Back in June, we took our brand new 2023 Kenworth W900B cab & chassis to ‪@NRCIndustries‬ to be fitted with a 65ton Composite Sliding Rotator. Once checked in at NRC, it will head over to ‪@simardengineering‬ to be set up to a twin steer configuration. Watch as we give a brief truck tour before it heads out to Quebec for its awesome transformation!

i live in montreal about an hour from st paul d abbotsford, quebec where nrc is. im surprised ur travelling that far . dont they have a manufacturer in ohio or in another state closer to ohio.

There are pretty much 3 main manufacturers of heavy tow trucks/ rotators. Each manufacture has their own unique design, and we just prefer NRC (we have used NRC equipment since the early 90s). So yes, there are other manufacturers closer, but in the grand scheme of things NRC really isn't that far from us considering they sell equipment all over the US, Canada, and overseas.

So what made you choose to stick with NRC and not go with a miller 1175?
@WilcoxGarageRecovery
@WilcoxGarageRecovery Год назад
I've been running NRC equipment as long as I have been in the business, and their slider system for the boom makes them so much more versatile (in my opinion). We have never really had any big problems with any of them we have ever owned, so don't see any reason to change. The controls are pretty much standardized among the NRC heavies, so it's easy for us to transition between truck to truck, and subsequently be more efficient.

It has something, such an empty chassis. I look forward with excitement to how the build-up will take place. Exciting! This project has everything to become your showpiece.

It is definitely a long process from start to finish, but the finished product will be amazing for sure!

What is the rust preventative product used on the underside? It looks more solid than a lanolin-based (Fluid Film) wax.
@WilcoxGarageRecovery
@WilcoxGarageRecovery Год назад
It's made by ZEP, and yes it does solidify to a robust wax coating. Maybe we will include it in one of the videos of the dump truck build while we coat the frame. Here is the link below for the product. zep.com/products/ironclad-136535

That old crane truck in the end of the video set a lot of trusses for me when I was in the building business. I saw it on 2 different truck chassis’s. And the operator was second to none . 👍
@WilcoxGarageRecovery
@WilcoxGarageRecovery Год назад
It certainly did, and Steve knew the crane like no other. The crane has been on 3 different chassis, but unfortunately for today's standards it's obsolete (even though everything still works on it). We finally made the decision to put this chassis to use as a dump truck for larger wrecks and other tasks around the shop. Hopefully we can find a new home for the crane, for someone that has a use for it.

Damn Beautiful looking Truck cant wait and see when it is finished a 50 ton and a 65 ton you got some mighty lifting and pulling power in your arsenal or HD wreckers .... also can wait to see what your next video looks like lifting an old Crane Truck
@WilcoxGarageRecovery

2 rotators will definitely make recoveries a lot easier and more efficient! We have been busy converting one of our old cranes to a dump truck...something that will better suit us on recoveries now 👍🏻

Is the twin steer axle mainly for weight distribution, or does it have other advantages? It looks like it will be an amazing build! Best of luck with it!
@WilcoxGarageRecovery
@WilcoxGarageRecovery Год назад
Thanks! Yes, weight distribution and another axle for braking power. Most of the 65ton rotators weigh in the neighborhood of 20,500 lbs on the steer axle with the cheater axle lowered (or around 23,000 with the cheater up). The turning radius of a twin steer is also supposed to be shorter than a single steer.

Will this one be added to make two swingers in the fleet?
@WilcoxGarageRecovery

Yes, this will give us 2 rotators to make tractor trailer accidents go a lot smoother, faster, and safer.

WOW that is a great looking truck. Not trying to be rude but I can guess you guys are gonna have a few pay check in that when it's done. Might I suggest an automatic chassis lube system. Saves alot of time when it comes to your service intervals
@WilcoxGarageRecovery
@WilcoxGarageRecovery Год назад
Yes, the prices have certainly went way up since our 50 ton was built almost 6 years ago! We already ordered an automatic greaser (it was an option) for the slide mechanism on the rotator bed. It would be nice to get one for the chassis if there's enough room, but if not maybe at least a remote grease setup with distribution blocks for all of the steering components.
