These evolutions did not disappoint! Middle stage starters can be quite tricky, but you built upon the first stages nicely and managed to make all three really appealing, whilst maintaining that 'awkward' and transitional quality to the designs. As for the final stages, they make a pretty cohesive trio and definitely convey that forces of nature theme you mentioned. The Grass starter was my favourite of the previous video, and I think my choice would remain the same when it comes to the full evolution! Such a unique body plan for a starter, with very little anthropomorphism but still loads of personality. I like that it's clearly snail/slug inspired but more monstrous and its own kind of creature, taking the banana slug concept to its fullest and then some. Awesome how the stalk-horn carries through to the end and gives it a really cool face alongside the feelers. Perhaps my only criticism would be that the shrubbery on Fermolosk's back feels a little tacked on? I think having rotten, noxious fumes coming out of the holes would help convey the poison typing further, and just have a scattering of moss or leafage on it's shell/around the openings. Lotorage was not where I expected the Fire starter design to go, but the hulking, savage proportions and Fighting type makes for a cool subversion. I was expecting either a slender and sly Dark type route if you'd leaned into the thieving raccoon basis, or a plump and gentle Fairy type for a mischievous and magical tanooki focused idea. I did like the look of the huge tail slung over the shoulder that appeared in the drawing process, but removing it was ultimately a smart move given how top heavy the final design is. Great fire effect on the shoulders, and the swirl motif of the fur adds some nice, simple detail. As much as Cerbubble was my least favourite of the trio, the idea to make the Water starter evolve into a wizard because of the foam looking like a beard is a genius payoff. I think if the first stage incorporated some bubbles/foam somewhere it would up the cohesiveness of the whole line, but that's hindsight for you! I like how Crustamancer's silhouette stands out from other crustacean pokemon, between the wide carapace, claw shape and wizard details. You'd think giving a starter pokemon a very reserved, almost inert expression would be a bad idea, but it does make sense for a focused magic user and as such lends it a certain pesonality - plus, the moments when he does open his eyes and mouth would be all the more impactful. My one gripe with the design would be the light blue speckles on the darker parts of the shell, which I think should either be a more consistent pattern, or take a 'less is more' approach. Excellent video overall, and I look forward to the rest of the pokedex!
I'm already picking Bannanago. Don't get me wrong, I love the way Pireguma and Cerbubble turned out, but I loved bannanago from the start, so he's going on my team.
Long live crustomancer, the most powerful wizard of the wind and sea. May the word of the crustaceans ring high within our hearts, and keep us warm in the cold.
I never thought I would like a banana slug Pokemon but you did an amazing job on this one! The fire raccoon is such a simple idea that you designed wonderfully. The shiny on that line are superb!!! The crab was a fun idea but you got me hyped on an electric water crab with tasers for claws lol. Overall I think the fire line is my favorite and would be my pick in this region.
I watched your videos for 2hrs straight last night before bed, your vids are awesome! Can't believe you only have 10k subs! I figured you were several hundo K.
If I had a nickel for every time I watch someone make a garden snail starter, I'd have two nickels. Not a lot of course, but it's interesting that it happened twice. The first time I remember seeing one was Subjectively's Gastronaut. I'm glad I chose Bananago, because Fermolosk looks pretty neat! I could see it having Harvest for it's hidden ability. The other two starters surprised me quite a bit. I had a better idea of what Cerbubble would become than Pyroguma. So I was shocked to see it become a wizard! Crustamancer's beard is a fun touch, almost reminiscent of G-Max Kingler. Lotorage? I had flashbacks with it's final type, but it does fit with the other starters' types. Fighting is also one of the more vague types, so... Yeah. Also saw one of the joint themes coming when you mentioned DnD. But overall, I like this bunch!
I was going to pick lotorage but I can’t bring myself to pick a fire fighting type….though it is a much better design than the majority of fire starters. These are all great, loving the series
Your rendering style is borderline perfect. Concepts behind each of them are amazing. Design n silhouettes are dynamic and recognizable. You super underrated and talented. Only critique I’d probably have is the color palettes. I think it needs more contrast, something to accent the main color scheme. Like how sobble line has that splash of yellow, and Venusuar has the pink flower. I feel like it’d make it look more dynamic as well has have more of a legit starter Pokémon feel.
