Hi Stu, I fitted the touring seats but reverted to oem for the front seat as I found it more comfy than the touring item. The original feels slightly larger, softer and does not lift me a cm or two - all of which I prefer. The touring back seat (and touring pegs) have remained as my wife prefers them. I have also fitted a heel/toe shifter which I think suits this easy going motorcycle. I love my Classic 350, more smiles per miles.
Hello Peter. Is your heel/toe shifter a Royal Enfield part? If so, part # please. I see so many videos from India having them on the showroom floor models. Thank you.
Thanks for the informative reply, my regular pillion passenger may appreciate this too, in regards to the heel toe shifter, my bike came with one, took me a little while to get used to it, but now I absolutely love it, highly recommended AND doesn’t scuff up my leather Paton shoes when on my Distinguished Gentleman’s Rides!
My grandfather had a garage like that in Boston, USA. It was a dark, mushy treasure trove of tools. paint and spare parts! Nice choice in seats and color!
Thanks a lot, especially for the tipp regarding the wax protection - I surely would have forgotten to do it without your video. Best regards from Mainz, Germany
I fitted the 'low ride' seat from RE, not because I need a lower seat, but because I liked the look of it. it is firmer than the original but ridiculously comfortable. Fitted the cosmetic springs too. I have removed the pillion seat (never carry a pillion) and fashioned a carrier from the frame. Looks quite nice in my opinion. Lovely jubbly!
Hi, I've tried the original seat, Touring seat and the low profile and I think the low profile the most comfortable.1500Km with the touring seat and my bottom did not like it at all.I like you fitted springs and removed the pillion seat etc. Stu regarding the fitting of the springs you do not need to remove the rear mudguard if you use 2 regular bolts and a ratchet spanner 👍. I've also fitted the sump guard which again I would suggest you use some grease on the Allen bolts as you will need to remove these each time you do an oil change. Other additions are a chain oiler which discreetly sits near the fnt brake reservoir.Have also fitted RE pannier frames available in black or chrome. Used the lge Lomo panniers as preview by Stu and they fitted excellent when touring with my partner with no problems 👍.
Been meaning to get the Low Rider seat. May I ask for a long term review comparison between the low rider vs stock seat in terms of comfortability after riding a couple of hours?
To be honest, I've never tried the original seat, so I cannot offer a valid comparison. I've spent many a long hour on the low seat and find it very comfortable. However, you should try both as I've heard complaints about the comfort of the low-rider seat from others. I am in India, otherwise you'd be welcome to try mine. Good luck.
The touring seat looks great on that bike. I am glad that RE used shouldered hardware on this bike. I think it looks more finished. I am really happy to see that they have welded bolt tubes in to the frame so that the bolt holes do not become a moisture entry point in to the frame.
I love the new seats. Think they'd be a worthwhile addition to my classic. Great to see how they're fitted and it looks like a straightforward DIY job. Shame about the weather this past week. Can't wait for a bit of sunshine to keep up with the running-in. Maybe I'll catch you through south cave, etc. Keep safe P.
Hi Stu, good video and explains clearly the seat fitting method as a lot of bikes today are simply turn a key and remove. Also I agree that your method looks very sensible as opposed to RE’s. Great tip to rust proof any area that you wouldn’t normally access. In the past I’ve always also put something on the bolts, nuts, screws etc. depending on what’s to hand, variously LM/Graphited/Lithium based grease, WD40 or GT85! Also useful on threads particularly if they are different metals or alloys to prevent corrosion between the threads - I still have an impact driver somewhere!
Great video, thank you so much for this, bought the same brown seat plus the rear rack for my 2022 RE350, Halcyon Grey - much higher quality and look - and yes, a bit of a bugger to line up the rear pillion with the grab rail, but all good - you made it easy for me - thanks again & Cheers from Canada, Ronny
Aside from the promise of increased comfort, just how much better does that look with the pleats rather than the fairly dull looking standard seats! Interesting to see the spring fitting video. Lovely bike by the way!
Happy Birthday Robert, from Philippines! Nice presentation Stuart and your way looks to be substantially easier than the RE way, with the added bonus of being able to easily do rust prevention at the same time. Personally, I think the touring seat looks far nicer than the OE, but the proof of the pudding, etc; looking forward to your assessment.
Thanks Stu. A most useful video for future reference. They're a lot darker brown than the standard brown on my Classic by the looks, which I like. Shame rain interrupted play, darn it!
OMG, me bikes got wet!!....I remember this happening a short time after I'd spent ages cleaning and polishing my pride and joy.....Now. I don't own any foul weather gear, thats a big saving on ones finances...A important consideration for we retirees. Like your American viewer I enjoy the rides through the Yorkshire countryside....What Jay Leno refers to as ''Going for a Ride''....Greeting from España
Hi there Uncle Stu. My Friend and i both came across your channel 2 years ago and we chat about your comments and rides etc. He has bought an Interceptor and a red frame Bullet. His GF has a new Meteor. I would like a 350 in red and chrome. We have noticed your little pocket knife and would love a few secconds of close up or a little chat about it. If you think it is not PC then ok but im sure a lot of other people would also find it interesting. Thanks for all you do. Im sure RE must be at least a little grateful to you too.
They do look good Stu, looking forward to the ride review, my regular pillion passenger would welcome a more comfortable ride, any chance you can get an experienced pillion passenger on board to give their comments? The roads here in Nepal aren’t as smooth as other places in the world so any rider comfort improvements would be very good to hear about! Keep up the great work, monsoon is about to start here so I sympathize with your predicament during filming!
