"40 million views" in 11 days isn't a thing to brag about when it involves one of the world's largest IPs and is available to watch in 240 countries and territories.

@@joshuatree1577 "Countries _and territories_ " of which the UN recognizes 241. I don't know if the show is actually available in effectively all of them, but Amazon itself advertises "Prime Video is available in over 200 countries and territories".

@@joshuatree1577I think the key point was “countries AND territories”. Supposedly that comes to 248 in total, based on a quick Googling. Though I could neither confirm nor deny if RoP is available in 240 of them. Edit: In fact the Wikipedia page for the show says more than 240.

I genuinely wouldnt be surprised if they count each individual click on the video as a separate viewer. So essentially if 10 million people show up for each episode over 4 episodes, then they can release articles like this one and say "we've had 40 million viewers". Big companies like this usually pull out every trick in the book to fluff up their numbers to try to mislead investors.

They probably count each click as multiple views. If the Amazon Prime account has four people attached to it, I'd wager they "assume" all four people watched together and count accordingly.

After suffering through Season 1, I only lasted 20 minutes into episode 1 of Season 2. It was so bad that I couldn't even enjoy hate watching it nor even watch the YT videos tearing it to pieces. It's just pure ugliness on every human level.

There are a growing number of stories of people falling asleep watching it, waking up and finding it's reloaded and replayed. And testing this. "Viewers", or "partial views"? We live in a post-truth era. As someone from before the post-truth era, I'm not just offended by the lies of this show and its makers, but the production company. And the destruction of the concept of "truth" anyway.

This is what you get when you take a beloved world, give it to a pair of hacks, who should of NEVER even seen a single penny of this show's budget and double down on stupid when you had the chance to pivot and also directly insuilt your customers along with their general intellegance, Amazon should pull the plug on this series, take the hit because its not worth producing any more seasons if the viewership is in serious decline!

Thats 363 thousand households a day. Thats ridiculously low viewership. Thats one third the population of Houston texas a day watching it. For more context, Seinfelds last episode had 100 million viewers the single day of the episode. One day it had 100 million views. This show got one third that many views in 11 days. Its such low view's that this show is beyond a failure. Im honestly glad because they ruined the lore, everything about this show was done wrong.

When comparing the minutes watched with the acolyte, it's important to also keep in mind that its episodes are significantly shorter than those of the rings of prime, and while the acolyte was already very expensive, it's barely in the same order of magnitude if you assume the one billion will be the actual total after season 5. As for the fans, if you consider how the silmarillion is almost a historical text in style, and definitely a departure from the hobbit and the lord of the rings, anyone diving into that and other posthumous works will be very unlikely to have much tolerance for deviations from the known lore, and that's before accounting for how badly written the show is. With how things are going, even if they could somehow spit out three other seasons without speding a dollar on them, I think the would struggle making back the budget already spent, let alone turn a profit on it.

@@henrykfu , that was a side effect of the cancellation. The producers were told by the execs to wind things down quickly and halve the number of originally planned episode. Still, I think they did a pretty good job. Given the circumstances they were in.

@@katharina8963 Equally cringe, but less evil in terms of symbolism. Tolkien's Galadriel represented purity and wisdom on a cosmic level. Sauron represented manipulation and lust for power on a cosmic level. You can do the good girl/evil guy pairing with something like Phantom of the Opera. It's actually redemptive and uplifting in that context. But that doesn't work in a Tolkien context with these two characters.

@@katharina8963 Except obviously it's not even remotely on the same level. Shipping Galadriel with Sauron is like shipping Jesus with Satan bc they'd make a cute gay couple. It has _insanely_ far reaching implications for Tolkien's lore. Miriel + Elendil does not, however cringe it is. But shipping Galadriel with Sauron is akin to actual blasphemy within Tolkien's lore, and an utter defilement of his own morality and world view. And the show treats this like it's cute.....

I kind of feel sorry for the people who have worked on it. I'm sure there are some talented people that were hoping to make a name for themselves, not be associated with a failure, maybe the biggest failure. People will use this show as a benchmark for failure. Like in that film Kingpin where the guys name was used to describe failure. "The guy was totally munson-ed" lol. It will be "That show was a total ringer." or something like that hah. Anyway cheers for the news.

I hate the show runners so much for this I hope they never get to work again in the industry. Waited my whole life to see the 1st or 2nd age adapted to film and they completely disrespected every aspect of it. The 2nd age has so many epic events that happen in it and these show runners have made it like it means nothing. It's a horrible adaptation and ... everything about it is trash. Hopefully Amazon cancels and sells the ip and some other streaming games service does it right. Because it would be amazing if done right.

They'll pull the plug, now or after a very short season 3. The pre-release hype is what they wanted, that is what got them a ton of new subscribers, which was the main goal. That is where a large chunk of the budget went. This entire train wreck show was a giant Amazon prime ad. The actual content was always an afterthought (which explains hiring novice writers with nothing to their name to helm a supposedly 1 billion dollar flagship show). There never wil be 5 seasons. Thank Illuvatar....

According to data recently published by the National Institute for the Study of Viewership (NISV, a fake entity I just invented), ROP season 2 has over 25 million highly satisfied viewers. Recent surveys conducted by NISV also indicate that 92 percent of viewers stated that Galadriel is totally not small and a credible, athletic fighter.

I think those watching (like myself) were just curious to see how poorly it was going. Or if by some miracle it had gotten better. But i can safely and sadly say its pretty rubbish. There are some small things I liked but overall its just so boring.
