I got some new rods for carp fishing, the Ugly Stik GX2 medium heavy action. This might be one of the best rods for carp at such an affordable price point. Paired with a Daiwa Regal Bite and Run BRI 4000 reel, this makes for a great combo for catching carp. Tonight I managed to land a few fish with these rods, and I'm happy with the performance.

Ugly stiks are awesome rods. I have some mid-range reels on mine and yet outfish friends of mine with more expensive combos. Its not the rod nor real but the art.

I've owned a ugly stick from the 80's and still have it the new combo from Cabela's don't say Shakespeare name on it is new just got it because it doesn't say anything but UGLY Stick and thr reel is great working size 50 reel medium heavy rod GX2.

I made a stream carp fishing noodle rod from my old green Heddon 8 foot slow action 8 weight fly rod perfect for clear streams 6 pound mono and #2 baitholder hooks circa 1978-1980

Excellent video. I have been using "Regular" size rods for years for carp without issues in Canada. ugly sticks are great and have used them since the 90's. no need for the 12-15 foot rods as long as your line strength is good. Casting out huge distances is not really needed here in most lakes in canada and america, because there are so many carp and no pressure on them. try the 7 foot ugly stick tiger, is also a great option.

Glad you enjoyed the video. I'm of the same mindset when it comes to carp rods. 90% of the time I don't need to cast a mile, and a 6.5 or 7 ft rod handles big carp just fine. Plus, they fit in the back of my truck without having to take them apart. Thanks for watching!

I am noticing you edit your videos to cut down on the time to land the fish. I think that makes it more interesting. I should try that or speed it up a bit to the show..

It really depends if the fight was remarkable or not. Sometimes I show the whole fight, sometimes not.

Nice videos and nice carp! I live in NJ and after catching some carp on some corn and seeing how they fight I'm going to start fishing for carp more. I am going to get a gx2 rod like you but I don't know whether to get a medium heavy 7" or a medium power 6"6. I want the rod to have power to handle the fish but not too stiff because I want the rod to cast well and the fight to be fun. Lol I tend to overthink things like this but I'm very new to carping so should I get a medium power rod or a medium heavy power rod for carp? Keep it up

Do you know where to get those bait cages? I’ve always just packed the pack bait around the sinker and slider so it usually stays well put but I’d certainly want something that would help grip the bait better

Have you ever used just sweet corn? If so, do you think boilies are better?

Yep, I've caught a lot of carp with sweet corn, they love it. Thing is, small fish like bluegill love it too, and will steal your bait. I don't have that issue with boilies or boiled feed corn. The bait is too big for the small fish.

Thanks for the reply Tom. I have just switched to soft plastic corn on a hair and chum with regular sweet corn and it seems to work well and super easy since you can catch multiple fish on the same fake corn. I sometimes put a very small piece of regular corn on the hook just to add some scent to the fake corn. Another question for you. I am too lazy to make a pack bait so I just get a 99 cent loaf of white bread, add some corn and squeeze it around the sinker and I wonder if you ever compared that to your pack bait.

I've used bread + sweetcorn as a pack bait before, but I shredded up the bread in the food processor first. Your way is much simpler! Think I'm going to try it and see what happens. So, you just take a slice of bread, put some sweet corn on it, and then pack that around your sinker?

Daiwa doesn't make those reels anymore. The replacement model is called Emcast, and are more expensive.

My typical pack bait batch consists of half a large container of old fashioned oats, some boiled feed corn (or 1 can sweet corn drained), 1 can of creamed corn. That's it. This is what I fish with 99% of the time. Sometimes I'll add horse feed pellets, or garlic powder, or vanilla for a little something extra.

@@aleksandyrveliki162 Those numbers on rods are just suggestions. Unless you're doing some power long distance casting, then I wouldn't worry about it.
