These are beautiful cars, to bad Rolls doesn't have this elegance anymore.

Yes you are right! Today´s Rolls Royce are massive and bulky, they look like oil tanks on wheels. But there´s one part that never looked elegant in these cars of any age, the steering wheel. They all have an almost lorry-like appearance. Maybe that´s what those kinds of customers expect?

My father had one of the first Silver S in dark blue with red leather. It smelt out of this world sitting in it and the build quality was just amazing. He, my father had two more SS and they were not really quite as well build as the first. The SS was really a very good compact luxury car. I first drove the SS when I was eighteen (alone). I would go for miles around Northumberland when I was supposed to go for a 15 minute pick me up mission. Really great fun in the 70's.

ONCE UPON A TIME... Rolls-royces and Bentley's were built under the same roof. Bentley is still at CREW in that same building we see here and Rolls-Royce new factory is at GOODWOOD now.

Where is the commentary, sound? I was looking forward to it. I've driven Rolls Royces since I was 22 years of age (now 71), the ones I drove range from a 1922 20HP - one hell of a lot of fun to drive - up to a near new 1989 Silver Spur - THAT was a magnificent car! They're not all really speed machines in those days but VERY elegant in my view and I loved them all. The new ones? modern, stylish - to a point, definitely faster in comparison and VERY big on gimmicks. Not for me thanks, I LOVED the Silver Clouds the best. Just amble along at 80 MPH (around 148 KPH?) but at 40 MPH they just wafted along. Beautiful. PLEASE, if you can, add sound to this clip. That's my story so many thanks for the clip and take care.

Ah, a gentler age. The only thing I could hear was the clock ticking.

I must agree as I also loved the Silver Clouds most. Although the engine problems in the early V8's (crankshafts) were not excusable.
