The same punishments have been in place for years. The gap between the haves and the have nots has widened. How do I know this is the cause? I live in Paradise Valley and not even the bottles of Chateau Lafite Rothschild are not even locked up.
I'm a flight attendant based out of NY but I live in SC. When I would overnight in CA I would go in Walgreens and people would just walk in, put the stuff in the bag and slowly walk out. That was crazy to me. I was shocked the first time. After the 5th time it was just business as usual.
The city of Portland just closed its last Walmart because of this. Shopping online is easier and mor efficient anyway. Brick and mortar is slowly becoming a thing of the past and we are all here to witness it.
Why are people complaining? The more shoplifting the higher the prices have to go. What, it takes them a few more minutes? Good for the stores, all the ones in California should do the same thing. The police and politicians seem to think this is nothing more than a joke, and just simply let it happen with zero consequence to the criminals.
When you tell the entire state "you can steal up to 900$, per theft, and we'll only give you the equivalent of a parking/speeding-ticket" ... this is what happens.
Do you both believe this is only a California issue? I managed a Walmart. Theft is a problem in every state-regardless of the rules, laws or punishments. The greater factor is poverty.
Back in the 80s we had the same problem. What cured it was the stores hired security and they busted everyone who stole. Then the store prosecuted the offenders. After a while, shoplifting stopped. If you don't bust the crooks, you make life more expensive and difficult for everyone.
It's not a punishment to have to go to special area for high theft products, as long as you have an intent to buy you shouldn't have to worry about getting locked in or anything.
Nah, California elects Democrats. They protect criminals, including thieves, to scare the naive into voting for them and getting the votes of the criminals themselves. It’s very obvious what is going on. Collectively, those two groups outnumber the productive class.
it doesn’t make financial sense, you spend much more than what is worth, even if they stole hundreds. And mind you, it isn’t a guaranteed conviction nor if you get a conviction, you get any money back.
@@SupraRyu Finances should not be the issue. Criminals should pay for their sentencing in full and the penalties they have to pay can be used to finance the trial of those who were not convicted. If they cant pay, then just set up work camps attached to prisons and let them work off their debt there or use ankle monitors in case some regular company is willing to let them work there.

Well you want the store to be robbed blind, go ahead, don't put any security in your store and see what happens. There is always going to be theft. I worked at office max back in 2001-2004 and saw allot of things being stolen. We as employees were not supposed to go after them, management rules, just report what happened. We had no Security guards at the store. Stores have allot of losses because of theft, so security measures and item lockups are needed. End of story. Thieves are running rampant now days and are desperate to steal anything. If you don't like it, don't shop there.
Its kind of interesting how its not like this outside of large cities. Where i live we are working class and we have incentive to vote for sound politics that enforce laws and create jobs. Its all about how the voters choose to live. City people choose to live with crime as normal. Crime is not normal. Voting to allow drug use and theft is pretty stupid to say the least.
@@MA-yl1er Coming from a small town myself, I agree with this wholeheartedly. I hate to sound cynical with my earlier comment. @@MA-yl1er I worked in a kinda small city grocery store and this did happen at times. A little over 30k people and a bunch of customers that came through were low income, poor or relied on snap. Were going to go to a system where you submit a purchase list electronically, it gets fulfilled and paid for. and you pick it up in alocker at the front of the store that you open with an app and a order pin! I have already seen this in one store here in Canada. customers don't get in the store. Its staff only. I live near a weekend fleamarket. More and more booths are opening up with new products such as all these that are mentioned here, plus flea pills for dogs. They sell for half to 75% of store prices. It's no secret its all stolen merchandise from Walmart.
I love it when the companies get tired of all the thefts, shutter the store and the community has a deer in the headlights look of, “Why are you leaving?” 🙄
This exactly how it started in third world countries. Look up how stores are barred up and the clerk gets your order through a tiny window and you pay first and then you receive your items.
Having lived and traveled overseas extensively I can tell you the common denominator of the problem isn’t third world. It’s rampant wherever there’s Western Hemisphere Blacks and Hispanics or mulattos. Don’t lump in yellow Asians or Pacific Islanders or East Indians with Brazilians or Haitians for example.