Okay, while all of these guys are awesome. I HAVE to choose Crustamancer. He's just so cool! Also, name idea: Coash. Combining the words coast and lush, for the beaches and lush vegetation.
While I do think these are really strong pokemon designs, there's a few changes I would make to make them seem more like starter pokemon. For starters (No pun intended) Slugripe should definitely have green as its main color. I know your concept was a banana ripening and then going bad, but all starters have the color that represents their type as their main all the way through the line This lets new players understand types better and just make it more clear at a glance the typing. Fermolusk, while it is very cool (And probably would be my pick) has too many small lines and little details that almost make it seem like a legendary. Try to go for more general shapes to avoid the design looking too complicated. I have no complaints about Tepinuki, I think you did a great job at making a believable second stage starter that doesn't feel like just the awkward teenage phase! The wide top body and odd head placement of Lotorage make it feel very smushed down, making the silhouette hard to read. However, I love the way you stylized the fire on its shoulders, it feels very consistent with gamefreak while still being unique I LOVE Cracalite, I think the way you gave it a wizard's hat without making it look like it's just wearing a hat was amazing, and its personality is just so fun. Really great job Nevermind then, Crustamancer is my pick! It does bring back the tiny details like on Fermolusk, though admittedly to a lesser extent. And honestly, that's all my complaints for Crustamancer, once again, I think it's a really strong design! I hope you found my criticism helpful, because I really love your work and want you to grow!
Not only that, Feromolusk design has nothing that screams Poison Type at first glance (Which should be a requirement for starter Pokemon imo). So i personally would make some spots on Feromolusk purple (Not all) and put some purple shadowing amongst the green, to make it seem the grass is poisonous. My problem with Crustamancer isn't the concept... its that it looks way to much like 2 existing mons that it doesn't feel starter anymore (Body shape of Klawf and the beard of Kingler and even the open claw). I personally would wrap the beard around the head and then have some flow over the head, as if it seems it has a beard, but is also aging (Hence, final starter evolution). This would even tie more into the wizard theme, since the majority of ancient wizards (If not all), are depicted having long white hair.
amazing stuff! I'm thinking Kerbubble is going to be my starter for this region! For Cracalite's name, I think spelling it "Cracolyte" makes more sense since that's closer to how acolyte is spelled.
Great video! All three of the Starters' middle and final evolution designs are so amazing. I love the Bannanago line so much. Fermolosk looks so cool and majestic, in my personal opinion. I would definitely have a Fermolosk on my team if it was real!
I'd pick crustamancer. It is QUITE intimidating but also hilarious.. I'd also imagine there stats going like this Crustamancer had LARGE physical defence and a larger special attack But slow Lotorage would be a physical attacker with a middling defence and good physical attack And finally fermollusk would have a prominently special defence and HP with a cripplingly low speed For signature moves Crustamancer: psycho bubble:water: a maelstrom of bubbles that can weaken enemies special defence...a reference to how rain and storms REALLY hurt buildings over time Fermollusk: mycelshield:grass: this move doesn't deal a lot of damage but it raises fermollusk special defences and has a chance to poison. Lotorage:wild hiest: fire: this attack is a fire type outrage that makes lotorage use the enemies held item.
Once again Jon has impressed me. I’m honestly not surprised anymore. Amazing job Jon! I’m picking Kerbubble but I’d probably trade a Pyroguma from another console if it was a game 😅
I like all of them, but the way Lotorage is posed makes it look a bit flat and and harder to get a grasp on its overall body shape. Fermolosk is my favorite. Cool region.
Dude, these designs are some of the best youve ever made, amazing job! If these were starters in a real game, I think id have to have all three on my team. Amazing job, cant wait to see the rest of the region!
Neat, so the theme for the starters is effectively ends up being the abilities for the starters: Overgrow, Blaze, and Torrent. I love the final stages for all three. I can totally see them being animated in anime and in-game model. I wasn't feeling Slugripe, but Fermolosk has that near draconic look to it which helps convey its power as a starter a LOT. Meanwhile, Crustamancer is just ready to Bubblebeam you into submission like "Hold still, sonny". I like the design for Lotorage, but I don't think I would pick it. I think I'm still too mentally scarred from that era of Fire/Fighting type starters (with Incineroar giving us a good fright by skirting that line as a professional wrestler). Great work all the way around. I'll definitely be sticking around for more content.
