In this episode we install a new ladder on the swim platform of our 1973 32 foot Luhr's sportfisher. Giving it a whole new look as well as functionality. We will go over the steps we took in order to complete the task as well as the materials required. A little late, but the box on the end of the transmission appears to be a power take off. Or a way to use the engine to power a pump or generator of some sort. Basically the engine would run at a high idle and the transmission would be in neutral and you would engage the power take off and it would start a pump or a generator. It's a way to get one engine to run two different things.

Have you done a knock-knock test on your transom, inside and out...stringers? Clank to a thud is bad. Very common to have rot around bolt throughs, mounts and stringer weep holes. If not count yourself as very lucky and if you do there’s no easy way. Sorry, Git-Rot is for very small areas that are dry and still have a lot of cellulose remaining, but that’s very rare. If you must use a penetrating epoxy, Git Rot is the only one that I know of the doesn’t use a volatile thinner that ends up trapped and harming the curing of the epoxy. Rule of thumb; The rot you initially discover is usually 4 times as extensive. Most of the time rot just has to be removed and new wood feathered in and glassed.

I think we might have gotten lucky on this one, I did go around doing the knock knock test and everything sounded solid. We will eventually have a survey done on the boat (once we get further progress) and they will be able to give us the definitive answer 👍🏻🤞🏼

I am fairly certain that they still make Paragon Transmissions so you might contact Paragon for the bellhousing and you could potentially ask them what that box on the end of the other transmission is

I stand corrected. And turns out they do not produce to Paragon Transmissions anymore. However it seems that there are places that specialize in vintage boat carts and finding bellhousing should not be a huge issue. I do know that although they're a little bit on the pricey side a company called ZF make a beautiful pair of Transmissions that you can set up to run either direction

Darn, if only they were still around... I haven’t done my extensive research on the matter yet but I imagine I’ll be making a few phone calls before we find the solution. And thanks for the recommendation, we’ll look into them 👍🏻👍🏻
