Wow,,, what a fish ,congratulations.. New sub .Brings back memories of my childhood fishing the Cart ,always did very well with the Iron blue dun .I lived in Crookston so fished from the bridge at crookston road to hawkhead road ,but when I got my driving licence ,I ended up fishing it from start to the Clyde ,You have inspired me to take it back up again ,I'll visit Bruce when his tackle shop is open and stock up with new lines and leader ,look forward to more videos ,Tight Lines 😎🎣
Thanks Jason! I can't remember another opening day quite like it. The angling Gods were smiling on me (although they got their own back today with a big, fat blank!!) 👍🏼🎣🐟
Cheers mate! Need to get myself over to fish the Kelvin one of these days. This time of year I usually only use a couple of flies- Jinglers, CDC olive duns, F-flies, and generic emergers. Tight lines bud 👍🏼🐟🎣
Hi Sean, I picked up my permit for The White Cart. I learned to fly fish on the Cart at Busby almost 20 years ago and this is my first year back on the water. Can you recommend any pools that I can try out this Saturday 5/06/21 if I start at the Busby hotel. Thanks ✌ Craig
Hi Craig, great to hear you’re getting back on the water. I don’t know the busby stretch particularly well but I know there is access at the bottom of the playing fields at Overlee and at Busby Glen (if Scottish water are not still doing work). I normally fish at the top of Linn park but by now there should be trout all over the river. Ive found the busby aa Facebook page a great place to find information about the fishing and I’m sure one of the anglers who knows that stretch of river would point you in the right direction if you ask on there. Tight lines Craig 👍🏼🎣🐟
That’s amazing & probably like you this river is 15 minutes away from my home I’ve never even considered fishing it as you well know your just expecting a trolly or a mattress snag 😂 you have inspired me mate! If you don’t mind me asking what section do you recommend? I don’t know this river too well I mostly walk the park section but that’s it
If you're local, I'd definitely give the river some consideration. I'd start in the parks, just for the sake of accessibility, but if you have a pair of waders you can basically fish it from Shawlands up to Waterfoot. There is decent looking fly water around nearly every corner 👍🏼
@@SouthsideFlyFishing thanks mate yeah I have waders I was following the river up on google earth to the upper parts I’ll need to get down & have a look
Cheers Danny. I know a few lads who fish the Gryfe and I’ve seen photos of some cracking trout and grayling coming out of the river. I’ve only been up that way once but what a lovely bit of water it is too. Tight lines mate 👍🏼🎣
Thanks Roy! I'm guilty of fishing dry flies even when I know I should be fishing subsurface. The takes are just too good! So lucky to come across a hatch on opening day. Fingers crossed it's a sign of things to come for you and me both! Tight lines 👍🏼🎣🐟
Thanks bud! Sometimes the video side of things feels like it can get in the way of the fishing. But it’s so good to have the cameras rolling when you hook a decent fish. And when the sun’s out, it’s not difficult to be inspired by what’s happening on the river or up the bank! Tight lines mate 👍🏼🎣🐟🏴
The way you put your videos together with the scenery and music really is top notch. I’m about two weeks away from my first session, can’t wait and your videos have kept me going. Tight lines 👍
Thanks so much, Ian! I'm delighted to hear the vids have inspired you over the winter and I'm sure you're itching to get out and have your own adventures. Not long now! Tight lines bud 👍🏼🎣🐟
@@SouthsideFlyFishing tell me about it work and uni deadlines keeping me from the river. Got my permit for the UCAPA but keep meaning to give the cart a go will need to this season!
Cheers to a beautiful fish, great footage, and I am very pleased to see your positive attitude towards sustainability of local rivers and the fish. Best of all, each fish was catch and released!
Superb!! quality Video,of a man enjoying his passion for Fly fishing for Wild Brown trout, whats not to like, lol. As always your knowledge and enthusiasm, really pays off ,Beautiful fish Sean.
Fantastic mate. Great start to the season. I Fish above Waterfoot on the Cart, was out on the Monday, and another couple of times since. Still not seen a fish rise , has the heavy rain pushed them all down ? 🤷♂️ The dry fly you tie looks deadly .
