Hello Delvin-Pedia! Great Job on the Marches! something to get your teeth into. The DMs got me flummoxed this time. The 1st 2 DMs, 1 is Stu Laing but I'm not sure of the 2nd, it looks to me like Dan Farley, he's too tall & not energetic enough to be Sam Potts. It's not DM Beasley, I don't think it's Chris Rees, but I haven't seen him for awhile, so it could be I guess. Any Ideas? Whoever it is, also led the Coldstream Guards Band down Horse Guards Ave to Horse Guards Parade at the head of the Veterans. You favourite DM led the Grenadiers down towards the end of the Veterans. I'm never going to roll my eyes again over Footballer Fans. The Pro Hamas & Pro Palestinian Protesters arranged a March against Israel in London, same time as the Remembrance Day Cenotaph Service. The Football Fans Group heard about it & they all went to London, to look after the Veterans. It's Lucky they did 2 nasty incidents happened & no help from the Police. MOTH's Brother in law was there & saw both. One Veteran had a boiling hot cup of tea thrown in his Face! the mongrels! Get this though, The Mayor of London said on Thursday when this Rally was found out about, Remembrance Day Service should be postponed for a week!! The event is 105 years old & happens on the nearest Sunday to 11/11 unless it falls on the Saturday. What was the Council doing issuing a Permit for a Protest March on that day. Lucky we don't still live in the UK.

@@vickyRoyalHistory Hello Vicky!! The New Drum Major is James Johnston, Irish Guards. No Dan Fairley on Parade today. I enjoyed watching it live, as I always do. Bit of a shame how certain people always want to ruin it for everyone. A bit of respect towards the Veterans also wouldn't hurt. It's an Absolute shame that a national act of Remembrance has to be observed in circumstances like these. I do have to give it to the Brits though, they don't stop for Absolutely anything, they simply step over the inconvenience in style. Hope that poor veteran is doing ok. By the way Vicky I added a response on Mr.B's Something Completely Different Antique car video, regarding the Poppy Issue. unsure if you've already seen or read it. Best wishes to you and yours Vicky! Stay Safe! Send my Hellos to Mr. MOTH.

I couldn't find any mention by you of the Poppy thing, except for you saying your response to it, was taken down 5 times by RU-vid. Never mind. Hi Jossi!! I'm pleased to say many people are indeed Proud of the British Military Bands. Remembrance Day is a very Special Day for not only all the 3 Branches of The British Armed Services, the Veterans & the People, it also has meaning for those in the Commonwealth. The Commonwealth was formed in the late 1940s by King George Vl as the British Empire was breaking up with Countries getting their Independence From Britain. The Founding Countries aside from Britain, were Australia, Canada & New Zealand. All 3 had been part of the British Empire & all 3 had fought in the Great War 1914-1918, as part of the British Armed Services. All Troops were recognised as Divisions, the troops from Australia & New Zealand were in 1 Division known as the ANZACs & Canada had her own Division. The ANZACs have their own Remembrance Day on the 25th April. This is to Remember Our Fallen from the Great War 1914-1918 & in particular the Battle of Gallipoli. However, at 11am, on the 11th Day of the 11th Month, both Australians & New Zealanders observe 2mins of Silence & Both Parliaments stop & MPs & Ministers Stand with Heads Bowed & observe 2 mins Silence & the Ode to the Fallen is Read. Even though our Main Observance is on the 25th April, we acknowledge our Men who fell as part of Britain's Armed Services. My Country, NZ with a Population of less than 1 million, sent 98,000 Fighting Troops to WW1, of these there were 58,000 Casualties & over 18,000 killed. The Numbers of Dead include those whose Remains were never found. So ANZAC Day is as big for the Aussies & Kiwis, as Remembrance Day is to the UK. The ANZACs have now spread to be all Australians & NZ who fell during War, That includes active service right up to now. All of us in the Commonwealth Respect & are very Proud of all the Armed Services in the UK. They never have differentiated between British Forces & The Forces the Empire, the Dominions & the Commonwealth have supplied, Our Dead are just as important & revered as their own. Of course we are proud of them. They were & are still Brothers in Arms.

Remembrance sunday, for me, is always the best part of remembrance weekend. When all the old military boys, girls and family relatives get to march past and pay their respects at the cenotaph. I can still recall a few years back when the last of the first world war veterans payed their last respects. Harry patch being the last british tommy. Now its the turn of the second world war veterans to gradually join their comrades in arms together in eternal peace. With younger ones, from other conflicts since, duly replacing them to keep this wonderful british tradition alive.

