An excellent video James. Am sure it would have helped you if someone else had been doing the filming instead of you having to handle the boat and look after the GoPro. You’re so calm and professional, your commentary superb. Many thanks 🙏

Are the center of those steering wheels weighted so they stay steady while you turn the wheel?

I'm not gonna say that I don't love what I do...having grown up into a marina business with my family, boats is all I've ever known. Once the sea is in your blood, very hard to get away from it!

Really interesting video. May I ask what tickets you have to enable you to drive such a large vessel as I am considering 20 to 24 meters but down in the Med? I worked many many years on superyachts as interior crew but only have basic day skipper RYA plus obviously STCW95, small boat handling, advanced fire-fighting, Radio VHF but my ability to drive such a vessel needs serious qualifications. I want to attend school but using my own yacht. Thank you.

If I asked you to park a 5,5 m Bentley Continental in a standard size wardrobe placed in a slippery ski slope you would probably nail it. Blindfolded. You are truly phenomenal in boat handling, it's a true pleasure to watch!
@wingcommanderdaltonwalton67
Is that roughly about £1k per hour at 26kn? I couldn’t think of a better way to burn cash…. If I had any! Brilliant vid,really enjoyed this one and thanks for simplifying everything for imbeciles like myself 👍🏻🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Keep these vid commin James! Good stuff, as a young mariner looking to venture into these bigger power yachts, it’s very fascinating to learn from u. In future vids, could you show more of the engine compartments and where breakers and such are located? Thanks!

I know it might sound stupid James, but why does super yachts never seem to have 360° reversing cameras and sensors
@TheVirtualYachtBroker
@TheVirtualYachtBroker Год назад
Not stupid at all but reality with every berth scenario being so often different, sensors wouldn't really be reliable. There are some first gen systems out there from Raymarine and Volvo which do offer this kind of capability (and I have tested both) but I think the tech has a long way to go before we will honestly see it as a "std fit". In terms of cameras, these are becoming a lot more common and yes I would have a full system on a boat of any size. Whether you boat with covers up/various overhangs that make it harder to see behind/to the side etc, they are a brilliant docking aid. In the grand scheme of overall purchase cost, they are insignificant and anything which brings the skipper confidence in close confines of a marina is well worth it!

James, our boat has a point to point navigation system by Garmin. We load the destination and it works the best route given our boat statistics. I think you said your chart plotter does not do that which surprises me but then I might have misheard? Also, for a 7 million yacht I wouldn't expect to use an iPad for navigation. I am so confused
@TheVirtualYachtBroker
@TheVirtualYachtBroker Год назад
Hi Richard, might have been misheard in the wind. All modern nav kit will do some kind of autorouting but they need a chart card in for detailed cartography. (which will be along the lines of how your Garmin works - good kit!) In this instance there is no card installed as boat not pdi’d or delivered to end user (she’s now off in the Med so the Capt will I’m sure have his own preference installed), so I’m running on my iPad for the purposes of just showing you were I am in the vid. We do a lot of passage planning on an iPad these days, the Navionics software is so good, I would (and do) happily run it for offshore deliveries. Often the boats I move around haven’t been fully commissioned, so I tend not to fully trust the kit.

Sir your iPad navionics chart cellular or WiFi ?
@TheVirtualYachtBroker
@TheVirtualYachtBroker 6 месяцев назад
Hey, it’s a cellular model as you need the gps inside (I’m not sure on the newer iPads if you also get this feature on a WiFi model and could then just tether to a mobile phone for map updates) but on my generation iPad this wasn’t the case.

Would it be possible for a guy to win the lottery, buy that boat, and with effort and learning, take it around the carribean for a winter with just him and his lady? No crew?

Can you own a yacht like that, get near a harbor and hire a captain to come aboard and dock it? How does that work?
@TheVirtualYachtBroker
@TheVirtualYachtBroker 22 дня назад
Up to about 90ft is realistic for a really experienced owner to operate without crew but I would say typically around 70ft you start to see more and more permanently crewed boats. It’s a lot more than just daily driving on a larger boat, it’s the daily cleaning/system checks/tidying beds etc that most owners want assistance with.
