New Sonic Online Game COMING SOON, & SEGA Nearly ABANDONED Sonic As Mascot?? 

What do y'all think's gonna be the New Online P2P Sonic game? I'm still guessing it's gonna be a Mario & Sonic Olympics game, but who knows!

People definitely were in denial about Sonic losing its relevancy back then. SEGA were going to release Frontiers a year early and Iizuka had to talk them out of it. If it wasn't for the movie franchise we would be in a HORRIBLE place right now.

Sega was responsible for NEARLY killing off Sonic as a franchise with unfair deadlines, low budget costs, cutting staff into fractions, unnecessarily firing people for failing to cope with harsh conditions. They are the reason we got games like 06 and Forces, and if it weren't for Iizuka, Frontiers could have joined the line too, and they really have the audacity to pretend as if "Sonic was always like that". If it weren't for the fanbase, Sonic WOULD have died years ago along with SEGA. Sonic LITERALLY holds SEGA together. To shove it off is like removing cars from Gran Turismo 7

Sega ain't got noone to blame but themselves for Sonic losing his luster over the last decade or so. I stopped playing his games for years after generations. But im glad he's being well received once again. Truly, we are in the Renaissance 👌

The Sonic Movie saved Sonic’s job as SEGA's Mascot.

I, as a Sonic fan, find it pretty hard to believe that Sega nearly abandoned its own mascot. However, it also makes me glad to know that they stuck with Sonic as a mascot.

That explains the Sonic droughts we had after Boom, Sega didn't view sonic as Sega Mascot anymore and just wasn't the focus of the company at that time, that's just crazy, it just sounds so unbelievable to me.

8:00 The online Sonic game most likely is the game concept Sonic Team pitched way back in 2018. They pitched around 6 concepts, two of them leaked - the one who became Sonic Frontiers, and the other was a for a MMO Sonic with global leaderboard.

Literally this. We ain't ask for Hyper to be back everytime. Or any other one off forms. Just Hyper. That's it. Flynn's gets his flowers for trying to bring the form back, but I'll keep saying his writing peaked when Sega didn't have him by the balls with a vice grip. Makes no sense that they're hellbent on straying from Shonen tropes yet still dive face first in all the others.

All I can say Sega-Atlus almost ditching Sonic as the mascot is kinda sad, the reason why the "Meta" era happened was because of games like Sonic 06 and how Sonic Fanboys where very vocal at that time because of how Sonic Heroes deviated from a winning formula and Sonic 06 came out yeah we know the rest, I think it was the effect of the dark age why Sonic games where low budget (yeah Sonic Unleashed, Sonic Colors OG and Sonic Generations was good and the IDW comics are awesome) but Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric happened which really led to Sonic Forces being lackluster. Sonic Movie 1 and Sonic Movie 2 showed that this series can thrive post Sega consoles and I'm very glad that Sega-Atlus is taking this IP seriously and Sonic Frontiers and Sonic Prime showed that and Sonic games are going to be high budgeted, I didn't want Sega-Atlus treating Sonic like how Activision-Blizzard Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon or how Micro$oft treats Banjo-Kazooie, Perfect Dark and Conker.

I don't see much issue with multiple forms of Sonic related to the games like excalibur sonic. It's just something fun and cool to look forward to.

Sonic has always been the face of Sega and the mascot of Sega. I just feel like that guy saying that Sonic is now the face of Sega was another way of saying that Sonic is now doing well again just like the other franchises were that they wound up paying much more attention too due to Sonic not doing so well but that doesn't change the fact that Sonic is their main mascot. People especially Sonic fans would RIOT if Sega ever thought to actually abandon Sonic as their mascot no matter what other IPs are doing more well than him. Sega knows that themselves so the thought of them almost abandoning Sonic as a mascot is very career killing for Sega so no offense it’s very wrong to think that they would do so.

Missed opportunity. That could have been a nice surprise as far as Super forms. Why rushed things, and wastes potential like that? It’s hard for them to go all the way in certain areas.

Jet Set Radio is getting an online game soon too. Not only did we get leaked footage and screenshots, but Sega has been talking about it along with Crazy Taxi being big new online games. They might be doing this for all of their big IPs moving forward.

I'm really disappointed at how Sega's been treating the Sonic franchise from not including Hyper Sonic in Frontiers to the recent low budget games to their usual habit of rushing. And from the sound of it, Hyper Sonic being cut wasn't even because Frontiers was slightly rushed. It was simply because Sega flat out said, "No." WHY?! The entire game was building up to that with a variety of Guardian mini-bosses, each Titan having an epic song by the lead vocalist of Sleeping with Sirens (save for supreme), and they top it all off with a reskin of the hacking levels? Granted, that last part was rushed so I understand that Sonic Team couldn't help it. But its all the more reason why Sega needs to fix their rushing problem and allow Sonic Team to elevate the Sonic games. Thank goodness for Takashi Iizuka for stepping in and delaying Frontiers, as well as Sonic Team for attempting to deliver the Sonic franchise to new heights. Hopefully with Sonic back to being the main Sega IP, they'll get back to treating their mascot with care. Also, I'm looking forward to that short tomorrow. Starline and Surge in anime form? Let's go.