To quote Max Hastings, a RM Band is the most handsome of British armed forces bands but I’m coming round to the RAF. They set a cracking pace and their drill is smart. Have they been given new greatcoats? Might be the light or the camera but they seem more blue, less gray.
@vickyRoyalHistory
@vickyRoyalHistory 8 месяцев назад
The RAF Greatcoats have always been Blue. The Army have Grey, The House Hold Cavalry have 2 Colours, the Life Guards (White Helmet Plume & Red Tunics) have Scarlet Red with Dark Blue trims & the Blues & Royals (Red Helmet Plume & Blue Tunics) have Navy Blue Greatcoats with Scarlet Red Trims. Prince William, The Prince of Wales, wore The Officers Uniform of the Blues & Royals with the Navy Blue Greatcoat & Red Trim, for the Cenotaph Ceremony for Remembrance Day this year. The Royal Marines Bands are known as the Premier Band of the British Armed Forces, however, in my opinion they have competition for that title from The Band of the Household Cavalry & The Central Band of the RAF, though I think the HH Cavalry Band just slightly shades the RAF Band.

@@Scipionic1941 Hello Scipionic1941! You are most Welcome! To be fair, the Colours of all the Uniforms & Greatcoats can change from Video to Video, with all the different Camera equipment used. I went & checked when the Central Band of the RAF & the King's Colour Guard did the Changing of the Guard at Windsor recently, because of the colour differences. The RAF have listed Navy Blue, Airforce Blue & Serge as their Uniform Colours which include their Greatcoats. My Father was a Fighter Pilot in the RAF during WW2, the photos show a Dark Bluey/Dark Grey Colour, which I believe is called Serge. I personally like the RAF Greatcoat Colour more than the Army's lighter Grey. It looks very Smart with their White Gloves & makes the Drill look really Good.
@Scipionic1941
@Scipionic1941 8 месяцев назад
@@vickyRoyalHistory I agree the RAF Coat Order is smarter than the Army’s and yes, from memory RAF wartime and post-war blue was a darker shade. In this context, I think “serge” is the material rather than the colour. I see, though, that a prestigious paint manufacturer has used “serge” as a name for one of their dark blue colours. The coats were so dense they could almost stand up by themselves. Must have weighed a ton when wet.

