Very informative, thank you! How does this work in relation to CMDB health staleness? Does this replace staleness detection and handling or should we be looking at using Data Manager for archiving and deletion while handling staleness via staleness tasks and workflows?
We will be re-factoring the health dashboards into this under the new CMDB Workspace. Watch for our new Governance section where we not only report on these issues, but take action and remediate issues like stale data or duplicate in our policies.
How can we update the recipient list for data management task review notification? I want to exclude some users those are getting notification for dependent ci deletion task review
Does 'Managed By Group' have to be populated in order to do data archiving? What about in an MSP situation where you may have individuals (as opposed to teams) managing specific CIs for a company, in which case we would only have 'Managed by' populated, as opposed to '...Group'?
Curious as to what happens to a CIs relationship if retired, archived or deleted using Data Manager? Do you just get orphaned relationships on the CMBD Health dashboard?
When a CI is retired no change is made to any relationships since the CI record still exists in the CMDB. When a CI is archived or deleted any relationships between the CI and other CIs will be removed.
In the condition I want to retire Dbs that sit on a server that is decommed/retired . what is the logic I shoud use . Cant seem to find the parent server relationship ?
Retirement will mark the lifecycle to retired, that's basically it. Archive will move the data to an archive table, where it is subject to archive management of the platform. It can also be restored relatively easily. More about the platform archiving capability is here: docs.servicenow.com/bundle/rome-platform-administration/page/administer/database-rotation/concept/c_ArchiveData.html
Tasks (e.g. Incident) referencing an archived CI will have the reference field value converted to a string value. Archiving leverages standard platform archiving, so if you need to view the archived CI record you can use the string value to search the archive table. Note that Data Manager will not archive or delete CIs with active tasks.
I am in the CMDB Data Manager form view but do not see the "New" option next to the cmdb_data_manager_policy_and_attributes , do I need a specific role for this ?( as in video at 2.49mis.)
