I started out with Roman Szmal's set of 5 colors and, in my opinion, made some of my prettiest paintings with just those five colors, so the color combinations you can achieve in that set would be one way to answer your MVP question, I suppose! I love RS paints and I'm glad I have a palette of them.

Your painting is so good!! My favorite part of this entire video was listening to how excited YOU were that you were and I have no doubt it’s always going to be special one even as you continue to improve (which you are doing very quickly!). There’s something so special about that first painting when you finish and realize you CAN create something that truly exceeds all your expectations… I’m 63 and began in oils and I still have mine. It’s just lemons on a table but I didn’t have any lessons and just got books and found couple people to paint with. I adore Roman Szmal paints! My favorites truly. I bought the wooden set for myself and gave one to a friend. We’ve been moving and remodeling but I am just waiting for a big sale so I can order more!! I’m not really a half pan person but I just may have to buy this one!! It will bring joy as it will remind me of your excitement and being so proud of your painting. You truly made my day!! Blessings, Nancy Rolfe

There's empty watercolor tins for purchase, and you can store the half pans wider apart so they don't contaminate each other. Some of these colors are so good that it's not worth messing them up, I would also go as far as having more brushes to use and rinse them well just to maintain the purity. Very nice set 😊👍

Scarlet pyrrol by m Graham..in Daniel Smith its pyrrol orange and schminka its saturn orange mixed with smalt by Windsor and Newton or cobalt blue violet by Daniel smith or ultramarine violet by schminka........basically any bright bright orange with a blue violet color...pump it up with a granulating cobalt and it's gorgeous!!!!¡!!!

This new palette looks very versatile for urban sketching and other paintings too. It contains some colors I already enjoy and new to me colors too. ‘Normal’ yellow ochre is opaque and your gold ochre looks more transparent or semi transparent. Love your painting! One mix I enjoy is PV14 dark (cobalt violet dark) plus neutral tint. ❤

My favourite colours to mix together is Cobalt Teal with Potter's Pink, it creates the most beautiful muted granulating taupe-y grey. I'm obsessed. I don't know if it would be considered underrated per se, but I don't see it very often.

so glad to see it in action on youtube! it has been on my wishlist for quite a while, sketchers I know who attended the Świdnica urban sketching festival tried it back in the summer and loved it, I've been waiting for it to come out for so long, yet I can't get around to buying it, haha I own two of these colours so it's harder to commit but the tin might just be worth it for how many half pans it can carry (I obviously have the Buff Titanium, it is known as the "dirty walls" colour among Polish sketchers and I love using it as well as the Aquarius Grey, both are just perfect for generic Polish city neighbourhoods, and I recently got Aquarius Green as a gift from RS when I attended paint testing in my hometown and had some good watercolour conversations with the lady who does the swatches on their pan packaging and these big swatch booklets for art stores :D) I don't think I have any underrated colour combos, I mostly just enjoy a classic warm blue + reddish-brown mix any time :D though I've been loving ultramarine blue + manganese violet for clouds and I think mixes of two colours that both granulate are worth exploring

I'm so happy RS has half pans now! I have the original travel set plus about a million full pans and I kind of wanted to add a few more colours to it plus replace Some that I've used up (aka aquarius green, layer it, it makes an amazing characterful black). Not all the colours are in half pans but a fair number are from what I could see. Oh I've have my travel tin for ages and it's still going strong. Also if you do any water sketches try ocean!!

What a nice little set! I found this underrated granulating mix from potters pink & cobalt green to be a fun one! It made some kind of transparent brown mixture with greener undertones! I used it once for a background but I want to try and experiment with it again. From this set, I like the Aquarius green the best, but I do love some good green

The artist chosen for that box and selection is part of the Urban Sketchers Toronto group. I took a workshop with Marek this past weekend as part of the USK symposium. We got swag bags and he organized a set of 5 colours that he uses to give out to everyone. Love it! I had 3 of the colours already but one of them is Aquarius Green and I use that a lot.