Great Way to Start the Video Mr B! The Palace Chapter of the Blue Angels!! The Officer Leading the King's Troop Royal Artillery, has to be on one of The HH Cavalry's Chargers. Well over the 16 hand height & still sporting a Mane, good looking beast that he is (The Horse not the Officer). The Guns & the Artillerymen all look very, very smart. Ahh! The Royal Marines Band. Great Sound! Unusually noticeable drop in Volume at about 4:00 Normally you don't get that, perhaps the Atmospherics are a bit thick. It does mean however, my man on the Bass Trombone really Bosses it! Top man!. Very easy to see why they are considered the Premier Band of the British Armed Forces. I still think the Band of the HH Cavalry would give them serious competition for that title though. The Regimental Bands of the Household Divisions Infantry ready to go. First up, The Bands of The Welsh Guards & The Coldstream Guards, led by DM Stu Laing & a New DM James Johnston of The Irish Guards & Not DM Dan Farley, as I originally thought -Thanks to Delvin for The Info. Next up is The Bands of The Grenadier Guards & the Scots Guards, led by DM Scott Fitzgerald & SDM Gareth Chambers MVO. It seems The Band of The Irish Guards are mixed through the other 4 Bands. At the Rear of the Grenadiers & Scots, marches The Pipes & Drums of the Irish Guards, looking very Smart in their Winter Green Capes & Bonnets. Was nice to see the DMs acknowledging the King's Royal Troop's Number 1 Gun, which stands as their Colour. They always acknowledge any other Regiment's Colours I know, but it's nice to see them do so. Off to Horse Guard Parade for the King's Troop Royal Artillery Salute. At exactly 11am, One shot to Mark the 2 minutes Silence & a Second to Mark the end of the 2 minutes Silence. Symbolically very Important, as that was the Official time the Guns fell Silent in 1918. Back up to Birdcage Walk in time to see the Parade of Veterans, God Bless each & every One of them! Today is to Remember not only those who fell in the Great War of 1914-1918, but all other Wars & Conflicts. We Remember those who were called on to Serve their Country & came home changed for Life & also those who were thankfully not called on to go in to Harms Way. It never fails to move me, to see the Streets lined with ordinary Brits, who come to watch & applaud all the Veterans as they march to Horse Guards Parade. God Bless them too. Finally, the Bands march back. The Palace Chapter of the Blue Angels in front & DM James Johnston leading the Band of The Coldstream Guards & the first of the Veterans, heading down Horse Guards Avenue, you get a glimpse of the Gurkhas Slouch Hats, the Red Berets of the Paras, Kilts & Glengarries of all the Scottish Regiments, the Wrens & Nurses, the RAF Wings & the Submariners. DM Scott Fitzgerald & The Band of the Grenadier Guards are the last Band escorting the Veterans down Horse Guard Avenue. The Central Band of the RAF (sadly without DM Jeanette Scott leading) heading to Wellington Barracks with the RAF contingent. The Royal Marines & the RN contingent follows. SDM Gareth Chambers MVO (Nice catch of the Salute Mr B) leads The Band of the Scots Guards back to Wellington Barracks, followed by DM Stu Laing with the Band of the Welsh Guards. Last but by no means least, here come The Pipes & Drums of The Irish Guards, heading back for a Guinness & to put their feet up. Good Job all of you! This has been a Special Audio & Visual Production by Mr Baton74 Unlimited. As always, of the very Highest Standard. Directed by Mr Baton. On Location Camera by Mr Baton74. Sound by Mr Baton. Mr. B! Another fascinating video of yours! I have a question to all, is it my imagination only, but does the RAF Central Band has a slightly higher marching tempo? I have seen them in recordings from Windsor guard change and they seems to march quicker?
@vickyRoyalHistory
@vickyRoyalHistory 8 месяцев назад
Hi Tram90! I wondered the same thing myself. The Guardsmen march at 116 ppm for a Quick March & 65 for a slow march. The RAF march at 120 ppm for New recruits, otherwise its the same as the Army, 116 ppm & 65 ppm. They certainly appear to be faster, perhaps they increase to 120 when supporting Mixed Air Crew or the King's Colour Regiment. All 3 Services use the Standard Tempi off 116 ppm & 65 ppm. There are a few exceptions, eg The Gurkha Regiments march at 140 ppm & don't have a Slow march at all. They do conform to the Tempo when doing the Guard Changes in London or Windsor. The Light Infantry (Rifles Regiments) march at 160 ppm & also don't have a Slow march. Fun Fact: In the Peninsula Wars of the 19th Century, The Light Division was famous for its march to Talevera in 1809 - covering 250 miles in 6 days. The HH Calvary Band unmounted or Unmounted Cavalrymen in general march at 120 ppm Unless they're wearing their above the knee Jack Boots when the Quick march Tempo may drop as low as 90 ppm. The Slow march Tempo is the standard 65 ppm. These are the Official tempi but they may vary them accordingly.

The Brits were never "pissed off" about the War of Independence, any more they were "pissed off" about the 100 yrs War with the French. In those times, the winning or Loss of Territory or Countries was an accepted part of War. The British Empire in the 18th & 19th Century was the largest in the World, what remains of the British Empire, now makes up part of the Commonwealth. There was no passing down of anything through the Survivors of the American War of Independence to subsequent Generations either. At that time, America wasn't anything Special, just another Part of the British Empire. They weren't even the biggest or best, The Jewel in the Crown was India. The American Wars get a mention in School History Books but that's about it. Although Strangely, many names of Places in America are the same names or derivatives of places in the UK. America is only a relatively young Country, The Monarchies of Europe, including the UK, have ties & have had Wars against each other for more than a thousand years. The relationships between Continental Europe & the UK are covered far more than America purely because of a closer proximity. Our Ancestors who fought in America, some were hastily bought back to Europe for the Battle of Waterloo in 1815 in an Alliance of Countries against Napoleon Bonaparte & the French. That Battle & previous ones, were known as The Peninsular Wars & those were far more important to the British than the American Wars were. You could sail from England to France in a few hours or depending on the weather a few days. It took Months to Sail to America. By the way, Ancestors are the people we come from & we are their Descendants, it gets confusing sometimes, especially when there's common names running through the Generations. Also, Britain or Great Britain, refers to only some of the Countries who make up what's now the United Kingdom or the UK. Britain was originally England & Scotland. In 1707, Wales, Scotland & England formed Great Britain & Finally since 1992, the Unification of Wales, Scotland, England & Northern Ireland has been known as the United Kingdom or UK for short. AND that becomes Bloody Confusing, when you're dealing with Historic Events, as the names change with the addition of more Countries.

