Disclaimer: Working with LP Gas is very dangerous and should be performed by a qualified technician. Make sure the gas is off and purged from the lines. This article/video is for educational purposes only and should not be taken as instructional. I’m not a qualified LP Gas Technician. If you decide to do the same mod I’ve done here, research and beware of the risks. Have it checked out by a professional. I accept no liability. You have been warned!
In this video, I swap out our 12-year-old Atwood RV stove/oven for a brand-new Furrion stove. New features will include oven light, knob lighting, oven remote lighting via sparked, and windowed oven door.
Installation was relatively straightforward, with only one LP gas connection and 2 wires for the 12V power. The new stove slide right in place of the old one. Physical dimensions were virtually identical.
Due to the different gas connection locations, I had to cut and flare the 3/8ths copper pipe and run new wires for the 12V hookup. But both tasks went smoothly. Finally, I leak-checked the new stive using a gas sniffer, bubble fluid, and a manometer.
Stay tuned. In about a month or two from now, I'll be back with my full review, letting you know how the stove performed compared to the old one. Any likes and dislikes.

Think I will trade in my BBQ lighter for an installed lighter after watching how good yours worked. I just bought a really nice range for one of my rentals and it was quite a bit cheaper than yours , it’s amazing how anything with RV on it seems to double the price. Take Care and keep enjoying life 😉 !

We have in our motorhome a Furrion cooktop with three inline burners. Trouble is you can’t use all the burners at the same time because there is not enough space for three pots. Luckily we don’t have to use three pots most of the time. Another issue with our cooktop are the rubber bushings the two pins on each of the three grates push into wear out fast. At first Furrion sent us replacements free but now they sell them. They are about $4 or higher each. Went to Ace Hardware and found some rubber grommets that are less than 50 cents. I prefer your design of cooktop with the three burners in a triangular shape. Wish Tiffin had gone with that design. We don’t have a propane oven just a convection microwave. We have a 8kw generator for using it when dry camping. Most of the time during the summer in dry campgrounds we use the grill outside and rarely use the generator. We’ve recently purchased a couple of induction cooktops. When in campsites with electric we use those to save on propane. I’ll have to try one with my lithiums to see how much power it draws. Boils water much faster.

Hi Ray, another great vid :-) Just a few comments from the newly retired Acadian on my first snowbird road trip and now boondocking at Gunsight wash.. The flair tool that you use is a one sided tool.. meaning the you should make the flair on the side where there is the biggest flair form. Compare one side to the other carefully and you'll see it. also I have similar stove, just diff model that is shorter and with the blue lights but not the red.. just letting you know that on my travel list I use a special blankie for the pizza stone.. just wrap the stone before departure, and when you go to use the stove next time, you'll see it while opening the door to look at the pilot. just my 2 cents.. hehe keep the great work and enjoy your "travelings" 😀👍

Thanks for the great video. I really think the control knobs lights glowing red when the burners are lit is a great safety feature. One suggestion you may want to make when providing your review to Lippert, is to have smooth burner caps which would make it easier to clean up any spills on the caps. If you spill something on the present burner caps, you have to clean around each of the F U R R I O N letters and it may be more difficult to clean if the spill has “baked on” the caps when they were being used.

Nice new and modern stove! - I have a similar 10 yr old Suburban without all the fancy lights. - Same oven pilot lighting issues... - It has the same glass top, and I rather like it from a counter space point of view, and It also shields heat away from the RV wall. - My RV kitchen counter is almost exactly like yours. - I use a similar (square) pizza stone that works quite well. - You might be able to just move your stone down to the bottom level of the oven when in transit - I don't think it will hit the glass from there. - Cheers!

Good video. Nice to see what is involved in pulling the old one, although I don't expect I'll be upgrading. I"m sure I would have just coiled up the extra copper line behind the stove, rather than cutting it. Looks like there is plenty of space for a coil of tubing. I added a spark igniter to the oven pilot a long time ago.

Nicely done. Our new range / oven has a striker as well. A camper I had clear back in the late 70's had one as well; but for some reason none of the ones since have ? Never really cared for lighting the oven with a lighter while on my hands & knees and head in the oven. If you just partially open the oven door and hold it to get the reflection just right you can remain standing & see the sparker light the pilot and see the flame. No need to get on your knees anymore. Did you use any Teflon tape at the connection where you had a bubble leak? Yes; the glass tops will break if you set them down if the burner grates are hot as well.
@LoveYourRV

The threads on a flare connection are different so you don't use Teflon tape. I read the tape may actually interfere with flare fitting seal compressing properly.

