You ladies hit upon an important point. Oliver Anthony was a factory worker making $14.50/hr in a paper mill; which is NOT a nice place to work. The very BEST thing about this song and what I feel this artist is most proud of is what we all got to watch here after you guys listened to it. The wonderful dialogue that follows and an overwhelming connection most non-eletists of our society have to this song. This recognition of truth is what we all have in common. There is some hope that MOST of America regardless of race, identity, political affiliation, etc do, in fact, have much more in common than we realize sometimes. I'm here in central PA and back in 98 I fell and scattered my leg. Had to use assistance because my uncle used the insurance money I gave him for insurance, shortened version. The worse part was the fit the people at the welfare office through because they wanted me to go on disability, now I'm trying to figure out what to do with my life because I know I won't get help now if I need it. I know it will work out so I'm not really worried just frustrated.

The funny thing is that conservatives have tried to hijack this song and liberals have tried to trash this song, but the song is condemning politicians in general, from both sides of the aisle. As a songwriter myself, I understand how he is trying to communicate a message about how he views the world around him but sometimes the message you are trying to communicate is misconstrued. In a message to fans he said the government takes dependent and needy people and makes them even more dependent and needy. That is a resonator guitar. Our son's taxes went up more than 25% and one of his daughters had to sit in the floor on the bus so he drives her and the other daughter's bus comes 30 minutes after 1st period starts so he has to dive her so she does not miss 1st period everyday. It is cheaper to buy junk food than nutritious food so people choose quantity over quality.

It’s directed at ALL rich politicians- party affiliation not withstanding. If you haven’t already, check out more of his story. His real name is Chris. Oliver was his grandads name and he chose to use it to honor him. Also look up another vid- He did a live event at a local farmers market like 3-4 days after the song dropped. The attitude of people on welfare (AND I AM ON IT MYSELF) needs to change. Most people on EBT/Medicaid, have the attitude of "Cool! I get stuff for free!" That burns me up. You don't get it for free! Someone else has paid for it *FOR YOU*. I have seen a woman use an EBT card to buy shrimp and lobster. She was laughing about spending her entire EBT budget for the month on Shrimp and Lobster. I've seen another woman try to buy dog food with her EBT card and when she couldn't she got mad and said "Well, I just buy steak to feed him then!" And she did... she bought 3 large trays of T-bone steaks for her dog! This isn't right. EBT needs some reform and I personally think it should come with mandatory nutrition counseling. In the state I live in, 45% of EBT funds are spent on junk food. In the U.S. 30-50% of EBT funds are spent on junk food. That's the real problem IMHO... LOVED your reaction ladies!!!

Hello ladies, just found your channel today. Glad to hear your comments on this video. I started working when I was about 13 as well in a family business. My step dad kicked me out when I was 18 because I was dating the wrong person by his standards. Turned out he was right but I didn't see it at the time. When I was married to my first wife we were on welfare and it sucked. I joined the military just to get off of welfare. But the things I saw while in welfare pissed me off. People cheat the system constantly and get away with it. On a side note I heard y'all say that you're going to see Home Free in concert. I saw them last year in concert, you will not be disappointed. When Tim aka "balls drop", hits those serious bass notes in person it is unreal. Love the reactions keep up the good work.

I totally hear you on the potholes here in Colo. What is the State spending our money on! Certainly not fixing the potholes. Probably buying pot! Oliver doesn't want to be a singing superstar. He turned down an eight million dollar recording deal. He just wants to have a simple life, farming his land, and write songs and sing on videos. He also got sober a month before he did this song and now when he performs live he reads a chapter out of the Bible, Pslams 37 I believe, to the crowd, and the crowd loves it!

It's a universal problem, taxes. There's a fine line between those who can't work and those that won't work. I've been in employment since I was 16... Never been out of work. I'm still dipping my overdraft every month. Issues are similar in the UK, so this resonates. We do have National INSURANCE, in addition to our PAYE, which is meant to pay for our NHS.

speaking of taxes i once worked christmas day one year for my job and the taxes equaled how much i made for that time and a half holiday pay

I was on food stamps for 1 month when I was sleeping on a park bench at night in Philly. 1 month. I made connections, got a job, worked it full-time from the bench in the park as my base, found a room, got paid from work, rented a room in a house, cancelled my EBT card.

The establishment has dumbed down and intimidated the people for so long that it has conditioned people into being afraid to speak. I love it that people are waking up.

Lady from Texas here. It's a Gretsch Bobtail Resonator guitar also called a dobro. Just my opinion but I think Fox made fools of themselves by using the song before the debate. The man is singing about the very people who were on that stage and frankly, the corporate media who are part of that whole DC bubble. That's why his line about how they don't think we know but we do is SO accurate. There's some important lines I think you missed. The one about "miners" and "minors." Their putting coal miners out of work in the name of climate change while covering up for all the politicians and rich men who went to Epstein island. And the one about young men putting themselves 6 feet underground. I think he's not only talking about the number of teen suicides but also the veterans who are suffering, many of them homeless, and committing suicide because the government, especially the Veterans Administration, have just cast them aside and totally failing them.
