Coming back to this after the latest Harry Potter episode two years later and you’re not jaded by justice league yet! You can hear the hope in your voice before you’ve watched it and it’s beautiful to know that’s gone
TinyHippo Gaming maybe Hermione was just putting the moves on him and just said "oh no harry you go ahead and fight the evil wizard and I'll stay here with ron because he definitely needs my help more"
I've just started watching the Harry Potters with my husband. I remember these podcast episodes but I've always skipped the HP stuff and now coming back around. Having James explaining a lot of this to Mason is so helpful since I now have the same questions and have a good laugh at the HP based humor. Also thanks to those in the comments who clarify and correct.
feat. James pretending to know nothing about Harry Potter but actually knows nearly everything about Harry Potter. Thanks for the early release! I've been looking forward to your HP discussion.
I love this podcast. \o/ To go full HP nerd about some of the things mentioned here - - Voldemort's snake isn't the one that Harry lets out in the first movie. That was a boa constrictor; Nagini was poisonous. - Hufflepuff's qualities are loyalty and hard work, or something. - You can use magic even if you haven't graduated Hogwarts, but not if you are expelled as a murder suspect, lol. - The books mention something about not being able to magic food into existence. - John Rhys-Davis is Gimli from LOTR, so I think you mean Jonathan Rhys Myers? - The first two movies are objectively the worst because the actors were all wee kids, but probably the best in terms of paying tribute to the books they're based on and not messing up important character/plot shit, according to grumpy book fans... like me. :D
"The books mention something about not being able to magic food into existence" I think this is supposed to apply for everything, like when you make something appear it has to have come from somewhere, but you know, magic and whatnot
You know, technically he is not the best just because, but he is cursed to be the best. The curse put a bit more of another person's soul inside of him. He walks around overpowered due to the fact he is rolling with more than just his magic power. Also Petunia resents her sister for *dying*. They were best friends and the way she saw it was that magic killed her sister and so anything she loves that has to do with magic is be treated with extreme hatred, including the memory of her sister and Harry.
I the third episode of Agents of Shield they have an expository conversation about how the EMP has wiped out everything... Under brightly shining streetlights.
When they suggested bad series endings, Lost was what immediately popped into my mind as well. That and maybe Terminator Salvation, but that one was more because of it clearly ending before it was meant to.
Hogwarts is in Scotland, and the thing about the enchantments you said is true, but also, it looks like a run down castle rather than a not-run-down-magic-castle. Love ya work mr Sunday
I must be dumb for not understanding the aspect of the movie, the giant spider, a good mate of hagrids mind you, is all chatty then just lets the other spiders attack. Never understood why exactly if they are pals of hagrids. It’s basically a pet that went either semi wild/or just kept in the back garden of hog warts.
Have either of you guys read the new Ahsoka book? Furthermore, what is your opinion on Ahsoka and her development through the Clone Wars/ Rebels series?
Looked up that Liam Aiken kid, he was in Leminy Snickett(? spelling) in a lead role apparently, doesnt seem to have killed himself, or others or become a coke binging lunatic, we're all good Maso, no worries.
It’s not an all British cast. There’s many non British actors in Harry Potter, mad eye Mooney, one of the Weasley’s, Luna and her father, seamus, they’re all Irish, not from the UK/British.
Does anyone know where I might find a clip of Mason saying his famous "It's fine, but you're wrong, but it's fine" thing? It's for a video I'm making. Thanks.
Early in the first Harry Potter film, Quirrell doesn’t shake Harry’s hand when they first meet and says that it’s because he’s superstitious. It’s a very quick moment but I guess it’s alright foreshadowing.
Will there be a part in a movie where Martin Freeman's character (whatever his name is, i forget it) and Doctor Strange interact? I don't know if i would like that or not?
Brandon Scales who do they enslave? like subjugated aliens or the "humans" and yeah i understand that they have absolute power because of the emperor and all that but does he like make people poor on purpose or goes to war with anyone other than the rebels and stuff like that. its notreally made clear in the movies tbh maybe in the extended universe a lot more
@@Aleph-Noll I mean they blew up a planet, and they use a power called the Dark Side, also notice that none of their soldiers are shown to be aliens it seems to be a all "human" group (racism?)
@@judeconnor-macintyre9874 to be fair they only blew up the planet after decades of civil war (but yeah obviously evil) and no one really knows about the dark side thing other than the jedi and elite of the empire (and even then its not like they know what it is) but yeah they do seem to be racists against non human aliens.
with that cinema game of "Huzzah!" my friends and I like to call it "Roll Credits!" because of CinemaSins, but we don't yell it out we just quietly lean over to each other and whisper "Roll Credits!"
