Buddy of mine asked about the new controller deadzones so naturally I responded with a 27min vid after burning 2 months doing extensive testing on every new (and old) setting lol, but hopefully some returning / new players can find it helpful (maaaay have gone off the deep end... don't make fun of my melee table😅)
PS5 user here. Just wanted to say thank you for covering all these settings. I kid you not I didn’t even know about the melee keybinds until you mentioned it. I’ve adjusted a majority of my settings after watching your video and honestly I feel like I’m running Destiny the best that it can. Thanks a lot!
Yknow I was gonna clock off at like 6 minutes or so because I’d heard most of it already. Then I looked at the length, and figured I might learn some stuff. The controller deadzones explanation is super helpful, gonna use the finisher key bind too lol. Thanks for this, great information.
There is one thing to add about that melee table. For option 3 (binding the same button to charged and uncharged) you can force the game to use the uncharged melee whenever you want by left-clicking. You can't use a charged melee if the game thinks you're attempting to fire a gun. The downside was that this made it impossible to shoot and then shoulder charge
For months I had constant controller drift problem and none of my emotes worked. I changed the dead zone settings and now it is back to normal. Thanks. I am now subscribed to you.
For any one on console, the best thing you can do for melee settings imo is to make the finisher a two button press on left stick(or you could do what he recommended and use double tap reload button). Uncharged melee to single press right stick. And charged melee to single press RB. Uncharged melee is now bound to what most fps games use as melee. So if you play other fps games, it will feel more natural to uncharge melee stuff. It will take some getting used to using finisher with a double press but imo this is the best set up you can do for separating uncharged and charged melee’s on controllers. Hope this helps my fellow console players
16:35 personally, I recommend having both bound. Hold crouch is very useful for sliding or quick maneuvering tasks. Sometimes though, I want to maintain a crouch without having to constantly keep a key pressed down. Usually to free up a finger for pressing other binds, while I'm wanting to stay crouched because of low height cover, that I peek out of only by moving to the side, and not uncrouching.
A tip for powered melee button layout, if you have paddles you can move it to a Dpad button and just make all emotes a double press on the same Dpad buttons this way you can power melee with a paddle and leave normal melee on the Rb/r1
Bonus tidbit about console/controller FoV: it REALLY can mess with how the aa strength *feels*. In PvE, it doesn’t matter that much. However, it does in crucible. At 105 FoV, using Ace, aa felt almost nonexistent. At 95 FoV, what I usually run, Ace’s aa feels strong again. My guess is this occurs due to the aa cone staying the same in-game size regardless of FoV, but it *feels* stronger at lower FoV settings, even if it’s artificially so.
This was fantastic! I thought I had most of this figured out already, but you added a lot of nuance that I was missing, I'll be making some adjustments (and subscribing). Stellar work!
@@CastleContent hahaha I’m gonna get the expansion just don’t have a lot of time to play so we’ll see how it goes. I have to congratulate you man, super happy to see how much your channel has grown!
For my keybinds and they have never let me down, I had to find the perfect setup, now I'm not traditional so I always mentally ponder my "per action" (which finger for which action) I jump with Right Click, I ADS with Space, Melee with X, MW Down for Dodge, MW Up for Heavy Attack, Middle MW Button for Charging Grenade (R for throwing them) F for Powered Melee and lastly Left Ctrl for Super, if you're feeling bold, these binds may aid you tactically ^_^
if your a controller user i'd recommend binding charged melee to clicking the right stick and uncharged to the right bumper (rb/r1). then id rebind the interact button to clicking the left stick as sprinting will only happen if your moving forwards so it can serve as a dual function button. this replicates the melee style 2 that castle content has shown.
Great video! Your explanations for each setting and why they matter put this leagues above all the other videos I've seen on this topic. This should be the go to for newbies.
You don't even need to set DIM as your homepage on the steam browser, as long as you don't close the tab or window and just press shift+tab again to close the menu, it will always open with the last tabs you had open, even persisting between different gaming or turning your pc off or anything, this is legit one of the best additions steam ever made
i have an ultra wide and destiny is one of the few games that allows you to move the hud like this with screen bounds being able to have the immersive fov experience of an ultrawide and the hud bounds of a standard monitor on top of the amazing visuals and scenery we get in destiny i highly recommend trying destiny on an ultrawide atleast once
This is a great video. I have long been bugged by the auto melee inconsistencies, and this has finally prompted me to just map to two different buttons. It's requiring some major muscle memory re-working, but it's so much nicer having direct control over it!
Genuinely one of the best, most helpful, visually impressive and useful Destiny 2 videos I've ever seen. You've got my instant subscription. Thank you for putting in so much time, effort and hard work into this video. I know I'm not the only one that found it massively helpful.