Hi Uncle Stu- interesting video! I fitted that touring seat system to my Bullet 500 and it looks great. wasn't too much of a hassle, but I'm always surprised how sturdy those RE structural components are made. one can tell those bikes were/are produced to be used as actual transport in the home market.
I'm in the middle of rebuilding my seat on my 2011 Triumph America. I'm no upholsterer, but I feel like I can pull this job off. Wish me luck. Another great video Stuart, thanks. God bless, and ride safe. BTW. I like your pocket knife, what kind is it? I prefer Case xx, or Boker Tree Brand.
Great video Stu, the seat looks great, but I’m interested as to why Enfield, and many other manufacturers, don’t provide a pillion seat big enough for a pillion! Back in the 70s/80s the passenger had as much room (well almost) as the rider and things were fine, but nowadays it’s a perch which a kid would struggle to sit on with both cheeks on the seat. I feel the Classic would look better with two seats like the riders, and ditch the grab rail; does anyone actually use one? Anyway keep up the great work, and ride safe 👍🏻
Nice and clear there Unc Stu! Just wondering if the 350 rear subframe is similar to the 500? Just curious to see if the rack/pannier frames you gave on the 500 will fit the 350? Be nice if they do! I’m seriously considering buying a 350.
Nice job uncle Stu let’s hope you managed a few miles by now Hitchcocks told me I had to remove the Mudguard to fit the springs seems a bit over kill then I heard you can use a cut down Hallam key to fit them You will sort it out 👍
They do look a lot nicer than the stock seats. Your background music gotten a bit loud at times in this one close to the level of your voice track or maybe it's me. Cheers
Stuart , with all those how to and where to buy vids , i wonder how we managed in the age of no cell phone no internet just a phone book at home , crap my age is showing when one says i repaired my own bike
Nice. So RE is actually capable of producing a good looking seat afterall. Why don't they do this for the 650? I think the video was great Stewart, it was quite instructional. I like that you point out the things one would have to watch for.
If I get one def tempted to get the rear seat removed n not sure re a windshield. I quite like the look of a windshield....on my 125 have noticed quite a bit of buffeting (wintery days mostly). Happy bday Mr Jennings in Texas am a bday boy today. P.s Was thinking re the Scram with a custom exhaust? Saw the Tiger rally 1200 today in the flesh wow what a bike.
Hi Stu, i've been meaning to ask for ages - where did you get your bike chain bracelet? My cousin had one in the 70s - he was my best man and sadly died a few years ago and want to get one in his memory
Have you dismounted a tire to repair a flat? I could not break the bead on the rear wheel of my Interceptor. Much to my chagrin I had to have a shop break it down and replace the tube. Sure this has nothing to do with the seats or the Classic, but I thought this would be the easiest way to recommend a video subject.
Hi, great video! Can i fix them on my Classic 500, even with some Little modifications by any canche? I'm looking for more confortable seats in Brown but can't find any
I love the look of this bike, and would prefer it to the other first bike choices, like scooters, dual sports, and small sport bikes. However, at 6ft tall, I find myself sitting back half on the pillion pad. Does anyone know of a solution? Different bars or seat?
A very thorough video as always. I was actually curious about the decorative springs, being the sprung seat something I'd miss if I owned the new Classic. It looks like it's harder to get rid of the pillion seat for solo riders, too, isn't it? Thanks.
@@BobfmBali Thank you - good to know it slides off clean without leaving holes in the mudguard to be dealt with. Too bad for the missing (real) springs though.
Just for looks, these are OK, but I like the stock seats better. And I don’t think I would like the piping under my legs. I do like the dark brown color.
I thought the touring front seat should be mounted with springs like the Classic 500. Now I have doubts about the springs I saw somewhere as an acessoire. Are they only for stylish purposes?
Hi, i also installed touring seats, it's going 5 months to my bike but I'm having issue with it, in front seat that seat spring coming out, and it going to cut seat cover soon.. where should I go???. Showroom saying that it's your first case happened there. I hope you gonna reply me soon 🙂
Hello Stuart, I took delivery of my Classic 350 on 23rd Sep and I am keen to fit the Touring seat, if I have missed a follow up my apologises but is the Touring seat comfortable and is it higher than the standard seat?, thanks.
I regularly tour in very average conditions 2up and with 40kg of luggage, the 350 has heaps of torque and some of the hills around here (Everest, Annapurna, etc.) are quite steep and we have no issues.
Really like the videos and watched them all nearly, it’s helped me decide that I want a royal Enfield probably a classic 350. It will be my first bike as I’ve had Vespa’s and Lambrettas for many years but decided to finally get a bigger bike. Keep up the good work.
Hi Stuart have you checked out Ride with Woro he has a couple of videos about fitting the seat springs to the new classic 350 could clarify the process somewhat ,love the content of your channel regards Kev 👍
Yippeee... my Classic 350 is coming in sometime this month but the dealership had some come in and gave me a call to come and sit on them but these were already pre-sold. So here I wait.
Beautiful into. I'd like to watch a video made of shots like that, same sort of music and nothing else would be needed. Something like a tribute video to the Classic 350? Not complaining about the rest of the video but a compliment to how enjoyable the introduction is; I'd watch 15 minutes of just that just fine.
Great vid just about to change seats so very much appreciated, have to add only just purchased my 350 classic and enjoying every ride, have come from sports bikes lol
