NEW! Refurbished M1 Garands from RTI vs CMP M1 Garands

Royal Tiger Imports (RTI) just released their M1 Garands for the first time. These M1 Garands are comparable to the Special grades of M1 Garands from the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP). So in this video, I show you an in depth comparison on how these two refurbished M1 Garands measure up.
❗️UPDATE: 02/12/2023- All stores are open for in person visits. After visiting the CMP South Store and the Talladega Marksmanship park recently, many of the lower grade Garands we saw were Phillipine returns. The wood and metal on these are in poor to fair condition. It seemed as if few are in good or better condition, as far as the rack and field grades we saw. The RTI Garands may be just as comparable in condition to these Phillipine returns.
❗️UPDATE: 04/23/2023: RTI now offers a refurbished M1 Garand with a Criterion barrel. Their listed price is $1,799.

I think the CMP is the way to go. Yeah, it's a bit time consuming, but well worth it. I got a 43 Springfield with a 46 barrel and all original parts. Plus you get an amazing hard case, a clip, and it gets shipped right to your house. I even requested a WWII Springfield manufacture and they granted it at no cost.

I got an M1 CMP this year. A bucket list rifle for me. I wish I would have had the money for more as they ran out of service grade about a week after my order was processed. That’s ok because I did the sticky note deal “WW2 good barrel “ The rifle I received was SA 6/42 with an old wood stock SN 1,3XX,XXX, barrel was excellent. Couldn’t be happier with the old girl. I bought a CMP sourced Garand 5 years back from an older gentleman who had the hobby of ordering and tinkering with CMP Garands. The M1 metal had been dropped into a nice, smooth unblemished modern replacement stock which had been very lightly stained and properly oiled ON THE EXTERIOR. Sure looked nice! I'd told the elderly fellow I wanted a SHOOTER with a good barrel, in spec gas system and bolt, a good tight lockup. That I was not a collector, did not care about "all original & matching" (why bother when they're selling metal stamp kits on ebay to fake that for virtually EVERY rifle of interest to USA people? And even a range of spray paints to fake the different metal finishes?!). So, for $675 I got a Garand this old fellow assured me was functional, he'd fired one 8 round clip through it and it ran, ejected & locked open when empty & etc., was a 2 for throat, 1 for muzzle. I fired it for function check too, a clip of 70's HXP Greek ammo I had got from Dillon back in the 1990s. It ran... Apparently, that HXP was loaded just a bit hotter because, Greece still used/loved the Browning machinegun and wanted it to run even when dirty from killing lots and lots of filthy Turkish swine or annoying Greek hippy college students complaining about living in a fascist dictatorship 30 odd years after Mussolini and Hitler had bit the big one? 30-06 at high end of M2 spec was preferred for killing such invaders and detractors, the junta didn't worry too much about higher pressure at Garand gas port. Every OTHER "M2" FMJ I put in that Garand short cycled at least a few times out of 8 rounds. None would eject clip and lock back the bolt reliably. These insufficiently gassed rounds included what were reputed to be GOOD modern reproduction Garand ammo from Hornady, PPU, S&B plus several CMP sourced batches of Lake City surplus, all of which performed respectably in my 1903 Springfield and M1917 Eddystone. When one re stocks a Garand, one must consider that sinuous op rod and how it moves. It's JUST shy of contacting most pre inletted CMP replacement stocks (on a good day). On a bad day, or when it's a little more humid than it was where/when they inletted the stock, the op rod can rub on interior of stock, lose energy and cause the short cycle issues I experienced. So after a couple of days and about 20 rounds of coating op rod with red colored grease, firing a round, removing action, inspecting for where the grease got transferred to the stock and CAREFULLY, SLOWLY shaving away the reddish, greasy contact areas, she ran right! Then I sanded out all the tool marks, slightly deepening my cut out area thereby and coated interior of stock with a 50:50 mix of bees wax and mineral oil. Good luck with your re stocked Garand. This RTI business reminds me of Mitchell's Mausers, half assed spiff job rifles that look good enough to extract a premium price from rubes and noobs...