Great info. I'd like to add that centering the crosshair makes the ground take up much more screen space which means you might not see that enemy above you. Bungie started lowering the crosshair back in Halo 2 because most people run around with the reticle pointed at the ground, so this effectively gives you more vertical FOV. It's usually worth leaving it lowered IMO unless you sit really close to your monitor, like on PC.
Sorry, im not sabotaging years of muscle memory and industry standardization just to see a little bit more roof. You guys are going to regret all of this bungie doctrine bs once you decide to play a shooter that isnt on training wheels.
THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO!! since d1 I have been playing with mostly default settings and never knew the best settings for consoles. Hope you can make a video about what stats to prioritize for each character next!
Personally for melee binds, I like to run middle mouse as auto, 4 as charged, 5 as uncharged. I don’t see the other number keys often used in destiny so if you’re struggling for keys to use, maybe try this
Auto melee also messes up Hunter strand melee. If it's fully recharged by the time it comes back to you, and you just want to catch it, auto melee sometimes throws it away again if you don't release at just the right time.
a tip not alot of people talk about but is a huge QOL change is that auto melee works with glaives i personally c and e for my charged and uncharged respectively another thing is wind impulse causes some pretty bad shadow glitches with the foliage for me with an AMD 6700xt so if youre experiencing that turning it off could work
I had auto melee on since launch of d2... Never knew I could switch it up until a few months ago. Best change ever lol. Id get so mad when I wanted to use a charged melee but it would just zip me in close for a punch and get me killed XD.
You never disappoint my man! Jumping into the final shape after about a year off nice to have vids like this to make sure I’m optimizing going back in! ❤
Another suggestion for keybinds/button mapping is that you can use a combination of inputs. For example, I can swap to my heavy weapon by pressing X + A at the same time. Great video 😎👍
On the melee settings, I use controller, so when they introduced Finishers and Charged/Uncharged melee bindings, I kept my charged melee as RB (previously auto) and made my uncharged RS click. But my finisher was already RS long click (default) and this made me find weird interactions between melee and finisher across different classes. Warlocks can cancel a successful uncharged melee attack into a finisher, while Hunter and Titan cannot cancel a successful melee, but they can cancel a whiffed/missed melee. I would imagine this is leftover code from when Warlocks used to have a slower melee attack than Titan and Hunter but with more range, but the range and speed was standardized across all classes. I changed my finisher bindings to be LS click + RS click, but then they introduced Prismatic and that's the default binding to activate Transcendence, so now my finisher is LS double click (which still causes problems sometimes because my controller is broken)
Thank you for this vid, its helped me a bit on console but more importantly it helped one of my friends on PC fix a multitude of issues, i wasnt subscribed before but thank the stars this showed up in my feed because now i am, thank you for the vid
The double tap square to finish I BEEN on that. Glad you shared it with folks. Allowing R3 to be melee and R2 to be charged melee! I will try that dpad down key for heavy on bosses!
I have a duel sense edge controller. So I have 2 extra buttons on the back. I have the left back button binded to the left d pad, which is also binded my finisher. On my right back button, I have the bottom d pad binded, which is also binded to my charged melee. The reason Left and Down dpads are binded to my back button is because of Prismatic. I used to have Up and Down but for some reason you can't bind those 2 to activate Prismatic.
22:35 If you plan on running the salvations edge and disable shadows entirely you will not be able to see the shapes on the back wall during the 4th encounter.
Quick note about full auto firing, it makes canceling a bow shot super difficult, because it tries to knock another arrow as soon as you cancel the first one. If I'm using a bow I turn the setting off. Every other weapon I leave it on.
Honestly, for pvp especially, I actually vote against centering the reticle for the sake of not blinding yourself to just that little bit more of your screen
some are worse than others, but it's kind of 2-fold cause it also distracts your brain in the middle of a fight depending on the timing (imo) -- preference plays a role for sure
That chromatic abberation thing has been bugging me ever since I got a new monitor; there's like, a little red line outside my radar all the time. Thanks for the heads up about fixing that!
I play controller on PC, my key binds for melee are regular RB for charged, click in right thumbstick for uncharged, finisher is double click left thumbstick. This keeps alot of the melee the same, the only difference is you get the option to use uncharged when desired, and a small downside is that if you dont have a melee charge RB wont do anything.
Film grain, motion blur, and aberration are things that playing on pc for years has trained me to look for and turn off the moment I boot up a new game for the first time. I truly, genuinely, do not understand film grain and aberration being added to everything. Motion blur I kind of get for when people want to just crank up the "cinematic" visuals to record footage or get cool screenshots but the other two almost always look better if added in post in those situations anyway. On the topic of MnK sensitivity, I've found that for the vast majority of people, the optimal sens combination is whatever it takes to make a full 360 rotation of your character in game take about 12 inches of lateral movement across your mouse pad. Normally this requires dropping the in-game sensitivity drastically.
