SDS Imports, the same folks who brought in the Lynx 12ga shotgun from China, is now importing a WWII era clone of the famous 1911A1 45 ACP pistol. SDS is having them made by Tisas of Turkey. The SDS 1911 A1 seems to be one of the better low cost 1911 pistols on the market. I compare the SDS 1911 A1 to an actual Colt made 1911A1 from WWII.

Exactly most people say that no one got to buy their service rifle and so on and thats it bought of the surplus market later and its not the specific one. But there where programs that let servicemen just outright buy their equipment. Much easier than to catalog everything if the soldier could just pay up for most of the stuff.
@WardenWolf
@WardenWolf 4 года назад
@@bluebanana6753 I've only ever heard this happen with pistols, and only for officers. Officers in the US military who were carrying "legacy" handguns, that is ones that were no longer standard issue, were historically often allowed to buy them at a deep discount upon their retirement. It was really just an extra retirement perk.
@nra4ever2011
@nra4ever2011 4 года назад
@@WardenWolf yeah no offense to this guy but 99% of the guys that say this are full of shit. You can't tell them that though or they'll immediately go on the defense since they've been eating it up since they were little kids when their granddad told them it. Apart from the CMP and some rare accounts of officers being allowed to keep their pistols and theft it's all bullshit. Serialized equipment was turned back in in the 1940's just like it still is now ( I know Camp Lejune jokes incoming). It's kind of hard to steal and take things that are issued directly to you.
@WardenWolf
@WardenWolf 4 года назад
@@nra4ever2011 Well, at the end of World War II where there were countless returning troops, some things DID fall through the cracks, but it was always either small things like pistols or non-standard-issue equipment that they just might not check for. So while each soldier had to go through a standardized checklist, if it hadn't been officially issued to their unit but they had acquired it on the battlefield it might not be asked about. You would occasionally hear stories from old vets where they said, "They didn't ask about it, so I didn't say anything."

I have a 2021 production the 1911a1 army service grade. Mine came with a flat mainspring housing hence no lanyard ring as well. On 2 different occasions I experienced a stoppage with the pistol resulting from the firing pin retaining plate slipping down and preventing the slide returning completely into battery. According to SDS, This particular run Erroneously received a firing pin Spring Intended for a previous run of their series 70 model, Consequently too weak for this version. They of course are readily replacing both the Spring and providing a new firing pin as well (easy user swap out). Point being when you need them the SDS customer service is great. Quick remedy and courteous people. With that said this pistol has functioned flawlessly otherwise and is extremely accurate and I really love it. I've seen a lot of comments from other videos abou the Tisas 1911a1 regarding the hard to use GI sights that come with the pistol. In my opinion that's a lot of hardwash considering the intended purpose of this particular pistol for short-range self-defense. Since this particular version Tisas 1911a1 so much more accurate than an original GI issue ..... that anything under 25 yd you don't even need to Use the sights. With just a bit of practice, Anyone can learn to put a whole magazine in an 8 inch circle just by point shooting out to 25 yds. "You don't need no stinkin' sights" !!!!

I picked mine up at my FFl last Friday. Purchased a bunch of the cheapest ammo the store had. Was some sorta grey colored box of blazer. Gun absolutely rocks. I didn’t do anything to it other then wiping the barrel with a bore snake. Seemed to been lubed pretty well. Shot several boxes of 50 flawless from start to finish. Swapped the cheap grips out with some 70s era usgi surplus 1911a1 grips. Looks better as well as feels better. The hammer is period correct. There are plenty of variations where they used a wide spur hammer. My 43’ colt has one. Some used narrow. They also updated them with newer updated parts (narrower hammer, back straps with updated serrations as the war went in, and after the war. The mags it comes with is a Mec-gar magazine

I bought a Tisas recently as a stand in for my old Colt. The old Colt is just too dammed valuable to use as a truck/utility gun anymore. Dammit! But the Tisas has satisfied me in every way. It is reliable, accurate and worth every penny of the inexpensive price I paid for it. It is almost as good as a 102 year old Colt. It is more accurate and reliable than many big bucks 1911s. The same warning is issued for their 9 mm version of the 1911, as well as for their 9 mm copy of the Browning Hi-Power. Bought an auto ordinance 1911 a wile back and always regretted it because I had to put up with shitty sights and trigger. On top of that it was a knockoff. Nothing special about it. I slowly upgrade it to modern standards. I could have got something nicer from the start. Anyway I received a 1943 remington rand all matching from the CMP last year so that fill my desired to have an original one.

Also is it cast or forged frame and slide?

It's not about the drop link, it's about the dropping breech. The Hi-Power is the exact same action as the 1911 accomplished without the link but a cam surface instead. The end result is the same, the classic "Browning action".

As far as reliability is concerned, I'm going with Ken Hackathorn's statement on the lower ejection port (see his review of the Govt Classic). If reliability was a problem they would have lowered it before the A1 came out. It was lowered in the Govt models to allow the spent casing to eject without denting it. Reloaders had less work to do then.

@@dukecraig2402 One, about your M14 story, sucks he sold it before you all could experience it. About the 1911s... yea the original intention with the interchangeability of parts was so they could put all the parts of the 1911s into a bucket and wash them, then replace them not worrying about matching them up. Odd that the very thing they wanted with the interchangeability was the same thing that nailed it's own coffin. I'm kinda in the opinion of since those pistols were with the USMC during their defining moments of their force (Pacific campaign) it should be the official pistol of the Corps, even if they don't use it anymore. If there's any gun that speaks Semper Fi more than any other, it's the 1911 .45.

Excellent review as always. Your review made me go out and purchase one on these to test and I am extremely impressed with just about everything. I put about 300rds through it today and then tore it down completely and examined all the parts with the numerous original GI parts that I have. Every GI part fit perfectly in this SDS import. I agree with you about the Philippine 1911's. I refuse to work on them anymore. I just got tired of the hit and miss quality control and having to hand fit a great deal of the parts. This is much truer to form than both the Rock Island GI series and the Springfield GI series and at a savings of between $80 to $150. I have been shooting 1911's for over 50 years and gunsmithing them for almost that long. Your Colt 1911A1 did have the wide hammer spur up until about 1943 when Colt went with the narrow one. I have never gotten hammer bite with any GI 1911 and I did not get it with this one either after over 300 rds. I do have small hands and that is the reason. The magazine that came with my Tisas was a Mec-gar and was so marked and I found it to be excellent with no flex at all. I feel that this 1911 A1 is by far the best value for the money with extremely good machine work and attention to detail. Time and more rounds through it will tell me how it will hold up, but the quality of the steel seems just fine. Thank you for your detailed and very honest review.