Remembrance day is not there to honour the fallen. It is there for the glorification of the military.
@vickyRoyalHistory
@vickyRoyalHistory 8 месяцев назад
What a load of Twaddle!! The Last thing that Glorified on Remembrance Day in the UK, Veterans Day in the USA or ANZAC Day in Australia, New Zealand & Turkey is the Military! The Military were the Mechanism that sent People to their Death. But War is at its Basic Level a Political Construe & The Military is the Physical Arm that carries out the Political Notions & Theories. Therefore, the Armed Forces are sent by The Military, to carry out the Tasks that involve the Fighting of other Armed Forces(The Enemy) who were sent by The Military of another Country & their Allies, who are physically carrying out the Will of the Political Governors of their Countries. They will continue Fighting until such time as One side can force their will & the Political Notions & Theories on the other or they lose the will to continue to Fight. The Remembrance Ceremonies aren't only to Remember & Honour those that Fell in the Great War 1914-1918, which was its Original Purpose, it now Remembers & Honours those who have Fallen in all Wars & Conflicts since. It now has Morphed to Remember & Honour those who went to War & have come home forever different whether from the Loss of a Limb, Scarred Body or Scarred Mentally from the things they saw & experienced. The Military's Role in these Ceremonies, is to bring Current Members who Serve in the Armed Services, together so they can Honour People who made the Ultimate Sacrifice, those before & those who served in present day, from their Regiment, Squadron & Ships. The British Military Facilitates the Act of Remembrance for Current Armed Services Members & in doing so keeping the Continuity of Remembering.

Not a lot. It's now called the United Kingdom, with emphasis on the word United. After the Romans left the Province they called Britannia, there was a lot of small Independent Kingdoms, that covered what is now Wales, England & Scotland. King Alfred the Great, the King of Wessex, one of the largest & Richest Kingdoms, started to Unite or Conquer the other Kingdoms, his dream was to have the whole of the Country being just 1 Kingdom, to be called "Engaland" , it didn't happen in his lifetime but his Son, Edward the Elder ruled from 899 - 924 & his Grandsons, united all the Kingdoms, apart from Wales & Scotland. That is England now. Leaping ahead, King Edward l (aka Edward Longshanks) between 1277-1283 Conquered Wales, finally Killing the Welsh Prince Llewelyn ap Gruffudd in 1282 & claiming Wales as a Territory of England & Britain was Born. Edward l (aka The Hammer of the Scots) then turned his attention to Scotland, kicking off what's known as the 1st War of Independence. This was also the time of William Wallace. The fighting of England & Scotland continued on for years, with England taking parts of Scotland & then the Scots taking it back. It wasn't until 1603 when Queen Elizabeth l died naming James Vl of Scotland as her heir, that the 2 Crowns of Scotland & England United with King James l /James Vl of England /Scotland. Scotland remained as a Kingdom until 1649, when King Charles l was executed by Oliver Cromwell, who then Marched into Scotland, that the Conquest of Scotland was complete. King Charles ll came to the Throne after Cromwell's death, by invitation of Parliament. During his reign, the British went into Ireland. It wasn't until 1707 that Scotland & England merged , during the Reign of Queen Anne, the last Monarch of the Royal House of Stuart, following the Ratification of The Acts of Union, on the 1st May 1707. Prior to this, she was the Queen of Britain (England & Wales), Scotland & Ireland from 1702-1707. From 1707 onwards, she was the Queen of Great Britain (England, Wales & Scotland) & Ireland. In 1801, a new Acts of Union was passed, Th Acts of Union 1800, Uniting the Kingdom of Ireland & the Kingdom of Great Britain. This then became The United Kingdom, under the Rule of King George lll. There was 1 further Change. In 1921, Ireland was split into 2, Southern & Northern Ireland by an act of Parliament. Originally, the intention was that both would remain part of the United Kingdom, with 1 half of Ireland being Protestant & the other being Catholic. As you can imagine the People of Ireland didn't take to the idea, unsurprisingly. In 1922, the Irish War of Independence, led to Southern Ireland seceding from The United Kingdom & is now The Republic of Ireland. Northern Ireland chose to stay. The Division of Ireland was the 4th attempt to Establish Home Rule in Ireland & was as disastrous as previous attempt. So since 1922, the Name has been The United Kingdom & Northern Ireland. Northern Ireland was never a Kingdom, it had been part of the Kingdom of Ireland, which ceased to exist in 1921, that's why it isn't included as part of the UK by name. So, As you can see, there is no Britain, & no Great Britain, there is only the United Kingdom & Northern Ireland.