I had to smile when you said that you love sap green and Payne’s grey. I have them in almost every palette because I think they’re a must for me. Looking at this palette, the Aquarius green is lovely and I need it. I love to mix yellow ochre and ultramarine but I suspect many people do it. When I saw the quin magenta in this palette I was shocked. I wonder if it was added to mix with the blue sky or ultramarine blue to make kind of moody skies, different pavement shades or even shade for walls of buildings. You could play around with adding more blue or adding more magenta to see what you get. Thank you for sharing this palette and the news of half pans coming. I don’t know if I will make it through a no buy month but I will start again. Take care

Oooo! New paints!!! How fun is that! And the best bit is, that I already have most of the colours, except for buff titanium, because I might have ( or not) gone and bought some R.S. colours after watching a video on this channel ( guess which 😂) We share the same philosophy towards the art supplies - if you are afraid to use something, no matter the reason why, just buy more of the same. And it works 😁! Which reminds me, I think I saw a D.S. watercolor ground in one of your hauls, and I am wondering if you had a chance to use it? And if you have, would you consider making a video on the topic? No pressure,if you are not interested in doing it, it's just that I came into watercolour from graphite and coloured pencils, and I have lots of paper for that media ( and very little for watercolour),so I was wondering if that would be possible to use up that paper with the help of watercolour ground for watercolour... To answer your question - I used to hate viridian, until I started to get more into colour mixing, and now I love it! Thank you and hope you are having a good day!

Great gorgeous bright colors for landscapes, urban sketching, & fantastic for adding more half pans. My favorite new unrated color is Quinacridone Magenta because of using for sunsets, skin tones (mixed with Buff Titanium), mixing with Ultramarine Blue for purples, & great lightfastness. Love RS French Ochre and Dark Ochre and can't seem to live without Cobalt Sea Blue. So happy to see this post. I just got this palette for Christmas and love it. I was especially excited when i heard that half pans were coming out and you showed that the tin would fit 21. Paint in Hiding posted that ultramarine pink was available on Jackson's and I saw other colors offered so grabbed some more half pans (hansa yellow deep, pyrrole rubine, aquarius grey, and some earth colors) and a full pan of their new color Autumn Green...there goes my money! ha Thank you for your post!

I'm late to catching up with this, so late... great video. I sort of discovered blues and orange as a great mix to fabulous greys last year. A favourite mix would be cerulean with a touch of something like TPO. You get a fab granulating sky grey. I used to hate an orange on my palette, but now I'm excited when I get one. I must be having a snr moment as I can't work put what mvp is??? 😆 This palette by RS looks so enticing, i might just weaken! 🎨 🖌 ❤

@@SketchesnScrubs snap! Lol…while I adore PR122 magenta, it’s a reach for urban sketching, so I added a perm alizarin …their version is a single pigment and lovely, and a Cerulean…I just can’t get into the white mix pigments but I’ll give it a go! Now I feel more content with the colours. The tin is fab that it takes a third row. I hate how the modern tins have made this space so narrow. Happy painting 🖼️ 🎨 ❤️

Oh my, will have to add that little travel palette to my wish list for when my no-buy ends! The 12 colours they selected are quite lovely, although, I’d probably switch out the bright pink for another colour. I could live with the sap green light and probably would keep that one, but would definitely prefer the regular sap green. An underrated colour? I’m not sure it’s underrated but I love using Geothite in landscapes (I have the DS version). Love the painting you did from the course! I really enjoy following tutorials, sometimes I need something relaxing like that so I don’t have to figure everything out on my own, but can still learn and get the “brush mileage”. I have a sub for Skillshare for the year, when that expires, I’ll check out Domestika!

@Brit Brat I was intrigued by prussian green since I adore prussian blue, but I never got it to try it. I would prefer to get it in a tube. that way, I can set it in multiple palettes if I like. I like to make smaller palettes, up to 20 or so paints. I rotate my palettes and use all my professional paints almost equally.

Am I tripping or did these just go up in price? Disappointing as I've been wanting to get more for a while and only have a couple colors. The couple I have though are absolutely beautiful. I wish they sold tubes. Part of the appeal is the quality AND price combined. I hope they keep their prices below brands like DS and schmincke etc.
