That is awesome that it has ports to use an external antenna. With the older gateways devices you have to disconnect the internal antennas if you want to route them externally.
Nice ! Thanks for the video. I should be receiving my same set up tomorrow ! Keeping my fingers crossed that it all works out good enough so I can cut the cable ! ✂️ Their prices have just gone out of control especially in today’s economy.
I don’t doubt that have improved it tremendously but I am good I tried it before and gave it back one gig for me is the way to go with my netgear nighthawk WiFi 6e
Looks like you're golden either way but imagine this thing upstairs with an antenna. Hopefully we're just in the early days of 5G wireless Internet and it's only gonna go up from here.
i got mine a few days ago and yep... i cut the cable lol this does everything i need it to no data cap 50 bucks a month 22 devices hooked up not one problem ill take it!!! kool thing is u can use any antenna u dont have to use the one they say use i use 4 separate intennas works even better
well im what u call an existing customer and this is from what i read its only for new sign up customers 50 bucks is what im stuck with. new peeps will pay 60 0r 65 the speeds i get are still fine. i got mine like 2 weeks befor they changed it
It’s slightly unfair to compare feeds when you standing right in front of the new box and the old one is upstairs. But looks like you are getting great speeds on both. I’d like to get my hands on that new model with the external antenna support.
I have the black I assume old model and it's just on top of my fridge not near a window and also downstairs and not upstairs and I get great speeds like this. 550 down is pretty crazy.
Wow. This is the 5G plan?! I recently got them and they don’t even offer those speeds at my location unless I’m doing something wrong. At night my speeds slow down to unplayable amounts.
Hey buddy. How were you able to get one of those new gateways? I saw another video about these yesterday and contacted T-Mobile to see about swapping my Arcadyan KVD21 for the new one. The rep I chatted with said they won't be available until October. 😢
i just started a trial of the 5G home internet last week. probably going to cancel and sign up in a couple of months to guarantee I'll get this new gateway.
Is the new one better for gaming? I loved the original one, it was same design but the black version, it worked great except for gaming, which I need it for, even with a wire it was bad. Does the new one have a good gaming experience?
I dont know how many versions there are I think there might be 4 versions I'm pretty sure I have the previous model because in the back it says fast model. It highly depends on your location if you don't get a good signal it's probably not worth it
Lls I was bout to have my router hanging on the balcony window horizontally.. common sense kicked in and was like t mobile couldn’t have designed it to hang like this…
T-Mobile wont sent me one as of now and they also say that my area isn't accepting any more customers. So I guess their stuff is going to be living outside for a few more months.
@@10super speeds range from 150-220 down and 1-15 up which is great considering that I have had 1-3 Mbps Internet for the past ten years and my next best choice is 50 Mbps from a local ISP at 150 a month. However, because I am so far from the tower ping fluctuates a lot so I got the local ISPs 10 Mbps plan for playing games and just regular Internet usage. I just use T-Mobile for downloading games and watching movies. The ping on T-Mobile is what I want the new gateway for so I can add an external antenna but I don't mine paying 110 a month for both services since that's only 20 more than I was paying for 3 mbps a year ago.
Looks really nice. Can you use a tv antenna? As of this comment, I get 420/94 witht the previous gateway (black). I do hit 650 quite frequently. Edit: I just realize i was only 4 bars so i rotated and now get 483/90...
No you need an antenna designed for 4G LTE/5G signals with 4 SMB connectors, and cables from the likes of Waveform, which is also best to mount on the outside of your house pointing at your local T-Mobile Tower.
Reboots you mean updates ? That's weird I legit only got one update maybe mine is slow or because it's the previous model but everything is fine for me
It depends, direct sunlight can cause it to overheat because it is plastic, if possible I recommend placing it on a little table next to the window but behind the wall, not directly on the windowsill! Mine was not even near a window, it was in our living room and got 3 bars out of 5, but still worked well. Hope this helps!
I have seen videos of people talking about using it in multiple places. Don’t seem to have a problem, as long as they have a signal. However, I have seen at least one guy claimed that he carried it from state to state and it was eventually reported as stolen. It took him a while to get that straight. It might’ve been something else he did as well, or it may be moving between states may have been the problem. He didn’t seem to know.
Is that the maximum you ever get? As the instructions say, put it in the window directly facing the tower. The app has a tower locator function. I never get more than three bars, but my speeds are generally between 100 and 300 Mb per second download. If you’ve done, all that, a Gateway with an external antenna is the way to go. The new flat one would be the best choice, if you have an option if not, some of the other ones can have an external antenna, but you have to take them apart. there are videos on here about doing that. The 2 x 2 antenna is about $100 and the 4 x 4 antenna is about $200.
@@MrMikedeel I do have it in the window facing the tower - which is in my apartment complex - and I was getting 5 bars. It seems this tower is not up to 5G yet so I am only getting 4G LTE. I am simply going to have to wait until 5G is available in my area. Too bad as the price for T-Mobile Internet is so much better than Xfinity.
I’m trying to do that myself. But I can’t seem to get my hands on the new gateway. The local T-Mobile stores look at me like I’m speaking in tongues when I ask about it, and tech-support tells me they can’t choose which one I get sent. I’ll call them again in a couple weeks.
This is a bit aggravating. Someone who has absolutely no need for this modem gets it while those of us who live rural and need the external antenna ports get the shaft unless we are willing to activate another line and pay the $35 activation. Not bad enough to leave a thumbs down as I still appreciate the video.
Even then it's a gamble on whether or not you'll get it. They been having supply issues which is why they have soo many gateways in circulation right now. Some people are still getting the nokia and it's been a couple years now.
@@SpeedUpThatComputer Yep, no guarantees. Hopefully T-Mobile will see the light and work with customers who need to change their gateway but I don't see it happening. I'm fine with the speeds I receive, what I'm not okay with is 5G dropping off and not returning for days due to a shift in wind.
@@timmturner I agree T-Mobile needs to get their act together on this, and let customers choose which Gateway fits their needs, and just charge existing customers who want to upgrade the actual cost of the Gateway, plus a small upgrade fee(I'd rather they not, but if it gets them to do it in future, then so be it) for the Gateway that best suits our needs, but until that happens I have a saved search on eBay hoping one of these new Gateways pops up. Also I signed up back in Feb 2023, and got a Sagemcom Fast Gateway thankfully instead of the Nokia trash can, and I'm in a somewhat rural area of the southeast, and with 4 bars I'm pulling down 400Mbps - nearly 600Mbps(usually in the lower/mid 500's) by 50Mbps - 150Mbps up(usually 60Mbps - 120Mbps) with sub 24ms idle pings with my rare highs at 40ms, with very rare dips, so I honestly don't need the new gateway other than better placement of the gateway for better wife approval, and the fact I want to get the maximum speeds I can for my money being able to use an external antenna without mods to the Gateway, and never have to think about going back to Breezeline cable(formally Atlantic BroadBand) which has ripped off my small town for far too long on price vs. speed with poor customer service, or Frontier Communications DSL(they claim to be running fiber all over town but I ain't seen jack)which at current is a freaking joke given how slow they are, and how much they charge.
He has 2 of them active so he must of made a new line. Maybe you can talk with customer service and get the new one now since they are sending them out.
