Heyo, thanks for checking it out! I'm really excited to play/see more of the game, it feels great to just play already! Make sure to check out the kickstarter and steam wishlist links (steam link may take a few hours from announcement to show up for everyone just FYI).
Wait wait wait. RootCatz is the Multiplayer lead, and Giant Grant Games is the Campaign mission lead? No goddam way, how does that even work?!? This is going to be absolutely phenominal. How on earth did they get so far into production like this already though, it looks amazing!
I think GGG is a great indicator of why there needs to be 2 different achievement metrics: One for expected play or "above the requirement" moments. I think SC2 does these fairly well and is what is expected from a game maker. Then, the "exceptionally beyond" type of achievements, with things nobody should be expected to actually do, like completing entire game categories within various amounts of time, or pacifist runs. That way, people like Grant can do his crazy shenanigans (all still with 100% completion) without having to be worried about "extra" achievements causing intersecting challenges within the same run.
Man. You have no idea what passionate nutjobs can make in secret. An australian (or maybe it was a kiwi) basically made a Ace Combat clone by himself. And it's FANTASTIC (project wingman). There's BAR, which is a ridiculously good TA spiritual successor. And then there's the COUNTLESS amounts of mods for games you've probably never even heard of. Or I haven't heard of.
@@orangedream267 BAR is actually strange to me. There is a game called Zero-K and BAR is like an upgrade/downgrade from it (depends on perspective, BAR has less terraforming fun for me). The same engine, same graphics, same mechanics, same style, same gameplay but less insane
@@nikitosha1000 Right, zero-k too. As far as terra forming... BAR you can only really do it with glorious nuclear fire. I suspect BAR will eventually go the zero k route, and put different types of missiles in the tac missile launcher.
@@orangedream267 Terraforming is the most fun when paired with pushing-pulling turrets. You can make a ramp with properly placed turrets and create some kind of sling/catapult for units. Nuclear rockets can be shot down with anti-nuclear rockets, while support commanders with nuclear explosive upgrade can not xD
Wow, this is so exciting! TWO major RTS projects from grassroots movements, looking to dethrone the old, worn out franchises that refuse to innovate. I hope the Stormgate team are not disheartened by this reveal, and instead step up to face this new challenger. An RTS arms race is exactly what this genre needs. ❤
There's like 10 different and unrelated RTS in development that have been announced at the moment, and who knows how many are yet to be revealed? Also, Desynced (mix between Factorio and Starcraft 2) released a few days ago, if you're interested.
My thoughts about the gameplay: - The "pew pew" of commandos shooting is honestly so satisfying, really gives an oomph to stutter stepping with them. - The UI looks so incredibly clean, can already tell it's less intimidating than SC2's (which is a very important thing to get new players to actually play) - The units are incredibly cool, and I like the focus on micro that these fights have. The abilities feel very impactful and not having to tab between units will make mixing casters into your comp a lot easier. All in all, I'm incredibly impressed. The way this game handles many mechanics feels like it's a step beyond the current "classics". It all feels very intuitive and easy to use compared to the current big RTS games, and it already has a high-quality feel to it despite being in pre-alpha. I think we might be looking at the big one, the RTS that breaks the curse. Of course, having all these names attached to it is like the gift that keeps on giving. Scarlett in charge of balance and GGG in charge of the campaign design... it makes me incredibly confident in this game.
" It all feels very intuitive ", totally agree. I never played this game and still I can understand what each unit do during the battle (much better than stormgate)
There seem to be a LOT of people involved in this. I'm not sure how many devs an indie game usually has but they pulled a lot of people in. I hope everyone has their own lanes to swim in, otherwise I can see a lot of strong personalties just creating a mess of a game. Looks great though! (way better than anything Icegiant has shown).
Before watching: Well, I looked at the cast they gathered and while the pedigree of CatZ, PiG, and Scarlett is awesome in terms of multiplayer, seeing Grant and Maguro there gives me confidence that the campaign and co-op wouldn't be an afterthought. Their Kickstarter page has their roles very clearly defined (CatZ seems to be like versus mode on a macro level, while Scarlett would be on unit-by-unit balance), with perhaps CatZ, PiG, and Scarlett working together, while Grant and Maguro would have some co-op overlap. I just saw the victory screen, and it has Maguro's fingerprints all over it.