What about Gladeus or Gladius region? As in Everglades? Gladius is a type of sword but it sounds like Glade, and really, Florida can look a bit like a very old sword, maybe rusted in an interesting way, bent a bit?
Oh I want to add that Gladeus also has Deus in it which means god so if you have a deity Pokemon planned for this region, it could be interesting to have it share a name with the region. Florida is so well known for life, it could be a life themed god tier Pokemon who shares its essence with the people and Pokemon around it, in a similar way as Arceus, splitting a part of itself . . . Sorry, it's your fakemon series and I feel like I'm . . . sorry for that 😅
While i like the Crustamancer concept, i feel like its body shape looks to much like Klawfs. While that doesn't have to be a bad thing, its beard also resembles Gigamax Kingler. So for the concept, i feel like Crustamancer doesn't feel unique enough to capture that vibe of starter Pokemon we are normally getting. My initial thought was that it should be Psychic type because of its Wizard concept.... but that would have made it to similair to Delphox (Who is also part Psychic) and it would give it an unfair advantage over the other 2 starters, so Fairy is the best next thing. Lotorage design is simply incredible. Its disctinct enough from other bear like Pokemon, even from Bewear, due to having a different body shape (And before anyone comes at me that Raccoons ain't bears, Lotarage's design is clearly a mix of both, which isn't uncommon in Pokemon anyways, not even for starter Pokemon). I have a feeling some people are gonna be: Ughh... another Fire/Fighting starter, while i don't mind it, especially taking in mind its concept. Fermolosk is also a incredible fun design. However, considering its design, its probably the tank of the three, which might make it to similair usage wise to Venusaur, considering both are Grass/Poisons. There is also the thing that typing wise, most, if not all starters have something that relates to both typings, to make it easier at first glance they are starters. So Fermolosk screams part Rock/Ground to me more than part Poison. I think having some purple spots and a purple shadow mixed in with some of the green grass, making it look the grass is poisonous, would make the design even better imo, because subtle change is also change and doesn't have to be bad change either. I don't have anything to say about the middle stages, since they are all so good, since they all capture that awkwardness middle stages should have, but also have a cuteness factor.
I don't know how far into this idea you are, but I have some neat ideas for ice types. My fiance and I remembered that Florida has cool water springs. About 66f. You could have a ice legendary live under the springs and take that to an extreme degree, or my fiance said a rock or ground legendary that opens up ice caverns under the region. We just thought it was a really neat idea as Florida is so expansive, but ice types would be difficult to implement.
I think Hangleerovra sounds like a cool and fitting name for this region, been a mix of the words "Hang" or "Hang out", because of how Florida is seen like a crazy almost upside-down state and hanging out is a common thing to do, "Tangle" for the same reason has the first word, "Tree" because of Florida's huge flora (much so that it's onto it's name since "Florida" literally has "Flora" there, just remove the "id" and there you have it!), and "Arvore", been tree on portuguese for the same previous reason, again for the second time!😂 But yeah, that was the best thing i could think of, now i have to dinner, so bye!👋
TLOU is also my favorite franchise!! For the final form of that banana I would make his eyes fully white, to give it a dead vibe or even cover it with mushrooms like a clicker
Cerbubble all the way! I always preferred water type Pokémon and grass type and may I say the final design! really wished that your starter Pokémon were actually in the Pokémon games 😢 also I personally think that crustamancer is the most coolest looking pokemon design I seen yet! with typhlosion getting a close second, you did amazing man! I can see how much hard-work, patience, and passion you put into this project keep it up man! You just got a new subscriber❤
Psychic being super effective against both poison and fighting would give Crustamancer a big advantage in rival battles. But that's fine because it is the best line I love them.
