used to be a tough competitor due to its flat sound signature, definitely a disappointment

I was surprised how identical the LCT 240 sounded to the SS! I would actually think about getting that instead, if it came with a shockmount, but it doesn't, and lord knows how much they would charge for that! But I'll pass. I bought a UT Twin87 for Xmas, and it totally blows the SS out of the water!

To be honest I’m a little disappointed by this mic. I have the fourth generation and loved it for its neutral tone and fairly smooth high end (as far as budget condensers go). This one is significantly brighter but much harsher. I would honestly pick the Lewitt 440 and put take a couple db off the treble/air over the NT1 SS.
@flexiland6741
@flexiland6741 4 месяца назад
Had the same idea. But in real world (I compared takes made with both with the same takes made with both mikes), the 5th NT1 is way easier to tame and deal with, than the LCT440 which develops an annoying ringing in the high mids with loud singing (a quirk shared by the OC16, another Austrian-developed mike, maybe there's a story there..)

Is it better than sm57, I have untreated room and wanna record vocal and acoustic guitar 😺? I have ssl2, but for me 700$ in my country for sm7db is too much, dats why I think about sm57 or rode nt1 signature from china, I have at2020, but it sux for me, also there’s se8 / se7 but idk

@@AudioHotline That's the way it happens. We went to a Crew event 4-6 hours away from home for my son who was in college. At the hotel, a tabby cat the staff had been taking care of (but not supposed to) ran into the hotel and jumped on the couch like she owned it. At that point, I knew I was taking her home. My 12-year old black cat Shadow (RIP) was not happy and the other tabby we had just gotten (about the same age according to the vets...just under 1 year old) was happy to have a playmate. That was over 7 years ago and both tabbies are living their best lives

@@AudioHotline Oh, I have a Rode NT1 4th gen (amongst about 30+ other mics) and that damn blue NT1 SS is telling me to take her home too. I KNOW I shouldn't since it's practically the same mic, but it won't...stop...talking...to...me!

Rode NT1 King of the Budget Mics again?
@AudioHotline
@AudioHotline 9 месяцев назад
I think a lot of people would agree with that! With accessories, build, and price all being really good, it's pretty hard to beat the NT1-SS. Some people may prefer the sound of the King Bee II at this price. I think they are both really great options!
@enriquekahn9405

@@AudioHotline I use the OG KB and I wouldn't trade it for anything short of one of my "dream mics" but if I was buying new right now I think I would actually take the Rode, just on the basis of how heavy and ugly the KB II is. Both mics check all my marks for stuff I'd look for in a budget mic and the Rode seems to be a lot easier to get a good boom arm for.

Only the USB connection has the 32-bit float? what about the XLR connection? thanks
@AudioHotline
@AudioHotline 7 месяцев назад
An XLR connection’s quality is going to be determined by the device it’s plugged into. XLR is analog so it’s simply sending the sound to the interface, the interface then turns the sound into a digital signal that your computer can understand. The device that does this in a USB mic or an audio interface is called an ADC, Analog-to-Digital Convertor. The Rode NT1 5th gen has an ADC built into the USB connection (all USB mics do), so if you have an XLR Audio Interface that can do 32 bit float, like the Motu M2, Zoom UAC-232, or a digital recorder like the TASCAM X6 or Zoom F3 (there are quite a few other devices that can supply 32 bit float) then yes, you would be able to record 32 bit with the Rode NT1 5th gen, as well as any other microphone you plug into that 32 bit audio interface. It sometimes can be hard to describe this over text, hopefully I did an alright job! Haha

@@iguessme I try my best to reply to any comment I can! For me, I would pick the NT1 4th gen… that might just be out of comfort though. When I was doing a lot of audio and music recordings on a lower budget, I used the NT1 4th gen sooo much that I am just really comfortable with it and can get the sound I want out of it. I have only heard the X2 in reviews, I haven’t tried it yet (plan to soon) so take my opinion with a grain of salt. Maybe I will love it when I try it!
