It’s silly to think Rolex would ever stop selling the stainless steel, submariner and Daytona they sell so many of them they would never stop making them
Most definitely. While his collection is most definitely impressive, I wonder if it’s really that interesting 🤷🏽 what do you think? I much prefer learning about collectors and their collections that have interesting stories.
@@ChristopherNegroni to be honest I feel like the Daytona, together with the Nautilus and Royal Oak are the most overhyped and overpriced watches in today’s (aftermarket) industry. The fact that they are has more to do with the power of the internet and social media than with the true value of these watches. Maybe I’m a bit biased because I’m not a huge fan of Gerald Genta design watches. I think this special edition Daytona is Rolex proving the industry that subtle is king. The fact that they modified the movement just for for the 24hr subdial shows that they didn’t just want to make a quick profit. Only a true watch enthusiast will spot this watch and know it’s something special. Only thing I wish they didn’t do is the display caseback but same goes for the Platona.
@@Maarten_official_account I echo your sentiment, I too believe these watches are somewhat overvalued compared to other timepieces. But I also think some of the hype is justified and can be explained by the changing fashion and what people value. People dress very differently now, it’s much more acceptable to dress casually, so it makes sense that sporty designs with higher water resistance would gain popularity.
@@ChristopherNegroni True, the world is becoming more casual and even the more dressy watch has a place in this changing world. Even though there’s no dresswatch to be found in my own collection I admire the guy casually wearing a Reverso with jeans and a plain t-shirt. One day I’ll be that guy. But 100k for a steel, date only, PP or AP isn’t justifiable in my opinion. I hope I’m making myself clear because English isn’t my native language. By the way, I only discovered your channel this morning but love the content 👍
@@Maarten_official_account yes sir, I appreciate the great comments/ conversation. Thank you for watching and welcome to my channel, feel free to follow me on IG and message me anytime. I’m always done for watch talk.
I agree with you Negroni, this makes me suspect this is how Rolex bumps up a notch their watches to compete with higher horology. Eventually steel models will be solely for Submariner and some GMTs while Daytonas, Day Dates and Yatchmasters will come in gold. The go-between will be datejusts which will come in both steel two tone and maybe some in full gold?
Even further, I believe Rolex will eventually bring back iconic iterations of all their sports models, but in this higher tier premium version. They have to devise ways to keep big collectors happy. Big collectors = big money
The design of the Le Mans is beautiful. The lack of availability highlights that Rolex likes to flex more then have its customers wear its watches. Seems Rolex wants to design and manufacture Safe Queen watches. Sadly, the host of the video is grinning in this video, but it is so sad that you hype a watch which only a rare view will be allowed to buy.
@@ChristopherNegroni Chris, you are free to express yourself in any way. My point was why waste time hyping a watch that nobody in your audience will get a chance to own.
@@dannysimenauer5745 I don’t think you fully understood the video Danny, my goal was not to “hype” this watch up. Rather she’s light on the release and what it means for the future of the Daytona line, and Rolexes plans to move its customer base higher and higher. I try to do so in an informative, entertaining, and engaging way. RU-vid’s hard! 😆
you really can't blame rolex. the blame is on the consumers who pushed the secondary value on basic good tool watches. A coworker bought a pepsi GMT master II when they were first introduced in the 70's, he was amazed when I told him that beat up 50 yr. old watch is going for 4 times what he paid for it.
I blame everyone. Money and greed is all around. Rolex likes to pretend like it’s secondary markets fault but they aren’t doing anything about these brand new models being flipped the very next day 👁️ there’s a lot of things that go on behind the shadows
You’re absolutely right. It’s the unfortunate truth. A lot like these new releases, the first time you’ll see them in the wild will be on grey market sites.
At least not in singapore, but for hk and China, you can buy straight for the ADs if you are prepared to pair watches lol. For the 3 markets, most grey rolex are from overseas markets.
@@ChristopherNegroni I heard this today from a Theo and Harris video and then yours and honestly it made me doubt that my watch (wg of) had a ceramic bezel lol
@@lofihifi792 😂😂😂 no no you’re good man. They’ve had ceramic bezel on daytona for a while actually. First was on the platinum daytona, then leather bracelet daytona, then oysterflex. But I know many people, like myself have wanted ceramic bezels on white gold and yellow gold full bracelet option. Awesome watch by the way, hope you’re enjoying that.
@@chipmacgill I have owned it for 20 years and don’t wear it. I have a son in the military I am leaving it to when I pass so he can sell it as a collector item.
Do you hate everything you own that has gone up ten folds in value? Let us know when you have a garage sale. Btw, why did you buy the watch if you hated it so much?
Rolex is no longer producing watches for the masses. They are the premium brand and make luxury watches. Tudor is the affordable sub 20k brand and Rolex will push up market to wealthy elite. Well done Rolex
First of all Rolex makes watches in massive quantities more than ever and it is still a luxury brand 2nd, wealth alone does not make you an elite. The real elite of the world are not amused with childish stuff like luxury watches or Lamborghinis etc. These are hobbies for average groupies like you and me ordinary citizens who happens to have a bit more money than the other less fortunate. Kapiiiiish!
Look guys 30yrs ago a sub date pre-ceramic was $1,500 mass produce item. Rolex is the most recognize brand. 15 yrs ago rolex started buying back their own watch. Patek limited production sells for thousands more. Yes I get it not same quality. But why not step up the quality make less and make more money. It make sense. If you follow Rolex you see this coming.
You think so? Why do you say that? I think it’s cool, but I personally like a bit of heft. I’ve yet to see or try it on so I’ll reserve judgement until I do 😬
Great Video..But the title of the video still needs to be addressed. I think Rolex is trying to beat replicas and they are opening cases and going on the precious metals wagon. All said, they will lose the market if consumers look in the way of fakes. they are on par now
Unfortunately it isn’t that easy because the human psychology is such that people want what they can’t get. Part of the appeal is that it isn’t available. I hate it but it’s the truth.
Mmmm I may be in a minority but I've always thought that the Daytona is an ugly duckling it leaves me cold..... Now if Rolex brought back versions of the pre Daytona reference chronographs they would be white hot...... For me the most beautiful chronograph on planet earth just has to be the Breguet Type XX chronograph absolutely stunning and from a brand with far more heritage and history than Rolex.... Wear a type XX and get total and utter respect from all watch guys 👍
Tbh I don’t want to impress watch guys. I want to buy what I like. The type XX is a great watch. But not for everyone. The Daytona is popular for a reason.