Do you think the police of California actually give us two s**** about it do you think the police of California will show up when somebody calls the emergency number? No this is why you have private security. But the stores don't want to hire private security because it will drive up the cost of the products. Well news flash the see, the barriers you're putting down they cost money and you know what the convenience store and all the other stores are going to do they're going to raise the price of their products to justify the enhanced barriers or any other BS they want to say. Which in turn causes more shoplifting to happen because well you can't afford anything so you have to do s*** that you have to do to survive
As a retailer in California, it is frustrating to see criminals come in and grab what they want and walk out casually, where my ARMED security guard could NOT do anything because the criminal will sue if touched or injured. I totally understand everything is locked. It's extra work and extra steps for me to unlock merchandise for each customer.😡
Hey worked lots of security jobs policy set by management observe dont stop call police who sadly told by lefty its ok no problem here. Store just raise prices anyway.
Reimagine store layouts, that's the answer. Everything's in the back. Only thing in front are isles with digital photos of items. Use your phone to select items which will be sent to checkout on conveyor belts. On items like meat & produce keep them up front but behind meat counters to be paid for before touching. Not if but when. Only solution.
I work at a Wholefoods in a very wealthy area. The amount of theft I see from them is disgusting. Consuming items as they “shop” and leaving the empty containers on the shelf. People these days lack morals and class!
I needed water while I was shopping. And got a cold one from a small cooler. I drank it, but put the empty bottle on the conveyor belt at check out. I would have felt HUGE guilt if I didn't.

policing will always exist, to the sadness of defund police types. If the govt no longer has a monopoly on policing, the community will police themselves and offenders may not like what that looks like. I imagine that there will be a lot more guns and beatings in many places, and it will all be because of the failure of govt to protect its non-harmful members.
The $900 theft limit in CA must be abolished, the laws covering theft need to be revised. Thievery, whether petty or grand, must be punished with jailtime.
Don't vote blue. And newscum needs to be removed but that won't happen cuz Commifornia is fcked. This is entirely the fault of every single person who voted for newscum and the democrats. This crap only happens in democrat run shit holes.
Thats not how that works. in 2020 the laws changed the classification of crimes. Those being: Classification of Theft Offenses and Penalties in California Like many states, California classifies theft offenses according to the value of the property taken. California law measures the value of stolen property by the reasonable and fair market value of the property. If services are stolen, the value of the services is determined according to the contract price for those services or, if there is no contract price, according to the reasonable and going wages for the services. (Cal. Penal Code § 484 (2020).) Petty Theft California law defines petty theft as the theft of any property with a value of $950 or less. Most petty thefts are charged as misdemeanors, which carry a sentence of up to six months in county jail, a fine of no more than $1,000, or both. However, if the property has a value of $50 or less, the prosecutor can charge the offense as an infraction, so long as the offender has had no other theft-related conviction. Petty theft charged as an infraction is punishable by a fine of no more than $250. (Cal. Penal Code § 490 (2020).) Petty Theft With a Prior Conviction ("Petty With a Prior") A petty theft involving property stolen valued at $950 or less may be charged as a felony or misdemeanor (called a "wobbler"), if the offender has the following prior convictions: (1) at least one prior petty or theft-related conviction for which a term of imprisonment was served, and (2) a prior conviction for a serious or violent offense, for any registerable sex offense, or for embezzlement from a dependent adult or anyone over the age of 65. A misdemeanor can result in a sentence of up to one year in jail, whereas a felony can mean incarceration for 16 months, two years, or three years. (Cal. Penal Code § 666 (2020); Cal. Proposition 47 (2014).) Grand Theft Grand theft includes theft of property with a value of more than $950 or theft of a firearm (any value). The penalty for stealing a firearm is a felony, punishable by a state prison term of 16 months, two years, or three years. In all other cases, grand theft is a wobbler and can be charged as a misdemeanor or felony. A misdemeanor sentence results in up to one year in jail and a felony sentence results in prison time of 16 months, two years, or three years. (Cal. Penal Code §§ 487, 490.2 (2020).) Looting A person who commits grand theft or petty theft during a state of emergency, local emergency, or evacuation order is guilty of looting. Looting involving grand theft (stealing items valued over $950) constitutes a wobbler offense, with a misdemeanor penalty of up to one year in jail and a felony penalty of 16 months, two years, or three years' incarceration. When petty theft is involved (stealing items valued at $950 or less), the punishment is a misdemeanor with a six-month jail sentence. Both looting penalties carry a minimum jail sentence that can only be reduced when a judge decides the reduction is in the interest of justice. (Cal. Penal Code. § 463 (2020).) Shoplifting Penalties Shoplifting in California can result in both criminal and civil penalties. Criminal Penalties for Shoplifting Shoplifting in California occurs when a defendant enters a store, while that establishment is open, intending to steal property worth less than $950. The crime is considered a misdemeanor, punishable by up to six months in the county jail. (All other entries of commercial establishments with the intent to steal are burglaries. For information on burglary laws in California, see Burglary and Home Invasions in California.) (Cal. Penal Code § 459.5 (2020).) Civil Penalties for Shoplifting In addition to criminal penalties, a person who commits a shoplifting offense in the state of California may be civilly liable to the store owner for the following amounts: the retail value of the merchandise, if the property is not recovered in sellable condition damages of at least $50 but not more than $500, and costs of bringing the action. So congratulations! you fell for fox news nonsense.
