In some states, your employer has to allow you time to vote on election day, by law. That said, it's not perfect, and the entire thing is a complex issue. (Edited to stop redundant comments from people who aren't reading the thread.)

We should have an entire election week and be patient enough to wait for results.

appnp I don’t know really how it works, or doesn’t as the case may be, in your country, but in Canada, I received my voting card for the last federal election, and it listed all of the polling stations nearby to my address. And, I’m sure in this day and age there is a website or app available. You need to vote for your own sake, but this nonsense is affecting other countries too.

Cat-my state is doing all mail in ballots this time so I'm not worried for myself. Just areas where people are being denied mail-in ballots or where folks have to wait all day long in line to vote because they only have one polling place in their town or city. So they might do something like give up and go home before voting. That's all. Thanks for the snarkiness though.

It is staggering. I do all my business by email. The only mail I get is unsolicited and one per month from the VA. The rest is tossed. The apartment has a trash bin in the mail room and everyday it's filled by the tenants. Who is going to miss them if we could sign away their delivery, certainly not the aging mail carrier.

Have you ever been inside a post office? It doesn't quite work that way. (Besides, why do you think Dejoy demoted or transferred 2 dozen Post Office supervisory personnel? He wanted to be sure they would not be in a position to make it possible to determine the priority of mailed in ballots.) There is a reason why you normally get the most junk mail 1 day a week, every week, and on that same day almost no personal mail...that is all determined at a very high level in the USPS. My guess is, as a loyal Chump supporter, Dejoy will do everything possible to give mail in ballots the LOWEST possible priority at local post offices.

I think it best to get as many people as possible to distrust the system, so they will take their ballots straight to the address they are posted to. We all need to call our local officials and demand ballot drop-boxes at local town offices. We also should demand that no ballot is cancelled until it is proven invalid.

The USPS has been a failing company for almost 20 years. If money alone could solve it, it would have corrected itself years ago. Ihatefracking - The problem is that there is much less incentive for state actors to use a brute-force hack to steal your tax returns than for them to steal an election. Accordingly, since the primary hackers in a tax return situation are private individuals, protection need not be as high to be successful. I am not sure that the protection we have is sufficient to block a nefarious state actor.

I work for the post office and it’s funny how no one cared about us until this election. And still with everyone talking about the mail it seems no one still has any idea what is going on with the postal service. Bill wants everyone to stop sending mail. Yet that’s how we make our money. And as far as throwing away sorting machines to make room for parcels to be shipped because that’s how we get paid mostly now because like bill pointed out use the internet to pay your bills instead of mailing your bills is exactly why the postoffice is shifting from letter sorting machines to machines to send parcels. To try and stay in business. But as soon as election is over no one will care about the post office again.

America is one of the few countries not to have a national holiday for voting. Even rarer, we have it on a workday. In many countries voting is mandatory by law, though rarely is it enforced. The point is that most countries do everything they can to increase voter turnout, but the opposite is true in America.

In my country we have a system where you can opt out for junk mail by placing a sticker on your mailbox. I did that years ago. Earlier this year our city council announced a trial where you have to opt-in for junk mail. If you want to receive it you have to put a sticker on your mailbox. With the opt-out system 80% of addresses in our apartment building received junk mail. With the opt-in system this went down to 35%. Which saves a lot of paper.

Just for the month of October. By the time the reduced volume numbers come through in November, the ballots would have been submitted, then all of the junk mail can resume.