So here I thought Stormgate was going to be the last great hope for RTS. Then you go and roll this out, and it looks great! Honestly I think I might be more excited for ZeroSpace than Stormgate now.
I am hoping this game comes to fruition. I have spend thousands of hours on Starcraft 2, especially the Coop, too bad Blizzard is now moving to Pay to win or life services like Diablo Immortal or Overwatch 2.
Activision-"Blizzard" dont really deserve name of the deceased studio, not much of original Blizzard left and no one in leadership positions. Merge with common greedy corporation was fatal mistake for such diamond of game industry as old Blizzard.
Holy i was slighty disappointed with stormgate but this looks like what i was waiting for. Actually insane looking game with an absolutely stacked team behind it.
Stormgate just failed to wow. Alpha footage was very lackluster then bam. Pre alpha with game play zerospace comes in and shows stormgate that hey we look way better and have fleshed out alot more.
@@puffman06 yeah, okay isn't exactly wow factor. I think stormgate devs relied way too much on name alone and not enough on getting something good out. Or rushed it to meet a deadline
@@Villiscaband1 sure but zerospace looks just okay to me too, i'm not sure why people think this looks way better than stormgate or anything.. this game looks like a 2005 version of dune 2
I love Starcraft and I always will, but it's good to see how the RTS genre is renewed and developed to reach more audiences. Another thing that I liked from what I saw is that some mechanics were made more accessible to new players, not forgetting the pros, having at your disposal all the abilities of the troops you selected, instead of just one and having Than searching for the other skills with a key shortcut in which you have that specific unit saved, seems like an excellent decision to me. That and other small details that I noticed seemed quite interesting to me.
how does this game already look so good?! this is your alpha?! I don't think I've been so excited for a game in a very long time. As of writing this comment, the kick starter has just blown past its goal, and I'm freaking stoked man.
i'm surprisingly excited about this. they really chose a good time to show it off with it being this polished already. that's pretty damn good as it is.
One thing hat does intrigue me is the galactic conquest sort of thing they're doing for the campaign. I would kill for StarCraft BW to have had something like that. I do like how the battle tends to spread out too, it's not a giant clump of stuff stomping on another clump and everything dies in 0.2 seconds, they really did take positioning seriously so far, and I'm actually slightly impressed.
00:53 when they said they were inspired by the ME trilogy and this totally not Mordin Solus appeared they had me, one of my favorite companions in ANY RPG.
Reminds me of a blend between Warcraft 3 and Command and Conquer but with Starcraft art design and influences. Honestly for Pre-alpha this is looking really good.
The mercenary factions feel like Emperor: Battle for Dune with 3 main Houses and a few subhouses that any major house could pick. I loved that game and I feel like I'll love this one too.
From what I can see the game has no toolbox, meaning that there is no easy way to mod it or to make user created content. It's good to see that it has a campaign and isn't just an pitch at the e-sports end of the market, but without UCC I can't see it doing well in the long-term.
The two things I wish Starcraft had, from my experience playing other games... From Earth2016: Unit/army customization and combination. From anything with a decent branching story: Choices that matter in the Campaign If this manages to capture the feeling of SC and include those two things in some manner... hubba hubba! There is one concern I have, and its the graphics. Not in terms of processing power, but in terms of visibility. As things get smoother, less gritty, they can be harder and harder to pick apart at a glance. Especially for people with some degree of colorblindness (like me). This is especially the case when it comes to "team colors" in my experience. A graphics mode that still looks good but emphasises ease of visibility would be out-standing. I loved Starcraft's lore. Lore means so much to me from an immersion standpoint. I hope they cook up something good!!
18 hours later, I see the video by giant grant gaming, I see your video, I go to the Kickstarter to help fund. The game is already at 143.600€ making it go above the 100k asked and going straight towards the stretch goal, I become an Stellar Warlord. Life is good. I'm excited to see where the game goes :3
winter presenting a new RTS, man I am gonna buy this shit, for me as a casual gamer but in love with RTS, you are one of the best content creator on RTS games, if not the best the goat of the youtuber. for a lot of us you are a hero. I always regretted you could not make it to pro. I would have cheer for you for sure ^^, thanks for the video ;) well now about the game, man it's look so DOPE ^^ is there a way to try it? How? i am so hype about this ! more than frost giant game
One guy's thought on art style: It looks OK and if it shipped like this I wouldn't hold it against them. However, it does look relatively low budget. I think a cel-shaded art style would be amazing and possibly not too expensive/gpu intense. Cel-shade when done right is downright beautiful.