The problem is with the San Diego County D.A. I was physically assaulted and the whole thing was caught on camera. My arm was bleeding and the police took photos. They “arrested” the person who did it. It was the owner of Hot Shots in Carlsbad. The “arrest” is a notice to appear…a ticket. The D.A. office called me about a month later and told me that the people of a jury would be quite angry to be called to sit on this case. I would take them away from their work and/or family. He said he would prosecute if I said I wanted that. Well, what a PASSIVE AGGRESSIVE away to tell me not to waste their time. He was quite snarky when I mentioned that back in the day people took care of these problems on their own. He used the words “street justice” to try to make me feel ignorant. Well, San Diego County D.A. doesn’t provide any justice to its citizens. He suggested that I sue in Civil Court. REALLY? So, I have to find an attorney to do his job! This is why all of us have to deal with this shoplifting too. The police will arrest them (maybe), but I guarantee that they will not be prosecuted.
If he didn't want to be taken from his work and family he shouldn't be assaulting people. People need to face the consequences of their actions. Letting people continually get away with it just lets them know they can do it again.
The theft is happening also at the dollar stores. Last week I could not find a cart or a basket to use to do my shopping. The manager said all the shopping baskets were stolen. She said people come into the store, place whatever the thieves want into the baskets, and run out of the store with the merchandise. By the time the police come, the thieves are long gone. The manager was able to find me a cart eventually but I walked out empty handed; most of the shelves were empty. How sad 😔 we are living with this lawlessness now.
are you talking about dollar general? it sounds like your describing dollar general. I work at dollar general.and I can say everything you said is true. But the company also has some blame for the empty shelves they dont give their stores enough hours to stock the products. even if you have the staff to work the truck if you dont have enough hours to scheduel people to work then it wont get done. then they just send SO much merchandise it's impossible for only two people per shift to do everything.
You democrats are behind the lawless look at Trump tried to stop illegals but your Biden pays them with our own baby formula, and free food, cell phones too.
Pro-tip: The companies will never foot the bill for this stuff, it just gets passed down to you, the consumer. Enjoy higher prices and less convenience, the store won't be losing money, you will
Another pro tip: crack down on the politicians that enact the policies that enable criminals. We gotta be more careful of who we trust with the power that public office brings.
Once these stores are robbed out of business, then people will complain about "food deserts". Food deserts aren't the product of companies - they're the product of thieves who have no regard for others. Until the thieves are dealt with, nothing will change for the better.
In the huge...7 to 8 million population area, where I'm from, these types get on a freeway or a train, go north to rob and or kill people, then go back to their places in the south area. They're getting caught because their phones ping at the crime scenes. Many are teens, 17, 18, 19. They're so misled by hiphop, rap and drug dealers. Most have no male guidance in their lives. It is unbelievable! The "people of color" have got to wake up and make a change. I believe it is possible but it will be a miracle from God, by way of Jesus, who came to save us from sin. You can't even go to the large downtown area because they live just next to it and people are getting shot dead there, mostly at night, for no good reason. They drive like maniacs because they're on something, every time. They are not all in that old neighborhood but it is so old, it is just ingrained, there. Until all that is bulldozed, I guess the cycle keeps going. They NEED to see some more of the world and obtain some success through guidance. "School " isn't doing that job.