Nice upgrade. This is an upgrade I have considered for my own trailer, but have yet to do. I like the fact that you now have an oven door with a glass front so you can look in the oven without having to open the door and the oven sparker is a nice touch. One item I am curious about is when the range top is flush with the counter top, how large of a pot or pan can you put over the rear burners? On my current range (which is old enough that the range top is not flush with the counter top) I use the rear burner when frying as it gets the pan under the range hood so the grease and smoke mostly go outside. If I use the front burner for frying, that burner is really not under the range hood and most of the smoke stays inside the RV. I suspect that if my stove were flush with the counter top, I would not be able to use a frying pan on the rear burner. I would be interested to hear your experiences as you use your new stove. Also, will the oven actually come up to a high temprature and hold it? My current oven leaves a lot to be desired with dealing with high (say 450 degrees) tempratures.
@LoveYourRV
@LoveYourRV Год назад
Looks like about an 8" pan would be the max if centered on a rear burner. As for the fan I'm lucky and have a roof vent almost above the stove. It has a large vent fan install in it and when set to high can draw out a ton of air, so I use that versus the little range hood affair. I haven't tested the oven at 400F+ yet but did a great pork roast last nigh set at 375F. www.loveyourrv.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/pork-roast.jpg Cheers, Ray

All I think I will need is the sparker probe to attached to the pilot assembly. Thanks in advance.
@LoveYourRV
@LoveYourRV Год назад
I looked at doing that and had seen the mod online in some RV forums but was a little concerned about a sparker in the oven in case of gas build up on there from a leak. But now I see the manufactures doing it so guess my fear was unfounded.
@jerryhoxsey6467
@jerryhoxsey6467 Год назад
My same fear. But as you say, now manufactures are doing it. I can see the reflection of the pilot in the bottom of the oven, so with the door open when lighting I can monitor the flame. Was there anything in the manual of your new stove calling to ONLY use the oven sparker with the door open?

@LoveYourRV

Maybe its all the vibration RV takes or the manufactures are just cheap. :)
@sloweb1
@sloweb1 Год назад
@@LoveYourRV I am guessing it is the cheapness. The flex connectors would be much better than hard connections for the vibrations. And valves and flex would make install and service a lot faster/easier.

I'd guess also too simplify the production line if all the rigs just use 3/8 copper line and flare connections, makes assembly and repairs easy plus less connections to maintain or be a source of leaks. Its done pretty good 12 years now and the trailer has seen over 80,000 miles and a ton of rough roads haven't had any big issues with the propane lines.

I wouldn't have cut the gas line I would have swapped the fitting on the gas valve. Just my thoughts.

Maybe there is some sort of engineering design reason they went with this arrangement versus the old stove which had the copper line come way into the stove top. or maybe just makes it easier for the manufactures at installation time. Not sure...

12 volt fridge next?
@LoveYourRV
@LoveYourRV Год назад
Not likely unless this gas/electric one packs it in, then I may consider one. We do a lot of off-grid camping, so nice to have the gas fridge to save on power usage. I already have a Starlink dish that draws quite a bit, and I carry a portable 50L 12V fridge/freezer if needed for grocery runs and overflow. I have tons of solar power if it's summer, but in the winter, when I do most of my off-gird camping, the sun hours are very short, so I think adding a 12V fridge would mean more generator run time. I also like to camp in the fall and spring shoulder seasons in BC under the trees/clouds where solar power is very difficult to gather. My gas fridge actually works pretty well, ice cream stays nice and hard, and the fridge stays properly cool. Cheers, Ray

I thought they were outlawing gas stoves?
@LoveYourRV
@LoveYourRV Год назад
I thought I read a headline about that, but maybe its was clickbait. Sounds like a tall order to implement. The RV manufactures seem to be going that way, makes their built easier if they can get rid of the gas system. Cheers, Ray

We are very interested in this new stove until we read all the reviews on Amazon about it. Just wish the reviews were better.

What are the main complaints? So far only a day in it works about the same as the old one. Cooked a pork roast last night in the oven, picked 375F and came out nice.

@@LoveYourRV The size of the oven not being as big as their previous Atwood unit, cookie sheets that fit the Atwood don't fit this Furrion. The other complaint is with the heating of the oven is very weak compared to the Atwoods. A couple others were about broken parts and no availability to get replacement parts, but this was back in 2021 so the pandemic may have impacted those.

Didn't measure but seems the Furrion oven is a bit wider but less deep than the Atwood I had.
