A lot has to do with expanding from three lanes to four in most part of Sacramento while narrowing the Damm width… most trucks cannot even fit properly in their lanes
There are bad drivers everywhere -- do you think they just drive on 99? The 99 freeway is awful because it's partly just a highway and was never designed to carry so much traffic through urban and rural farming areas. Some of the on and off ramps are so poorly designed, it's almost absurd. I've driven all over California -- the 99 is always one of the most unpleasant to get stuck on for several hours. Once I get off the 99 to head East on the 58, I almost feel like shouting for joy. Far easier and safer driving on the 58 heading into Barstow, especially with the recent improvements.
Here is a thought: The road is an inanimate object. The road is only as dangerous as the drivers make it. Look at the statistics. Almost 99% of all accidents within the corridor are caused by the drivers. Speeding, aggressive driving, DUI driving and inattentive driving. Quit trying to blame Caltrans for idiot and careless drivers. Lay the responsibility where it belongs, on those drivers that make all roads in California unsafe by their own actions.
People don't learn to drive. It's made as simple as possible to get a DL, not to be a competent driver. Throw in the inbuilt entitlement to the 'right' to drive, lack of consideration, lack of awareness, doing anything else behind the wheel other than focussing on what they should be doing and you get avoidable collisions...they're not accidents.
@@user-zt6bt8dp2c Really? The population of Germany is about 83million. Their autobahns (freeways) are on the whole two and three lanes, yet they don't have the complete lack of competency that is seen every day on the freeways here. I would agree there is an issue with infrastructure in that entering and leaving freeways on the same strip of road is inherently dangerous and was thought up by someone who never drove. If freeways had twenty lanes in each direction there'd still be idiots needing to be at the front of the queue at all costs in case their bedroom prowess failed.
I am not surprised! One of the worse freeways I have been on. Accidents, dead animals, debris beyond anything I have seen. People living the side of the freeway and people crossing it like it's a street.
Hasn't Caltrans been trying to upgrade the route and add the part between Sacramento and I-5 at Grapevine to the Interstate Highway System as I-7 or I-9? What's going on with that?
Highway patrol don't clear objects on the freeway, i totaled my car because a semi tire was on the freeway.went over a slab of wood today in the fast lane still not removed
@@FPVFlier The road in third world countries like Vietnam and Thailand has better roads than California, but their roads are toll roads I rather have it that way well maintained
Traffic doesn't keep me away from Don luis restaurant its people breaking in to vehicles while you eat. Got $1800 worth of stuff stolen out of my truck over there
You can't view an entire road as dangerous. Especially a big highway or one that crosses multiple states. Some parts of the same road can be more dangerous than others but since it is one long road the statistics are just calculated for the whole road and not specific areas. Yes some drivers are reckless but lack of maintenance and rough terrain may also play a role.
I been driving between Merced CA up to Stockton and lodi up the 99 every day for almost 7 years for work 8 hours a day 6 days a week and there's a slowdown from an accident wat seems like every damn day, it's beyond dumb
This stat is pretty bogus. CA 99 is mostly 6 lanes and CA 1 is mostly 2. Obviously, your chance of dying while driving the 1 is much higher than a limited access highway like the 99, 91, 5, 80, or 101.
hm maybe I never hit it when it's crazy, I've seen traffic but I guess I mostly take it at night everyone drives super fast; which means they drive well
Merced county if anyone has driven is a disaster with all the delays, never ending road work and merging the engineer for that project should be fired and put in jail
WREKLESS DRIVERS, KIDS WITH THEIR CAMAROS AND CHARGERS THINKING IS A MOVIE. ROAD RANGES, PEOPLE PASSING YOU WHILE YOU ARE GOING 65 TO 70 MPH, THEY WANT TO GO AT 90MPH. MOSTLY ALL OF THIS IS BECAUSE PEOPLE COMMUTE AND CANT WAIT TO GO BACK SOUTH HOME, THEY SPEED LIKE HELL.
Its not a highway itself but the folks who drive along the highway are the real danger i drive many times on highway 99 in Central valley California and i saw many drivers drive 100 mph and some is tailgating you from behind plus some part's of it needs repairs and they need to make the highway 99 4 lanes or 5 lanes.
People in California get their drivers license from the California government. They end up being terrible drivers. Oblivious. Some people are using their smartphones while driving. When did people forget to not do that? When you're a pedestrian and walking around a Cali city, you start to notice how many drivers are not paying attention. Looking both ways before driving forward is something too many drivers can't do.
People blaming bad drivers exclusively are completely missing the point ... yes, there are aggressive idiots on the roads -- of course that's true! However, there are bad drivers everywhere -- do you think they just drive on 99?🙂 So why so many fatalities on 99? The 99 freeway is awful because it's partly just a highway and was never designed to carry so much traffic through urban and rural farming areas. Some of the on and off ramps are so poorly designed, it's almost absurd. I've driven all over California -- the 99 is always one of the most unpleasant to get stuck on for several hours. Isn't 99 a freeway, not a highway? There is a difference. It used to be a highway but is a freeway now... no offense meant but the media is "Un-Educating" us.
Highway 99 even at its starting point in Red Bluff Cal it sucks. 99 was poorly designed and needs to be analyzed and reconfigured to meet the lacking safety standards.
Funny how hwy 99 has a speed limit of 65 mph while I-5 has it at 75 mph yet there are less accidents. It's not speed people. It's dumb drivers that think that they're pro drivers making dumb decisions. Yes they do speed and I think any drivers going over 85+ mph constantly should get pulled over. No one needs to go that fast. I understand that you need to pass slower traffic but please do it responsibly. For the longest time I thought I-5 was full of crazy drivers since it could include out of state people but it's actually the people of California that I'm more afraid of now hence why hwy 99 is more dangerous.
hwy 99 isnt even close the most dangerous roads. the most dangerous part of central america is ths predatorial behavior of mass migrating of central americans born from central america into these areas. done in predatorial manner. its not hwy99 though.
From semi truckers to small cars drivers driving recklessly and help from the not law enforcement implementing the law well, what can we spect?. Bring those supers semis truckers not English and driving with the cousins drivers license 🙌🏼🤔😎💯