Welcome to the new CA. Thank you letters should be sent to the Gov, DAs, Mayors, and Supes. The politicians have caused this and they are still silent. They are so woke that they rather cater to the criminals than the law abiding tax paying citizens.
I think the day is coming where all stores will need to be like Costco. A Membership to get in. They will need to go one step further and electronically monitor what you take off of a shelf and then automatically charge your credit card for it. Since the Government no longer cares about crime, business will need to take drastic measures to stop this.
does Costco force its members to self-checkout? there needs to be aisles where you come in, you buy or pass by security that will stomp you if you try to steal otherwise.
It's not that the government doesn't care about crime, but the system is broken. The government is made up of people. Most of them do care about crime. But nobody knows how to fix things.
@@AGalacticMerger Why do you think they raise prices? You must make up for the stolen products. If a store loses $100k in a year, well you bet they will increase the price of the product the next year. Rinse and repeat. Then you have the cost to install those security devices. Then you have the cost of having a security guard. Then you have the cost of hiring more people to manage the store. I can keep going. You think that stores will just take that on the chin. No, they are going to pass the buck to the consumer. When all that fails, now then they close the store and move to a better part of town. Then you get to drive 10 miles to get what you could have gotten before.

Because the criminals are not held accountable for their crimes, now the rest of society has to be treated like a criminal. And pay higher prices for items to boot. When all that simply has to be done, is to hold the theft accountable for their actions. And this starts from when they are children, because now kids are taught that it’s okay to get away with things with no consequences. And this pattern continues into adulthood. SMH 🤦🏾♀️
When the same people that say that “it’s inconvenient” are the ones voting for soft judges and lawmakers will be the same ones shocked if these places decided to permanently close doors the way Walmart is doing in some areas yet they’ll never understand why this is all happening. They better feel blessed this place still has decided to at least attempt to try something first to deter rampant theft rather than call it quits. You get what you voted for!

This is the easiest problem in the world to solve. Just prosecute shoplifters, that's it. That's literally all you have to do. Stores are forced into taking these ridiculous measures because local government flat-out refuses to enforce the law or even CONSIDER enforcing the law.

I think the one of the ways you could prevent shoplifting is to require a free membership card with a chip. If that person triggers the alarm system when intentionally exiting the shop without paying for the goods, the chip would be activated and that person would not be allowed to shop in that store chain again. It would also tie him to the crime so he or she could be prosecuted.
The problem is that the consequences for shoplifting are virtually non existent. Why should I be punished because the local government refuses to prosecute?
@@Riorozen require a membership card just to enter the store. Similar to getting through security at the airport. But soon i bet they would enter with stolen or fake cards, but something similar needs to be done. Just this week i have seen people walk out with full cart loads of groceries and the employees say management tells them that they can't even approach these people in fear of corporate lawsuits or they will be terminated on the spot! And these thieves know this.
California passed a law where under $950 is a misdemeanor. Basically if they're caught, they're released within hours. They also have laws regarding security and detaining shoplifters so the businesses have no power to stop anyone.
When there is effectively no punishment for stealing then people realize it's open season and you can steal almost as much as you want. I'm honestly surprised more people don't walk in and loot the place on a regular basis.
When I was a kid you pumped your gas and then you paid. When you bought food from the store you didn't need a box cutter to get it open. Everybody I knew owned a gun but there were no school shootings. We weren't so emotionally fragile that we had to take a dog everywhere we went.
And, when people like us were kids, most of the mental health facilities hadn't closed in favor of shoving random pills that often don't work down people's throats until something "sticks". When we were kids, the social safety net was sufficient to survive, though it didn't give a lot of extra. Now, a welfare or social security check wouldn't buy you a cardboard box on the street, meaning many recipients have to sell meds to just barely scrape buy, fueling the drug crisis, which in turn leads to stealing to fund drug habits. When we were kids, the news wasn't largely owned by a few rich corporations who constantly fuel partisanship, anti-social behavior, hatred, and conflict, destroying American civility. When we were kids, a constant stream of failed education policies hadn't turned our schools into child prisons full of mentally-deranged youth who terrorize their innocent peers. In short, our society still functioned when we were kids. Sure, it had problems, but it was still much more functional than what we have today.