Thanks mate! The fly is a wee jingler variant. It's been deadly for me so 'll be posting a tying tutorial just as soon as I get a free minute! I've been chatting to a good few folk who fish the river and I think I just got very lucky. There have been reasonable hatches hardly any risers spotted. If the weather holds, it'll only be a matter of time before the fish start looking up. The river looks lovely up your way! Tight lines 👍🏼🎣🏴
Great video buddy, I’ve just started fly fishing again after 30odd years, videos like this inspire people like me and like you said some of us don’t know what great fishing is available locally👍👌
Cheers mate! Bit of a journey for me at the moment but once the restrictions lift I'm keen to explore a few new waters so appreciate the recommendation. Tight lines bud 👍🏼🎣🐟
Thanks Richard. I know, it's amazing to think we're in the suburbs of a big city! Hope you bump into a few lunkers on the Cart yourself this season 👍🏼🐟🎣
Great video i dont think enough anglers realise just what is available in the urban enviroment for fishing the glasgow area has a multitude of excellent locations for the urban angler great angling bud cheers and tightlines
Thanks bud! I've been guilty of that myself - driving away from a perfectly good river to go and blank somewhere famous and expensive! If it wasn't for the travel restrictions I don't think I'd have paid the White Cart much attention. Now I'm thinking about the Calders, the Kelvin and all the other rivers within a stones throw from home. Tight lines to you too 👍🏼🎣🐟🏴
Great video, excellent start to the season, really enjoyed watching, beautiful wild brownies. Good point about checking out your local rivers. Well done, tight lines
Thanks Chris. Really glad you enjoyed watching! I'm as guilty as anyone of travelling miles and miles to fish. So it was a timely reminder for me to stop wishing away this lockdown and enjoy the fishing on my doorstep. Tight lines to you too 👍🏼🐟🎣
What a start to your season sean and such quality browns . The season started today on my local river , however i did not share in the spoils like you . It was bloody cold and a canny wind blowing . Did miss one on the dry but a think a will bland that on a being a bit rusty and slow haha . Tight lines on your future outings 👍
Thanks so much Stuart, I was very lucky to come across those fish. We've had unseasonably pleasant weather up here so it was just a case of the stars aligning. You'll hook your next one I'm sure!! Tight lines buddy 👍🏼
well done, same thing happened to me last week in Wales , don't know which was most surprised me or trout , I was almost in shock lol , mine was on a stonefly nymph
Good on you Michael! I know the feeling... watching this video back now, I definitely look like I've seen a ghost at the end 😂😂. Congrats on your cracking start to 2021 👍🏼
Great start to the season, nice video and inspiring, looking forward to seeing more throughout the year hopefully. Right, i'm off to look out my fly gear and head to the Gryfe!
Good man, Andy! I've seen a few decent fish coming off the Gryfe already. Hopefully the rain we've had these last few days will have freshened it up a bit and you manage to start your season with a bang 👍🏼👍🏼
Hi there, really enjoyed watching that film. I used to be a really keen fisherman but have barely cast a line in a few years but recently retired (early) so looking forward to picking up where I left off. The only problem I was spoiled with access to most waters in the Western Isles and plentiful Salmon and Sea Trout. I am back on the mainland and live on the perimeter of Glasgow Airport so unsure of where my best options are but look forward to exploring in due course. Any pointers greatly appreciated. I have liked and subscribed.
Thanks John! Given where you live, I'd have a look at the Paisley/Abercorn angling club (paisleyabercornanglingclub.wordpress.com/fishing-beat-maps/) and the Bridge of Weir angling clubs. You have some brilliant small stream fishing for trout and grayling on your doorstep. If you cross over to the north of the Clyde, there's also fishing on the Kelvin and there's a permit that covers the Loch Lomond tribs (www.lochlomondangling.com/membership/). You might not find the serenity of the Western Isles, but you'll find plenty of overlooked water, wherever you fish. The Clyde is also an improving salmon river, but I don't fish for the silver tourists so can't really advise! Tight lines 🙏🏼🎣🐟
Thanks John! I'm rubbish at multitasking so filming and fishing can be a bit of a chore. But when you get lucky and catch something magical on film, it makes it all worthwhile. Tight lines mate 👍🏼🎣
Thanks mate! If I lived in North America, I'm pretty sure I'd fish exclusively for cutthroat and brookies 😂. Hope you make it out for a cast soon. Tight lines 👍🏼🎣🐟
