I appreciate your videos so much! I'm not a secular person but we are secular and academic in our homeschooling. My son will be four in August and is doing kindergarten and first grade work, so knowing what you do with your gifted little ones is super helpful.

I hadn't even heard of Dogman the Musical. How do you watch it?
@KristinaBarder
@KristinaBarder 3 года назад
@@LoveLearningEveryday so I haven't found anywhere where you can watch the entire thing. We read all the books and listened to the soundtrack on prime music (we're still listening to it months later; they loved it). On RU-vid there is a video with a quicker version of the musical. They sing the most important songs and do a narration for the missing plot points. I'll see if I can find it and dm you. We live 10 minutes from Philadelphia. They have tons of children's theatre. They've done dogman the musical in the past and I hope they'll do it this year so we can go see it. The shows aren't scheduled yet.

Last thing, I have been using Harbor and Sprout. (I am a serial poster, apparently.) They deliver a whole curriculum for each month. That would work for any kind of regular child, i suppose. We use it here as an overlay of everything and for our science. They set it up with the same subject, into 4 skill levels. This means my kids can take it as far as they want to. Right now I am curating Chemistry for the month of February. I have a lot of Montessori material for hands on introductions, and then the rest is from H&S. Better than Blossom and Root. In any case, We do all the normal things we do and then the kids have H&S to fill up the rest because they finish everything so quickly. They just release Aviation, and there is Botany, Zoology, Engineering etc. Great stuff.

My older two kids are doing philosophy this year as part of Torchlight level 4, and I'm totally supplementing with The Good Place! I might have to look up the Fireworks Press philosophy books if my younger two want to join in. 😊 My oldest (13yo) is also using Duolingo and I'm blown away by how well he's doing with Japanese. Such a great app!

Oooo, HUGE a musical theatre fan here! Hamilton and Newsies are excellent choices! Annie is also a classic with a ton of history (Hoovervilles, The Great Depression, Roosevelt) and touches on adoption. Seussical and You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown are fun and good opportunities for author studies. Fiddler on the Roof is a great classic dealing with history. My absolute favorite, though, is Once on This Island. It’s based on the same legend The Little Mermaid is, but is set in the Caribbean. The music and messages are incredible and it’s a great one to discuss morality and polytheism. It’s a bit darker, but my six year old can handle it and enjoys it a lot.

we are doing something similar this year for around the world. I wasn’t thrilled with any one curriculum so I made my own!! we are pairing it with the science units, mammals, habitats, and lastly birds to really bring the whole picture together. I have really low expectations for myself but am excited to see my kids absorb! i’m so thankful you mentioned river of history. i’d love to see a video in the future of you reviewing it a bit. I have multiple tabs that I leave open on my browser of resources that you have mentioned that i’m just so excited to try in the near future. thank you for your videos!!

We loved year 3 science from Blossom and Root. We did it last year, along with the Prehistory unit. It took us a year and half because we often chose to read all the books or add even more projects. I did it with a 5th and 6th grader, and it was easy to make it grade appropriate. I'm pretty sure half my Instagram posts were about B & R science. People probably think that's all we did last year. LOL

A great series im currently reading myself is the book trilogy Silverwing by Kenneth Opall, its about a young Silverwing bat named Shade who gets separated from his colony. Its fantasy series but its more along the lines of the Warrior Cat series if you ever read that. I loved the first book, they made an animated series based off of it if you can find by the same title. It does get dark at point as it involves animal behavior like hunting and cannibal bats, which I didn't know was an actual thing until reading it, but I remember reading it in middle school and falling in love it and I got me learning about different bat species. Even as an adult reading it I'm looking top bat species that the author uses to base his fictional species off of. I'm just digging into the second book and I think it would be a great addition to your science read aloud if you ever get a chance to read it. Definitely more when your kiddos are older though.

I am also thinking about combining the BFSU open-and-go book with Blossom and Root science, so I can't wait to hear how it goes for you. Hi! I love your content and reviews. I’m new to the homeschool world. My daughter is 5 but she had really excelled in certain area where she’ll lack in others (she hates reading 📖😭😭 but I have a plan for this). I truly want to use her interest into her learning. She’s very into science but the anatomy/doctor aspect of things. Every curriculum I’ve found to help w science is either based in animal habitats etc or solar system. I’m even open to the gardening aspect of science like photosynthesis etc. You wouldn’t believe what she already know and what she keeps asking about. Luckily my mom is a seasoned LVN but some of her questions are even a little advanced for my mom’s expertise lmao 😅😅😅 I also think this could add in math AND reading. Could you or anyone here give me a good source / curriculum I can use?

So in my state all we have to put is age as opposed to grade, so I don't have to make that choice. However I think I would just say what grade they are supposed to go into just to leave more options and I think that is what most states are looking for. Also depending on state and homeschool laws I would count high school level work toward their transcript once they get to that ability even if they are not high school age. Sorry I am not very helpful! I hope you figure out what is right for your family.