Not surprising that Hyper Sonic was scrapped in Froniters cuz they did the same thing for Mania I believe. Gonna make a lengthy comment so sorry but there just alot I gotta say. While I dlget what Sonic Team's point for Hyper Sonic, at the same time, I don't think bringing back Hyper Sonic would cause a power lvl issue. They still could have used Hyper Sonic or a new transformation for the final boss of Frontiers since literally they had Sonic use Super Sonic to defeat Giganto in the first half of the game. If they are worried that they will face the DBS problem where they have to find a way to measure Super/Hyper Sonic power lvl and have to find a way to keep the final boss hype for the next 3d title, then I get it but I don't think this franchise have to worry about that especially since literally the strongest foe Sonic n gang ever fought was Solaris still and the games final bosses after don't compare since Solaris needed to be defeated by 3 Super Hedgehogs☠. The real reason DBS have the "power lvl is bs" problem really because of the antagonists Goku n gang have to fight each arc. Legit since they went to Godhood, the creator have to find new ways to keep the final boss stronger n more menacing for Goku n gang, which led to bs like SSJ Trunks Rage, 17 n Broly keeping up with SSB lvl, Beast Gohan, and more asspull examples. Sonic doesn't really have to face this issue cuz its mostly him enjoying the fast pace adventure and beating any monster that is a treat to earth, rather than him training for a new form in order to become the strongest fighter around. Plus we got the typical Sonic defeats any plan Eggman comes up with, which nowadays he rarely needs to use Super Sonic to defeat him. And more importantly, this is a gaming franchise, not an anime franchise. The appeal of Sonic is going through lvls in a fast pace, not Sonic n gang training to be powerful unlike DB. While yes it would be cool for Sonic to have combat like Frontiers and Sonic Team finally utilities Super Sonic powers for gameplay unlike the past games, at the same time the core of Sonic is the fun fast pace platforming style. Sonic Team doesn't always have to keep using Hyper Sonic or even Super Sonic to make the final boss hype cuz probably a hot take, I think Colors Wii Final Boss was actually fire n perfect example of this. Yes the story was ass but if it got the writing of the Adventure or Unleashed, then I think Colors Final Boss would get more love from the fandom. That final boss to me was a good way to make the final act feel epic since you gone through the story freeing wisps and now the wisps help Sonic defeat the final foe (Plus escape through a somewhat black hole). If Sonic Team makes something similar but with good writing n no wisps, then I think they are good for the next 3d game. Plus they can do different simply ways to make the final boss epic for future Sonic titles like Eggman finds a new power that improves his final creation, new character helps Sonic defeat the final boss (Kinda like Blaze, Shadow, n Silver), another cute creature like the wisps helps Sonic defeat Eggman or new villan, give Sonic new abilities for his base n Super form to defeat the final boss, or better finally let Sonic's friends actually help by getting to play as them and use their Super Forms if needed for the final boss (And no don't do want Heroes done with Tails n Knuxs at the end). Plus when the time is right to have a grand scope final ending, then they could use Hyper Sonic or a new transformation. If Sonic Team is worried about Hyper Sonic would make Super Sonic feel irrelevant and more folks would want Hyper Sonic more, then they could just make like SSB Kaioken where the Hyper form is powerful but its also limited and it drains Sonic's energy alot so Sonic would rarely have to use it. While for new transformation, just make it a one time form like Secret Rings n Black Knight. If Sonic Team utilities each of these notes for new Sonic titles, then they won't have to fear Sonic becoming a fan service mess like DBS.

I'm an RPG nut and Persona 5 brought me into the Persona/SMT franchise. I had never played any of the games in that series before. I just wanted a good turn based RPG and Persona 5 looked cool as hell. Square Enix wasn't giving me an RPG like that. Nintendo sure as heck wasn't. lol I mean yeah Octopath Traveler was good, but I mean like a full 3D RPG. Add that to the excellent use of jazz music which was right up my alley and the amazing visuals and use of color, I was sold DAY ONE.

We have to understand that Hyper Sonic is not an intended Sonic's transformation, neither the Super Emeralds. Sonic Team said in an interview, that the only reason they made Super Emeralds was to give some bonus to people who buys Sonic & Knuckles, that way it wouldn't be that similar to Sonic 3. Because they made that "stimulus" they have to follow that line and made a new transformation, Hyper Sonic. So, get this clear, Sonic Team didn't want to make Hyper Sonic, they did it to incentivize the buy of the new game that was too similar to the previous. Once we understand that, we will stop craving for Hyper Sonic. It was just marketing! If we follow the path of new transformations, we will end up like DBZ.

That's because Sega japan never saw Sonic as the bonafide company mascot. They saw his success as being tied with america. The game was successful in the west but never as successful in japan and that's been the problem. Sonic was retired before during the Saturn era then they brought the character back for the dreamcast and the sales alone proved Sonic's importance to Sega. But since going third party and Sega's focus on japan the character hasn't been important. They were creating Sonic games in order to keep a hold in the american market. Also the cheaper Sonic games came back with huge returns for them like Sonic Mania and Sonic Dash for mobile. What changed was the movies and the new CEO of Sega realizing that Sega needs to start focusing on the global market again instead of japan. And Sonic can help with that as what we seen with the sales of Sonic Frontiers.

To be honest I wonder that rovio games would bring back all angry birds games in app stores.

i can see why they dont want hyper sonic to be used, as it could end up potentially making super sonic useless (just look what db did with goku's older forms), but they should just have it as a special thing that rarely appears

6:44 not in my case. I knew Sonic had lost its relevancy due to being more low budget, but I still thought that Sonic would be SEGA's mascot for the sake of recognition. Even I could tell Persona and Yakuza was making more money than Sonic being sold at full price, to the point it felt like either IP could've replaced Sonic as the mascot imo

The story might have been rushed but it was the best since atleast unleashed in my opinion.

Sonic games should always take as much time as they need to be finished, with no deadlines to stop them from being high-quality. Sonic Frontiers is a step in the right direction, and they shouldn't release games early.

I don't agree at all with Hypersonic. Super sonic is already supposed to be the ultimate form. Hyper sonic doesn't offer anything new that super sonic has and I don't want sonic to turn into dragon ball with its transformations. They definitely could have handled frontiers story better but hyper sonic isn't the answer.