Coming at this late but Lucius doesn't try to kill HP in the end of the second movie. I just watched it and if you turn on captions he says "Vera-" which is the start of a different spell. Could be a retcon in the text though.
I don't think they built the station around the lazer......Toward the end of Episode III, we see the framework being built and it doesn't have the lazer yet, I don't think. As for what the Empire does that's bad, killing Jedi is one, sure, but to the general public, they think the Jedi turned on THEM. Remember Order 66? Palpatine convinced the senate and everyone that they had to take down the Jedi in retaliation.
im sure it will be great, but i'm finding the trailers to be a bit too quippy for my liking you know what i mean, doctor strange was almost always a serious character. im sure the movie will be awesome tho and maybe the trailers are just condensing together it for the general audience
as a longtime listener and fan of the show I felt it necessary to voice my concerns about the ramping up of anti clown rhetoric that that has been pervading the show. its gotten to the point where nick mason is openly calling for violence against clowns stating "you can do whatever you want" I'd like to remind you that behind every squeaky nose, furry wig, and oversized pair of shoes is a human being who is on a mission to bring joy to the hearts and minds of people everywhere. its important to differentiate between the evil clowns and the good clowns over at www.clownswithoutborders.org if you don't believe me. stop the hate. #clownlivesmatter
OH! OH! That's it! I've had it, I QUIT! Mason is an Empire Thug? Oh HELL NO! What about the Force Mason, did you forget about the force? Don't you understand what a disappointment you will become to that force? (*shaking head in dismay/disbelief/and disgust) I mean, if anything James is supposed to be the darkside cronie. (no offense) But you're all too happy to go marching about with some snazzy plastic uniform. Well, just so you know, The rebel alliance offers 401K and free dental. "bastard"
The reason why philosopher was changed to sorcerer for the American release is because we associate philosopher with people like Socrates and Plato instead of a magical person.
Ian Babcock so does every country. maybe it was changed to make it more obvious for an American audience? not the first time something like that has happened. not being anti American it's a bit condescending on the part of the film studios IMO
I grew up with both the books and films, but I have to say, I feel the films aren't that good. Maybe it came out too soon or maybe Warner just wanted a quick quid. Either way, they aren't as good as they should have been and I neither love or loath them, just wish they were better.
Benyamin Aprilianto True, but the sword didn't appear because he was Harry Potter, it appeared because he was in Gryffindor. And the phoenix was sent by Albus.
I honestly couldn't care less about Rogue One. They are milking Star Wars......and Disney is trying to make back the money spent when they bought Lucasfilm.......Thing is, I never really wanted them to buy it in the first place, lol. "Please watch and help us out." *Louis CK voice* "Well....screw you, I don't gotta do crap." lol but I do care about the main series, the Episodes, so I will probably watch Ep. 8 next year. I'm just not "in" when it comes to the in betweens, year round thing.
as a fan of the books that disavowed the movies I actually recently revisited them with my bro. I can confirm James' point that the world and effect are excellent. i had only seen 1,2,4,5 and swore off them even though i thought five was an improvement, i was just so disappointing with story changes particularly the first couple. My brother, a staunch defender convinced me to revisit them. He re-watched them all. I said no way re-watching ones i had seen and to my surprise I can confirm there are some truly good ones. I think three was a great kids movie and also well directed performances from improving actors help it out. 6 was awesome and I was pleasantly surprised they adapted so well what is sometimes my favorite book of the series. I was infuriated that Part1 is longer than part 2 and yet ends at malfoys and not gringots. However 7 part 2, while not without it flaws, was a satisfying conclusion to the film series. To me still doesn't touch the catharsis of the books but a a good series with severalbad ones, okay ones and some i think are truly great. ranking the films 1. 6- truly amazing they adapted some of my favorite moments so well 2. 3- pretty much redeems the seriesbeginning and got me invested again 3. 7 part2- some pacing insistensy but really reaping rewards of latter movies faithfullness to book 4. 5 - first one I thought was legitimately good (though i had skipped three in that time) 5. 4 - okay to good one that i though suffered from not being abale to adapt whole story. 6. 7 pt 1 7/8. 1-2 - lame but probably good for younger kids but i had already read book and thought while everyone and lots of things look how i imagined the story was rushed. Overall good foundation, but marred by some cringey moments.
You guys are wrong about the Harry Potter movies. The later ones are boring as fuck, she clearly runs out of ideas by like the fifth one. It gets the point where it's just two hours of everybody dicking around doing nothing and then every action sequence is just people shooting sparks at each other. The early ones may have some not so great performances from the child actors, but I'll take giant spiders, werewolves and time travel over Daniel Radcliffe being able to adequately deliver a moody monologue any day of the week.