Never mind the impossible logistics of what "Dishonest Abe" wanted to do with newly-freed slaves...send them OUT of the USA, to Haiti, Brazil, or even AFRICA (Liberia had been going for nearly 20 years by 1865 when the slaves were freed). As subsequent "back to Africa" movements, like the one promoted by Bahamian Marcus Garvey, had relatively few takers, we can well imagine that FORCING blacks out of America in the post-bellum period would have imposed a human tragedy far more than the "Trail of Tears" experienced by the Cherokee and Choctaw in the 1830s.
In the 50s on the outskirts of Houston, boys would bring rifles to school. They would shoot rabbits on the way to be cooked for dinner. The teacher would just have the rifles put in a closet for the day to be given back after school.
The grocery store I shop at in Washington state has it's liquor and clothing departments fenced off and requires payment for purchases to be separate from everything else. Most of the items in the meat department have trackers that set off an alarm if it's not deactivated at a cash register. Many popular vitamins and supplements are kept in the pharmacy. A couple times I have seen people push carts full of stuff out the door without paying.
No matter how many obstacles we put on the criminal they always will try to find a way around it, oh it's funny how they could use their brains to try to be sneaky but they can't use their brains to get a damn job
It's more profitable to be a criminal than an employee. Low wages long hours the need for multiple jobs just to stay afloat. Top that off with a near zero accountability for all sorts of crimes across our country, ever rising inflation & raising interest rates, people are just trying to get ahead by any means necessary without being used or abused in the process. These sorts of issues were not that big of a deal decades ago when we had single income families with a basic job able to feed & house their families. Overall it is an economic & societal collapse happening right before our eyes, the wealth inequality has never been this great in America & there is no sign of it stopping. This will get worse, there are too many factors no one is doing anything about!
Kids take whatever they need? No, kids take whatever they want because of no morals and no consequences. You shouldn't have to barricade your store to prevent theft.
I worked for a Kroger chain store some years ago. The store manager showed me his order sheets were they ordered hair products like Afro-Sheen and Jeri-Curl and at the end of the month we were out of several dozen boxes of those products and received no money for them from sales. Simple fact, all of those products were stolen, so, we put them in a locked case. Problem solved.

@@omi_god Craziness would be allowing people to steal $950 worth of stuff before you decide to prosecute them. Craziness would be arresting people who steal and putting them back on the street a few hours later so they can continue on their path of crime.
People said the same thing when stores started putting in the tag detectors at the door. None of this is new. The news is highlighting it more, depending on which cult you belong to.
The store of the future will require you to have a debit card to enter and will charge you when you leave. Kind of like a Amazon Fresh but you can't get in the door without a debit card with funds on it.
What Walmart could have done is made its stores membership based like Costco and BJs because you don't hear all of this going on at those stores. That also allows them to properly identify everyone who comes into their stores. You should have to swipe your membership card when you enter the store so they can identify who is coming in.
I live in Northern Ontario in Canada and shoplifting has become really bad here as well. There is especially a lot of obvious theft through the self-checkout registers.
There may be theft at the self check out but I see them being configured better for better surveillance. Also, it is obviously worth it to have six to eight checkouts monitored by one cashier than having to pay six to eight additional cashiers. At my Sam's club, we have self-checkouts but you have to move the items to a different cart as you checkout. If you checkout on the app, the checker at the door rescans almost every item. It used to me be just a few of the expensive ones. I admit I make it hard because I shop in shopping bags, not carts so I can maneuver better.
@Be Bop Do Wop No store could have enough employees for that now. I see them shopping with a handheld computer with shopping bags in a cart. They sometimes do two orders at once, but at the height of covid, getting a slot for online shopping which is like giving them a list was a long process. There were times when getting into the website took two hours. That is not a sustainable model. Stores have self-checkouts even with theft because one cashier watching 6-8 checkouts is cheaper than 6-8 additional cashiers.
