I recently spent $300USD on a hobby box of Panini Donruss soccer and got absolutely hosed. It contained a $5 auto and a $2 mem card. 3 base Yamine Lamal cards would net me back maybe $25. Until recently I've assumed that high print runs are the reason why 90% of the time you flush most of your money down the toilet when you break wax. However, what if Panini or their US distributors don't even send the good stuff to this part of the world? Anyway, that box broke the camel's back so to speak and I'm done with wax. I can deal with losing when the playing field is fair. But if it's rigged I can't deal with it. And I'm now convinced that it is rigged.

Many years ago, dealers used to “cherry pick” their hobby boxes. There used to be manufacturing differences with the packs that had inserts. So it was easy to tell by looking at each pack, whether or not it had an insert. This was in the 90’s.

A CT Scanner capable of doing this is going to cost $150k+. However, if the sports card world doesn't see this as a problem they are mistaken. Any card collector working for a hospital, vet clinic, or rehab facility will have access to these machines. They could scan an unopened box and if no logo man they just return open box or sell for slight discount until to get a winning box. With some of these logo mans being the highest price cards in the industry this absolutely needs to be address. Happy Hunting!

Pack searching and card scanning has been going on for years. I remember over 20 years ago people using high powered x-ray machines. People are just getting more sophisticated in their methods. Eliminating the wax packs in the mid to late 90's reduced searching somewhat. I don't know if anything can be done to prevent scanning.

This is going on with pokemon cards too. They can see exactly what foil is in some older $250 packs 😮 Video on YT Scanners cost under $1500
@uthmanibn-jafar1159
@uthmanibn-jafar1159 2 месяца назад
Those videos are just showing that it's possible. In terms of practicality, it would be ridiculously cost ineffective scanning through a bunch of $250 packs looking for a $1000 card. A normal CT scan at the dentists office costs them at least 300-$350 per scan due to the power consumption. Scanning packs of cards searching for hits requires the use of certain post-processing effects which have MASSIVE power requirements beyond a normal CT scan. I don't know exactly how much it could cost per scan, but I can guarantee it wouldn't be less than $1000. And I wouldn't be surprised if it was much more than that. So this is really only a problem for the ultra expensive stuff.
@RossSlots

Just a question…but could it be possible with the AI tech we have today…could the card companies be scanning boxes and giving those to certain breakers?? Seems there are several of the big breakers are pulling one of ones and specials cards and hot cards…while everyone else pays 70.00 bucks for a mega and can only get 10-15 dollars out of it… Seems something is very crooked in the hobbies these Can it really be possible that the card companies can know what cards are in each box.. Giving them the ability to scan boxes with a bar code and being able to tell every card in a box ? Pick out the loaded boxes to give to there breakers 😢
@ltdeclipse7925
@ltdeclipse7925 2 месяца назад
This can be easily fixed by Panini and Topps inserting x-ray films inside boxes or cases. If a CT scan machine was used the x-ray film would be exposed. This would help to alert the buyer or break participant that their boxes were searched. This could be difficult issue with second hand market for resale purposes, but honestly most of these high dollar boxes are opened from breakers. Breakers hold the liability and just have to be more transparent of where the cases or box were purchased from.

I mean if you aren't buying direct or from a trusted store owner, there's a big chance of people on the secondary market doing this and it'll become more common. For example if you are buying sealed magic the gathering, DO NOT buy packs or anything short of an actual booster box, some sets can be box mapped after opening just a few boosters. Or they could open a portion of it hit money cards and sell the rest sealed essentially selling on average lower Estimated Value packs to people. Just be smart when purchasing.

TPott’s pricing class video is for beginners who are just entering this space. For most of us who have been in this a while now, we all know when someone says, “there is no comp, I don’t know how to price this”, we all know it’s a negotiation tactic trying to force the other side to throw an offer first. TPott! Give an advanced class by tweaking the “ZOPA (zone of potential agreement)” framework and teach how to apply it in card negotiations!

Increased checklist coupled with more parallels plus add in the fact that baseball rookies don't command the same value in the open market as NBA/NFL flagship rookies (i.e. silver refractors vs silver prizm) and I think baseball fans are worried they'll just keep increasing towards NFL/NBA boxes when the singles prices don't reflect that. Also, Geoff laughing while basically saying "I buy $1500 boxes for my kids. We're complaining about a few hundred bucks." felt like a "Haha, you're poor!" moment and I'm personally offended. 😂

Here’s my thought process on what a big breaker like backyard would do 1. Scan box for big hit. 2. Have alt account or friend buy that team in that break 3. Rip big hit live and get TONS of marketing/publicity for it 4. Then they get to keep or profit off the card 5. During the process they’re actually ripping off the people buying into the breaks… Not saying it’s happening.. but think about it. They always get huge hits on stream. Clearly could just be buying that team in that break for themselves secretly

As someone who installs, troubleshoots, and runs maintenance programs on CT scanners for a living this would absolutely work for a product like Impeccable to find gold and silver bars. As far as places that would have access to this. Definitely any hospital or imaging clinic, vet hospitals, any airport, and large shipping company certainly. Logistically it would be difficult to purchase and install one in any sort of residential anything.

Public Service Announcement: I sent Beckett 102 cards which they received on February 4th to authenticate on a 45 day turnaround. It has now now been well over 100 days as of July 19th. Beckett: I JUST reached out for an update. All of the cards have been graded/sleeved and sealed as of end of day today and I am hoping that they will all be encapsulated tomorrow. I will keep you posted with any updates I get. I will reach out to you by the end of day tomorrow. No more updates. Do we have any thing we can do about our cards being held basicly hostage. They can't be that busy at beckett. How bout a video in this nonsense

I'm into Pokemon and I'm not surprised this is in sports card either now and probably other cards like Magic or Lorcana.