With this "Forces of Nature" theme you have to make a fourth starter-like pokemon based on either Storms, Sismic Quakes or Wind Fenomenons to represent earth or air, because sometimes the Plant element is different from the Earth one. I liked 4/6 of this pokemon from this video because i think that Bananago's first evo is to simple and plain compared to Fertilousk, so maybe making it larger and giving it some more details onto his upper-body might do the trick. While for my second problem, Tapenuki, i think he only resembles Lotarage in color and racoon fictures, but the rest doesn't really fits. I thinke Tapenuki should be larger on the upper body stand of the lower-half and have a more menacing and Analytic astatetic to reflect his courage-building personality, i think mixing it with his "beta" versions and use a bit of Raboot's designing might help! (Just a constructive critic, i'm not saying it's bad or something, just saying that it could be better.) I know that you used Subjectively's Maziah-Crabrawler's evo has a inspiration source for Crustamancer's pose just by seen it onto the video's cover! And talking about him, i think he could have either Magician, Mega Launcher, Shell Armor or Analytic for it's Hidden Ability. Both Magician and Analytic are both two very forgetable abilities and that fit his character, while Mega Launcher fits his dex entry and it's already used by other Crustace-pokemon been Clawtizer, and Shell Armor is self-explainatory (he is my choice btw). All heil the crab!
These starters are so cool, I have never drawn a fakemon but I think tepinuki could have little bits of flame since lotorage has so much, I just think tepinuki should start having some flame already since it’s the mid evo starter(also I think the grass type final evo should have some more plants since it is supposod to be overgrown but I think it doesn’t look to overgrown.)Sorry if I am being judgmental 😅Love your vid’s!
I love these 3 so much I don’t like that Lootorage is a fire/fighting type but other then that I love the design so much. Fermolosk is for sure my starter and a great start to my team.
I also made a florida-based fakemon region and the starters were a grass-type armadillo, a fire-type limpkin (I know thats an obscure animal, I do not care), and a water-type stingray (I know thats a fish, once again I dont care. Mudkip was literally called the mudskipper pokemon not the axolotl pokemon so whatever).
Here’s an idea for another design detail for crustamancer, if you ever redraw these or anything (which I don’t think is necessary, these designs are awesome and very well done, this is just a cool idea I had.) I think gems inserted into the metal bits on its claws (or really anywhere) could tie nicely into its inspirations! First, gems are often associated with the psychic type, with Espeon, Starmie, etc. it also ties into the sunken machinery idea as a common trope is for sunken machinery is to have some sort of treasure inside. And lastly, wizard’s staffs are often depicted with a gem of some sort inserted in them, making its claws have designs that invoke both heavy machinery and wizardry. I love crustamancers design the way it is, and honestly that might overcomplicate it. Especially depending on the colors (I imagine some sort of blue would be best to not clash too much, though I like the idea of purple too). I just wanted to share the idea since I think it fits well with all the ideas present for crustamancer!
May i suggest the name Girasol for the region? Florida is known as both the sunshine state and literally ‘the land of flowers’ so what better than the spanish word for sunflower?
lotorage looks like Endeavor's fursona edit: doesn't mean i don't like it or think i doesn't fit i said palafin looks like allmight made a dolphin fursona
I knew Bananago was going to evolve into a Grass/Poison. First starter to have that typing since the very first OG starters. I love the diamond-shaped elemental symbols used to represent the Pokémon's type. Did you design them or get them from somewhere? I do NOT regret choosing Cerbubble as my starter cause I love it's final evolution. Are you going to come up with original moves that only the three starters can use? You can call the region the Aflodri region, its an anagram for Florida.
You might need to change formolosk to grass dark so crustamancer doesn't just body the other 2 starters with super effective moves seeing as it's super effective vs both.
I know this seems to be a weird suggestion for a pokemon maybe for your evil Pokemon team you could have them have Pokemon inspired by Xenomorphs called Pokemorph or Xenomon.
The more starter evos have overt unifying themes, the more I think they look terrible, at least with the official gens. You kept them very subtle and integrated them in a way that lets each design shine on its own, and are enhanced by the reveal of the theme. It's a pretty sharp contrast to say gen 8. These look fantastic though, all three, especially Crustamancer, I'm not sure any existing starter could stand above it for me, but I am also a heavily biased crab enjoyer.