@Be Bop Do Wop We are not overpopulated. In the olden days, almost anyone could immigrate and they did. Your ancestors came from somewhere looking for a better life. There are still mom-and-pop shops that have more personal service, but supermarkets are more efficient. You would be very disappointed that the little store doesn't have the kind of variety that supermarkets have.
I recently had someone visit me from California. She was amazed that Target didn’t have their products locked up. It’s crazy how different things are just a state or two away.
And this is why the Californian's.....CAN JUST STAY IN CALIFORNIA.....otherwise, when they move somewhere else - they bring their INFECTION with them...
I went to a. Target store and the aspirin was locked up. Many companies tell their employees not to confront shoplifters because of the liability if someone gets hurt; and of course the criminal may turn around and sue the store and the employee if they get hurt. And some states have raised the limits of a misdemeanor and felony shoplifting crime so now the criminals can steal more and it will still be a misdemeanor. Crime pays
My cousin works for Target, traveling around the country doing store remodels, and he says that all major metropolitan area Target stores will have locking shelves within the next few years. Just too many 5 finger discounts, with virtually no punishment.
If I have to get an employee to purchase an item, I'm probably going to just shop on line. I'm not going to try and find an employee to find out they don't have the key and wait and wait to look at something I might purchase. Maybe if we punished criminals we would not have this problem.
Well when we live in a society that now incentivizes crime to flourish under the guise of solving inequity, it should come as no surprise that there is a huge crime wave right now. The message I interpret is that there is a greenlight to commit crime because they the criminals are confident they will not be prosecuted and in some cases will simply exit the store without being arrested.
This is the reason I don't go to Target or Walmart much. As a normal person who isn't a criminal, waiting at times 5+ minutes for an employee to come unlock an item and then walk with me to the checkout for it is an unacceptable waste of my time. Half the time the five minutes gives me time to price check on amazon and the store loses my business as well.
I needed a new ground wire for my electric box, went to Lowe's and after getting an employee to get the wire for me, he had to carry it to the register to make sure it was paid for! I needed some other Items so I had to pay for the wire, put it in my car then come back in the store for the other stuff!
@@ashleyhavoc1940 I personally believe all states should be constitutional carry like Texas, and that store employees should shoot thief’s in the act. Clearly the threat of jail time doesn’t work as a deterrent.
that's why you buy your stuff online yea? Which is why most of our local city economy have gone to crap. The money you spend next door stays in the community. The money you spend on amazon goes to amazon and leaves your community. Walmart is for poor people, you shouldn't be going there unless you are the bottom class. And Target is a place where a bunch of white people go to be fancy, they call it targee. So both those places you mention are for hill billy white people or middleclass people who pretend they are rich that means none of those customers have high standards, youd be an idiot for having high standards in a bum market.
Ralph's has been doing this at their downtown LA location for some time now. Yes it's a hassle and annoying but it keeps the store from closing all together so it's understandable.
@@omi_god What he is saying, is the cost of rent is related to the average mortgage monthly cost. If your state or area has an average high monthly mortgage cost, then rent reflects that cost.
Californians won't change how they vote. The honest hardworking people of this state will just put up with being inconvenienced. No one seems to know this is a result of how you vote during elections.
It's the ghetto lottery. Thugs(or their family members) from the sh*t side of town gets a huuuuge payout if the thug gets taken out while committing a crime. The local jurisdiction figures a settlement would cost less time and money compared to a full bore lawsuit.
In other countries, people who are convicted of theft have their hands cut off. Although that is pretty barbaric, I think it really should be done for repeat offenders.
Politicians r more concerned about the rights of criminals, f the law abiding citizens, taxpayers n retailers. When all the stores closed, they will appoint a committee to figure how what went wron.
I used to work both as a cashier & self-checkout cashier. And you would not believe that around 50-60% of customers steal. Ranging from a few items & sometimes the WHOLE transaction. It's sad that people steal and then act really offended & Starr swearing at the minimum wage worker who caught them. I'm glad I'm over that, very stressful.
