Dave , I think this review is great as always don’t listen to the haters… they should buy them themselves and review them if they want to complain about everything and if they’re so perfect in their knowledge base…. You are a great reviewer one of the best and I watch them all… thanks for a great review of a great product…keep up the great work!!!
The S9C really benefits with inch footers underneath. Runs cooler when air can circulate. I have the S9C, X7PRO, X8 eighteenth anniversary edition, using FPGA. Then said what the hell, bought the PS for the X8. Turned into an Aune junkie.🎉
I am wondering what you paired it with as a source and how you connected it given it had no digital inputs and my main source is hdmi 2.1 through my pc graphics card.
giza, I'm new to audiophile and I also like jpop, could you recommend me some open-back anime and jpop headphones? If possible, have it priced at $150 or less. Sorry for my English
Very interesting amp. I am looking for a replacement to my 10 year old AURALiC Taurus MkII class A HA which I use to drive my Focal Stellia's any thoughts on how the S17 would perform?
Mine reaches 69°C in class A (and switches over to class AB) every time I use it. Is there a way to keep the temperature under control? So longer listening sessions would be possible in class A. 🤔
Contact Aune, they are aware of this issue and they can repair it for you. I might get a S17pro myself but if it goes into protection mode i'll have to return it straight away. I am not sure, but i hope that the new batches have these issues fixed.
I've heard the r2r volume knob sometimes does close to nothing for one or two clicks and then jumps massively on the third (I assume it changes ladders when that happens). Many people think the volume knob on this is sometimes unusable. Did you find that to be the case?
It does jump a little, and it is a little annoying, but not enough to be a big issue, really. But I think it's actually near the top end of the volume around 50 or 55. ( I'm not in front of it at the moment to check). Thanks for checking out the review!
@@ThePupil I'm unsure if that has been fully diagnosed. A lot of us suspect quality control of thermal paste but nothing has been confirmed. My unit is fine but I don't know if there is all the newer ones are fine or not.
I'm sorry, I hope I don't offend but I really hate reviews that are done like these. There's basically no useful information in the first half of the video where you just read off a spec sheet of the features this amp has... is this just suppose to be an advertisement? Why bother with beauty shots of the unit with no additional info? Why not at least show the inside of the amp? Why not talk about the build or how to R2R volume knob feels? You mention the amp gets hot, especially in 100ma mode... How hot? Hotter then other class A amps? Hot enough that you want to avoid touching it? Does the knob also get hot or just the body? What's the ambient temp of your room? Best under 1000... compared to what? Topping A70pro? A90D? Cayin iHA-6? Jot2? If better, better by how much? How do you make a statement like that without comparing it with any other amp? Just what amps have you compared it extensively with to be confident in making that statement? Tonal and technical qualities... 0 comparison to any other headphone amp. And not the best you've heard? So what did you hear that was better? Better in what way? How much more expensive was it? I've always felt that Zeos did the worst reviews for audio gear since he's basically just a hype man... but this to me is just worse, since it's basically just an advert.
Great points, I would have taken them as constructive feedback if it was my channel. I’ve been observing many “Audiophile reviewer” over the years here on RU-vid and can summarize that none of them are close to good enough. I’m curious to hear your thoughts (I’m currently developing some unique concepts for my channel). Any reviewer and evaluation method you have experienced that works well and that you find useful? Thanks in advance
@@hireality I like Gizaudio's Timmy and Super* Reviews for IEMs. I like The Headphone Show and Joshua Valour's style-videos, although I don't necessarily trust their opinions. I dislike Zeos videos, but he's nice if you want confirmation bias for stuff you already like. I don't really follow any particular channel for source reviews. For me at least, the most useful part of a review is comparing it to similarily priced or similar sounding gear. Measurements also lend credibility, although not to an objectivist extreme like ASR. I like reviewers are good at subjectively describing the overall sound profile in simple layman terms using analogies to non-audio concepts. I hate when reviews throw out a bunch of audiophile terms without comparing to similar products to contextualize it.
Was the gear gifted from the vendor or manufacturer? Reviewers read and watch other reviews first, that's how the consensus is made and maintained. You can't take things with a grain of salt, instead you need an oversized salt lick. Saying anything derogatory will lose you any further reviews from manufacturers or vendors. It's parroting for politics. Some are honest lite, allowing you to listen between the lines about shortcomings. Being older myself, not many have my taste in music. What really sizzles me off. Hardly a mention of associated gear used.
@@aRc11-11 thank you for more excellent points and feedback in addition to the original commentator’s. If I ever become an audio reviewer (if I ever get the time to implement it) I need you to criticize and grill me constantly. Gizaudio, these comments should come across like gold for you for improving your reviewing method and your channel.
R2R volume is a ladder of 'transistors'? Probably a slip of the tongue on your part, but surely you mean 'resistors'? Also you don't start with a disclaimer (how you got the device, how your agreement is with Aune about reviewing it, if you are paid for the review etc.). No offence, but I agree with others here: Your 'review' sounds more like an advert or a paid influencer talking and you seem not upfront and transparent about it either.
Thanks for your honesty and for the correction! I really do appreciate you taking the time to watch and for the thoughtful input. These types of comments are what push me to get better. Thank you!
I know that reviewers aren't too thrilled reviewing bad products cause if they say something bad about it they jeopardize their relationship with the test sample provider. If they recommend a bad product they put their reputation on the line. The S17 pro is that kind of product that I would avoid reviewing. A bad class-A implementation, done just to push the numbers. The review itself is extremely vague cause the reviewer has no understanding of what the unit does differently and why is it bad or good. Going through the product page, I found out that the current modes are actually the Iq which is the JFET current draw when it's idle - no load and no input signal. WTF would you need to cook the components when they're idle?! - Just makes no sense. What is the high current mode good for if it's usable for only a short period of time before the overheating protection kicks in and halves the current!?
You do realise class A is all the power all the time regardless of input signal right? Unit temps aside, what makes you think this is a bad class A implementation?