I know this is an older video and find it a bit funny with the comments about the price of these beautiful rifles . Even though this video isn’t all that old most people this day and age would feel lucky to find a nice Garand for only $1499.00 . I was just at Cabela’s a day or two ago and they had at least ten there and the price range was $2600.00 + to just under $5K . The really expensive ones were IHC & Winchester . I have two WWII Garand’s , one Springfield ( serial # on the 700,000 range with the barrel date that matches the production year ) in beautiful shape and super accurate. The other is a Winchester that is a Danish lend lease with the serial # on the heal and the stinker inside the stock with the 300 meter zero . The wood isn’t as nice and has dings and Gouges but that’s all part of its history . Barrel date on that one is in the low 50’s . Shoots good but not as tight as the Springfield . I have not looked at every part to see if they are all correct and don’t really care as I shoot them and they do it well and that’s what matters to me. Just wish I knew where they were used throughout their history . FYI , I paid under a grand for each one but I’ve had them for awhile . I would love to get the H&R & IHC to complete the collection but i want the IHC the most as my dad was a farmer back in the day and International Harvester/ Farmall tractors is what he used as did most of the family and after he retired he restored them . Miss him a lot ;(

The Italian Receivers are nothing special unless you have all the correct Italian marked parts to go with it and wood serial numbered to the receiver. Back in the 1990's there were some Italian receivers imported by a company in Sacramento, and complete parts kits, LESS reciever, were available from AIM and maybe a few others. So you could get an "Italian Garand", with Danish Crown, as they were a contract of about 20,000 for the Danish government. BUT they were just a PARTS kit cobbled to a Breda or Beretta made receiver. All Breda parts were marked BMB or BMR, Beretta were marked BR. Serail numebr on stock matched the reciever and frequently had a "Doping Label" in the barrel channel. Some people if they had the right connections could get a receiver WITH the correctly numbered parts kits kit and have them assembled giving you a Bread or Beretta made Garand back in the 1990's worth $1200, some people even found the correct bayonets and slings as well. So what RTI id selling is an Itanial Reciver Cobbled to probbaly mostly non Italian parts and certainly the stock is not serialed to the receiver. Bredas were usually stamped on the bottom edge of the stock by the rear sling swivel, Berretta were stamped on the side of the stock. I'm sorry, but when I see the things RTI is trying to put over I think of two words FLIM FLAM. The Italians made Garands for other countries as well which may have a crest on the receiver specific to the contracting country, those can get pretty rare, especially if all "correct". FWIW a retired Danish Army Capt told me the Danish troops prefered the Breda made Garands over the Beretta, as the Bredas had better machining work, kinda like Winchester (rough), vs other USGI contractos like HRA etc.

Breda Garands are so nice, specifically the Danish ones. They also have matching receiver numbers on the left side of the stock, on the bottom and as well as the label marked on the inside with correlating receiver number. I'm only speaking of the Danish contract Italian m1's, not sure of the other contracts because each Italian Garand contract was different. The RTI Italian M1's are also import marked which pains me to see.

I’d die get an M1 Garand for under $1000. Regardless of manufacturer

Lol I also forgot to mention, some people fly out to the stores just to pick one out.

@@ChronicAndIronic very seldom do I find a Garand locally for under a grand… it’s just hard just trying to find a Garand. I’ve seen more M1 Carbines at local shops this year than Garands.

Well it makes it more attractive ot buy ann RTI but if folks just dont have that kind of money then i would have to try to go the CMP way?Actually neither way is good for me as i cant get the cost of an RTI past the wife! LOL Especially since none of them have any real historical value as service rifles in WWII by our troops? RTI is just way too expensive! Although RTI dose have a field grade with hand selet starting at 999.99! I may grab one of those?

Cmp doesn't mark rifles

Yes, they don’t have import marks. Only the CMP Special stocks (new made) are marked with the CMP logo.

Made it to :47 before I got tired of hearing you calling it a GAR-and. Yeah I know how his name is pronounced. I also know in 20+ years of shooting vintage military matches with old school, experienced shooters who have classifications like Master and High Master, that any time a new guy came along and called his rifle a GAR-and, someone would correct him that the RIFLE is called a ga-RAND.