You're right, I don't believe that over half of customers steal. And that minimum wage worker wouldn't be a minimum wage worker if they got a fair paycheck.
the self check out is a pain in the ass i refuse to use them i use the cashier and no not 50 60% steal and being a cashier is not a minimum wage job i had a sister making 18 dollar an hour first year box boy and shopping cart chaser part time still in school ya but they know nothing
@@jaimep3432 have you seen the numbers of stores closing down? Portland, NYC, Chicago. It may not be 60%, but its high enough for those stores to close.
Obviously some retailers need to hire in some secuirty experts and make some convenient changes that won't impact the typical customer experience. Maybe more cameras and folks observing the cameras nearby and ready to catch them at the exits. They all need to be prosecuted if they intend to keep the matter on low or else they will continue to "get away with it"
what do you know, another step towards a dystopian world. it's not the stores fault that the legal system basically allows theft, but I would find it very annoying to shop like that. I also feel bad for the people that are stealing because they can't afford essentials. screw the people who steal just because they want to steal, smh, scumbags.
Keep voting Democrat, you had a chance to recall Gov. Newsom twice, you re-elected him- then suffer the consequences. You have Attorney Generals, that will not prosecute or enforce the laws in CA, Gov. Newsom releasing thousand of prisoner out of CA prisons. Try to victimized the thief giving no accountability for his/her actions, rather than your politicians that care more for criminals that its own abiding American citizens is pathetic and circumvent the laws.
Well, that's what happen when you keep voting for the same political party but expect a different result. Why people still support Criminal Supporting Politicians & Political party is a big myth to me.
I worked in grocery retail for 40 years. Companies make up some of their profit losses from theft by raising prices. This theft deterrent seems like a good idea to me. Price gouging is bad enough without having to make up for theft loss.
Worked at a grocery store where we had one woman coming in everyday to try and shop lift. She always wore different outfits but she always wore the same light tan cowboy boots. We would have a couple of employees stay a couple of feet from her and follow her around the store. After about two weeks she gave up and we never say her again
These people keep saying "kids" are stealing. From what I've seen on the news, it's grown adults doing it...walking out with arm this of merch! They come with all their friends and don't care who sees them.
I bet youre right. The USA will pay for food, shelter, medical to those who dont want to work but they dont provide fentanyl of meth so they have to get money to pay for that.
Just use the old Soviet "3 Line" procedure: Line 1 to place your order. Line 2 to pick up and pay for your items. Line3 to have the employee check your receipt with the items.
Just remember who is conveying the message in government, our universities, and public schools that everyone is an oppressed victim, that capitalism is evil, and there are no standards of behavior -- only excuses. You couldn't collapse a society quicker if you did it on purpose. _Hmmmmm....._
It may be an inconvenience to the shoppers...but think of the extra cost that the stores have to expend to prevent thefts in their stores...that means higher prices when you check out. With the amount of thievery going on, and the fact that the thieves are not prosecuted, you can't blame the stores for taking preemptive measures to prevent losses.
I just joined Thrive when you order your grocery items online. Perhaps the stores of the future will require their patrons to order, then prepay before leaving the store.
Its not that the criminals who dont care about the law, its our elected officials who dont care about the law. They care more about the rights and feelings of criminals.
when you have D A's who belong to a certain donkey political party reward criminals and see them as victims by "tha man', then laws are all for nothing.
@@alejandromaldonado6159 There used to be laws, but Californians got brainwashed to make emotional decisions versus rational decisions. Just deserts. I remember when places like Valejo and Alameda were beautiful and safe. Oh well.
It's going to come down to the customer will go into a store and use a video screen to check off the items they want to buy, and the purchases will be brought out to them. Everything will be kept in storage rooms away from the public. It's what they're going to have to do because some people are robbing them blind.
It would be more convenient for shoppers to take a ticket to register with other groceries, pay for everything in one transaction, then take receipt to a separate counter where you’re given theft-prone item(s).
It will be. It'll go back to old times when you'd take company scrip to the commissary and they'd let you have what you want at the company's price discretion.
Wild. I would never have thought effectively decriminalizing theft would have follow on consequences. How could we possibly expect law makers and other professionals to forsee see this happening... Don't deal with the root of the problem just make sure to punish absolutely everyone else.
My local Walmart did this years ago. We can thank Gov Newsom for encouraging these thefts when he decided to lower dollar amounts stolen for prosecution. 😡😡😡
