Band of the Household Cavalry along with the Band of the Royal Yeomanry and the British Army Band Tidworth taking part in the Cavalry and Yeomanry Regimental Remembrance Sunday in Hyde Park.
The salute was taken by His Royal Highness Prince Edward, The Earl of Wessex, with troops from the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment, The Royal Yeomanry, The Royal Wessex Yeomanry, The Queen's Own Yeomanry and Scottish and North Irish Yeomanry. The massed bands then marched back to barracks stopping at the memorial commemorating the members of the Blues and Royals who lost their lives in the Hyde Park Bombings, for a brief service.
The massed bands then continued on back to the barracks.

Well done chaps. Love the marches, it takes me back to the early 60s when i served in the Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment, both in NZ and also in Malaysia. I'm 82yo now and never forgot where i came from as a young man. We served alongside the 3rd East Anglians, and later with the Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, as well as the Royal Australian Regiment Infantry as the Far East Land Forces Brigade Group. God bless all Commonwealth Soldiers. Robert Wilson. NZ.

Perfect weather, perfect parade for the remaining venerable old regiments of Cavalry. The Cavalry Memorial Parade, sometimes affectionately known as the 'March of the Hangovers'. And who could deny them the close bond of friendship and a party atmosphere on the Cavalry's Day. May God preserve them.

What a totally Delightful Young Man HRH Prince Edward The Earl of Wessex is. The amount of Respect & Humbleness is clearly there to see, towards all the Parade, the Bands & he looked the part, each time the flags went by followed by the Men & Woman, he acknowledged them with a Dip of his head in respect. You can't help but think he's far more deserving of the Honour that his Parents gave him in naming him as the Earl of Wessex on his Wedding day & making a Statement that when the Duke of Edinburgh title was free, Prince Edward would carry it in recognition of the work he has done for The Duke of Edinburgh Award Trust. It seems King Charles lll, isn't prepared to honour his Parents Wishes in that regard & keep the title for his own Branch of the Family. HRH Prince Edward, it seems, is destined to stay 3 Ranks Lower that his Brothers & his two Nephews, as an Earl. He deserves far better treatment than he's received. What can you say about the British Military Bands? nothing more than has always been said. They are the Epitome of what a Marching band should be, they all set the World's Standards For the Military Marching Bands & the Mounted Bands also. No matter which part of the Services they are, Beginners or Experienced, they are untouchable & the throat closes a bit & Tears Well Up & it makes you Proud to be British.

@@oberscl However, we don't fail to see your Ignorance & Lack of Respect. These "old men parading with an umbrella" do so in Memory of Their Comrades who fell & all the past Men of their Regiments that fell. The fallen are called The Glorious Dead for a reason & they are remembered for their Ultimate Sacrifice by all members of a Regiment, their own families & very grateful Nations of The United Kingdom & Commonwealth. The Grand thing about being British, is that this Traditional Remembrance of Regiments, by the Regiment itself & ex-service Personnel is unique, the closest thing to it is a Remembrance of all fallen Service Personnel on a specific day, such as Veterans Day, Remembrance Day, ANZAC Day (Australia & New Zealand). So it is Great to be British, a Britain that has so many Traditions & in particular Traditions that pertain to the Memory of many Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen & Auxiliary Services that fell in Service to their Country.

Can anyone tell an ignorant foreigner why many of the old boys are carrying umbrellas in that funny way? There is bright sunshine and not a drop of rain to expect.
@MrBaton74
@MrBaton74 2 года назад
I've copied this from a post, hopefully it will answer some of your questions. "More than two thousand soldiers paraded past the memorial in traditional “walking out dress” of bowler hats, suits, and regimental ties. Each carried a furled umbrella, which is designed never to be opened, even if it rains, unless it is to offer shelter to another. The bowler hat, synonymous in the 20th century with city gents, was originally designed to be worn by horse riders as a form of protection from low lying branches. It is an apt and practical choice of civilian headgear for the Cavalry, who pride themselves on being equally as at home on ceremonial mounted duties as they are formidable in armoured reconnaissance on the modern battlefield."

@meadowlands1937
@meadowlands1937 2 года назад
@wagnerfan While MrBaton74 is correct, there is a simpler explanation as to why they are wearing this "uniform". In earlier times, officers of the Brigade of Guards were expected to maintain the high standards of dress even when in civilian dress when out-and-about in London. The dark suit, bowler and brolly was the prescribed dress order for civilian wear. That standard lasted until well into the 1960s. Now it is the customary fashion for former officers of the Household Division to wear at all remembrance activities. It also is still in use by Guards officers who while off duty are occasionally required to attend to official business.