Sometimes you just know a slam dunk when you see one. This looks like the slam dunk. Winter knows it. I can see he knows it. I can't tell if it will be a commercial mega hit, but it's going to be the RTS of the decade. Mark my words.
Aren't we all more excited by this? Was there really anyone hyped by Microtransactiongate? Not gonna lie but the best case I was hoping for in F2Pgate was to have something different from-, but not even surpassing SC2 in many areas.
Very nice to see the unified command bar. Not nearly enough RTS's do it. It's not like it's a new idea, it's just... hardly ever used. There's too many RTS's that think the UI is one of the player's enemies to be fought, it's nice to see one that appears to think otherwise...
I can say, I like location capture. Starcraft 2 had what, vision towers? Those didn't mean all that much. Mineral fields? A lot of the maps gave you a safe natural, so you only really needed a third base and you were set. Dawn of War and some others put a lot more emphasis on securing locations, and I think that's good for strategy games as it cuts down on the impact of deathballs. I kind of like the mercenary idea, because in Starcraft 2 you ended up with a large amount of time where Protoss was just stuck defending against Zerg, because nothing they had was fast enough. They added Adepts to try to fill that role a bit, but I'm still not convinced they actually filled that role well enough. This could let people adjust per match-up, but I'm also afraid that if not balanced right they could cause greater imbalance, especially with the tech tree upgrades they come with. It'll be interesting to see. I'm ok with Heroes as long as they're not like Warcraft 3's where they dominate the focus. It's definitely very Starcraft influenced. I'll be keeping an eye on it.
As a die hard sc2 fan this scratched the itch stormgate couldn't quite reach. This being pre-alpha is more polished and responsive than most games at launch. Such an amazing job from developers!!!
Between this and Frost Giant, I'm so excited that RTS lives on. With the steep cliff that Actiblizz has fallen off in the last 5-10 years I find it hard to hold on to hope for a new StarCraft or WarCraft game that would set the same sort of quality standards of their predecessors
Looks great! Seems fun and memorable so far. Hope they will go a bit more **out there** with some of the late-game unit ideas (like battlecruisers or thors in SC2 - maybe flying dragons like in WC3 or something for some other faction) For some reason, this looks quite a bit more appealing than Stormgate. Wish the devs all the best! Also, the huge balls on them to let people play it (and let them release footage). Props, because that's not often seen nowadays.
You can smell the Starcraft and yet I feel the Halo Wars vibe. UI looks smooth AND you can customize it? Overhead view fair distance. Does high/low ground exist? I'm aroused. Let us know how you feel after playing a bit more many, well at least one, people respect your reviews knowing your bias to good games.
Love the colors, the hole estetic is great, i can really apreciate that even tho there seems to be a hole lot of diferents units, each one has a very distintive shape unique enogh so i can clearly see what is what in the field. Really wanna play it
This game looks absolutely insane! I haven't touched an RTS in YEARS but I could see myself pick this game up. It also removed so many of the annoying things I hate about conventional RTS games where you have to micromanage your workers to farm minerals. Holy crap I'm stoked for this game...
It looks really promising, and it's amazing all they have already in a pre-alpha phase! I've decided to support them also in kickstarter, I'd love to see more and play this game.
I was never a fan of starcraft multiplayer. Was always a warcraft 3 multiplayer player. But with hero units in multiplayer this looks exciting and i hope the actions per minute wont matter in this game.
it genuinely looks like a really really fun game. I've been kinda doomer on most of the RTS games that have some out for the last few years but I'm excited to get my hands on this one.
Had to stop watching half way in to run errands, when I resumed viewing it took me a solid 20 seconds to realize I wasn't watching Starcraft. I'd say that's a pretty good sign.
And Grant being here meaning that the campaign is gonna be awesome and probably a Map Editor in the Future if his video about RTS genre is to be referenced! :D