Will only miss the the 1st month of the season hopefully, fell of the ladder at work broken wrist and ribs gutted. that's a big fish for a river that doesn't look that big well done. I was wondering what video camera u use or would recommend to capture ur days fishing as I was looking to start doing the same thing as my kids are to small to take to the rivers and would love to show them the fish I hopefully catch on camera when i get home. As I release all the fish I catch. Keep up the good work 👍
Really sorry to hear that, mate. Thank God it was nothing more serious. To be honest, mate, I use my iPhone and a GoPro for everything you see on this channel now. I used to take my DSLR out with me but it's just another thing to lug around and I'd rather focus on the fishing. I pop the GoPro on the visor of my hat and stick the phone on a little Gorilla Pod somewhere discrete! Afterwards it's just a case of editing it all together and up it goes! The phone is theoretically waterproof but I use the GP for all of the underwater stuff. Really hope the kids get inspired. Mines is 3 and after much cajoling on her part, I've promised to take her next time we get a sunny day. Wish me luck 😂👍🏼🎣🐟
Thanks for the advice buddy. I've ordered a gopro hero 8 bundle hopefully this should do the job.keep up the good work and stay safe m8 ill be waiting on the next video maybe with ur wee one 😀
@@SouthsideFlyFishing yh the mepps are good mate i fish the cart beside leverndale hospital once or twice a year and the mepps are deadly you ever thought about coming and trying the river leven for the sea/brown trout or salmon
How you been keeping mate good to see you trout n about. I got into fly fish and got first wild brown trout last night just over 2lb from local pond, was trying to find you on FB to let you into a top quality venue ,better bank fishing than loch awe and Lomond put together would like to share with you if possible to get you on Msgr
Great to hear from you Stu, hope you're keeping well too. Sounds like you've got a cracking bit of water on your doorstep 👍🏼. I don't really do Facebook but I'm on Instagram if you use it. Tight lines mate
@@SouthsideFlyFishing yeh mate had never fished my local pond but thought would give try as my permit for river covers but fly only , holds brownies up2 10lb but my target for this year is 5 from it,will sent one up at some point to drop you a location to a hill loch just outside Glasgow probably less than 40/50 min drive for you but epic fishing spot I would like to share with you 👍
It's Busby AA water, Dario. You can find out more on their facebook page: facebook.com/WCAIscotland. The guys who run the association are brilliant and it's only 30 quid for the season 👍🏼
Great wee water that white cart, great to see trout rising as early as this,I fish with a 3 weight rod as well,it's a treat to fish with,a 9ins trout can bend it double, yet if you hook a big fish like that beauty you caught it has the power in it to cope, the wild brown troot is a powerful fish ,hard to beat, your videos really are a treet to watch, keep up the good work.
Thanks Richard! Apparently it's been hard going lots of places. Fingers crossed it won't be too long before they're looking up and you're covering them with the dry 👍🏼🎣🏴
Thanks Douglas! In the summer I fish the White Cart with a 7'6ft glass rod. The quality of the fishing can be incredible and they're some of the prettiest trout I've caught. Tight lines mate!
Great to hear you’re picking up fly fishing bud! There are a few good spots in Linn park both near snuff mill and upstream of the white bridge. Then there’s a few good spots upstream to netherlee and I know people who fish in busby Glen and up at Williamwood. You’re generally looking for rising fish or if there’s nothing hatching, streamy water running into a deeper pool would be a good place to focus. This time of year I’d be using spiders and nymphs size 14/16 cast upstream and left to hang below you for a few seconds before you recast. The fish will feed up before spawning if they can so, if the water’s up and coloured after a bit of rain at all between now and the end of the season, a weighted woolly bugger cast 45dg upstream and stripped back across the current could hook you a big one. Tight lines 🙏🏼🐟🎣
Great video, thoroughly enjoyed. I'm re-inventing myself downstream near Crookston on the fly. Recently joined Abercorn angling club after a very long time away from fly fishing. Loving the challenge and steadily improving, tight lines.
Thanks for the offer! I have friends who fish the Clyde estuary for sea trout and keep meaning to join them for a cast. I bet you know you're alive when you hook a big one on the fly 😂
@@SouthsideFlyFishing I'm pals with coastal fly fisher and Billy Scott from bathgate they come through and fish with me I live right on the Tay and get them right outside the house we get them up to 8 lbs
@@countryman264 small world mate! I haven’t met Billy but I chat with Connor most days :) Will def need to join them for a wee trip over your way one of these days 💪🏼🐟

That's fantastic to hear, Paul! I wish you all the best with it and I'm sure it'll only be a matter of time before you're pulling in trophy trout. Tight lines 👍🏼🐟🎣