Witch Queen is when Bungie advised they actually fixed their broken HDR implementation on PC. It’s important to know that HDR requires support on your GPU and on your display, and it needs to be calibrated. HDR also works better on screens that actually have good HDR support with decent black levels, like on OLED TV’s, and not like HDR400 rated monitors with crappy brightness levels and backlighting. Basically if you have a good HDR screen, don’t just switch off HDR in-game. Take the time to set it up properly and it will look great. Just don’t expect HDR game capture to play nicely with SDR capture devices or for uploading to RU-vid.
something to keep in mind for the radar: if you're like me and forget to check your radar a lot, putting on the darkest setting can help make a habit of checking it.
HDR does not auto turn off or on for me. I constantly change it on or off depending how often I am alt-tabbing as Windows is funky with alt-tabbing HDR. I suggest checking your Windows HDR settings auto HDR and all that. It def should not be turning on and off.
Today i learned people struggled to see people on the radar Will say on controller changing yr melee settings does mess with certain artifact objects and the glaive melee that i dint think ever rlly got fixed where some use the standard uncharged melee key while others use the charged one and it’s very inconsistent Never rlly understood people who dont use controller vibration or recommend turning it off, i find it’s actually more useful and helpful when it’s on personally
Ok I'm gonna give you a good tip for the Melee button so please pin this if you set CHARGED MELEE to LONG PRESS and UNCHARGED MELEE to DOUBLE PRESS with AUTO MELEE unbound you can use the same button it works like a charm it's perfect for console players
You vid about settings came out at the perfect time. Just last week my drivers were fucked so i had to remove em and reinstall. Everything in game was reset because of that.
13:26 Had no idea this setting exist in D2. Was always wondering why I have the drift in other games but not in D2. More games should add this to their settings.
Socom had this on PS2, not sure why devs literally have this hidden in the background for gamers instead of giving them options to adjust. Cod and battlefield have had these settings since PS3 days, Bungie was just super slow with the obvious
Make sure to put charged melee on R1 / RB, uncharged melee and finisher on pressing in the right stick. Congratulations controller players can now do both types of melee (If you need uncharged melee and not finishers, map finisher to D-pad down and unbind the emote for that button)
aaand about left handed players on MnK while not utilizing wasd. There are still things, I can not properly configure, e.g. Bungie has some hard coded keybinds. I.e. the menu navigation only allows for wasd, not taking your configured movement keys into account.
I wish that cross play option actually worked in PVP. When you have it on you just don't find any lobbies at all. I think it'll only connect to other players that also have it set to off rather than just matching you w\ other PS players regardless of their settings. And trials just straight up won't let you play if you have it off.
Best explanation of this encounter I've seen. Thank you. One question: How is the timer extended? Is that automatic after completing an encounter or is there something specific I have to shoot, or what exactly?
Sound advice is good for tryhards, but maaan, D2 has one of the best in-game music, so i'll recommend to adjust volumes, but not turning it totally off
honestly sprint toggle or hold is user preference... you can nail the timing with hold very easy... if not than that's skill issue XD I'm using hold cos it gives me more control over my speed which helps as well when playing PvP and PvE both.. my inger is naturally sitting on shift and instad of removing the finger from shit to press ctrl i just lower my finger and use both at the same time... its gonna help you hit all 11 slides perfectly every time... but it all comes down to personal pref.. I'm used to this from Destiny and other games having it on toggle is unnatural and slows me down by a lot...
there was a time where the game incorrectly applied HDR; if things look good to you, you're fine, but a lot of new players boot up D2 for the first time and the image is AWFUL, due to incorrect HDR application so I just wanted to raise awareness. You're probably fine as is.
Chromatic aberration and film noise are an order of magnitude cheaper in terms of performance than motion blur, which itself isn't really all that expensive. You might want to disable these settings, but unless you're running an absolute potato far below minimum spec, performance shouldn't be the reason why.
For full-auto melee, I've noticed I can't do the LLH Lament combo as easily. Probably just a skill issue but it's one I can't really convince myself to put on "On." I've personally set Powered Melee to Left Bumber (I'm on PS5) with right stick-inward being my finisher/unpowered melee (had to teach myself to do a small hop in mid-air to get finishers when in pve but other than that, it's helped me avoid using solar hunter knives when I didn't want to in pvp).
Been playing for years with 3600 True DPI. 600 DPI with 6 in game sensitivity... and a 0.6 ADS modifier. Reason why is cause I have extremely shaky/twitchy hands. Makes it really annoying for trying to practice because, no matter how much time I put in, I can't ever feel truly consistent :(
