The new Tablo is a major departure for the company. The fourth generation of the Tablo is a white circular device that can be hung on the wall like a security system or O2 detector. But it allows users to better place the device anywhere in the home that is advantageous.

Great video, I love mine..2TB of storage I record a lot, although it does not have channel skip, it is very easy to fast forward though commercials large viewing boxs to know were the program starts up again. It a win for me.

I just bought a 4th gen Tablo DVR and I really like the fact that it no longer has a subscription fee (the old Tablo did). I have the old Tablo - and will likely be keeping it due to the fact that it can stream TV remotely, while this new 4th gen one does not currently. We'll see if that changes, but overall I really like this new one and it's refresh of the interface and the backend.

How does an external drive need to be formatted? Fat32, ntfs, exfat?

Got one of these on the way. I've never owned a DVR for OTA tv as I have been using Sling or other cable like services that included dvr. But I'm going more hard core cord cutting and this looks like a perfect compliment to cord cutting. One question I have is how many live internet channels can it pick up? I would love to be able to pick up the Cinemavault channels for example to be able to record programs from those. Looking at some of these reviews it looks like it's not picking up as many live internet channels that are available through Roku. Is that the case?

I think it's around 60. They add new ones here and there. I'm sure it will grow. The fact that it's owned by a major broadcast company should help it make connections. And maybe it will prove popular enough to make others who stream ad-supported TV do the same. There are other streaming options with more for sure. But its not picking up on anything as much as they have agreements with services and also own some outright. It's amazing how much free streaming is out there now and how good it is compared to 12 years ago when all this was relatively new.

My experience: Channels don't populate pictures on recorder menu. Unit upgrades software every other day, irritating. App disappears randomly and requires a complete new install. Lots of irritating, time wasting glitches.

makes me laugh fake reviews and coments how great tablo is I bought it never worked past first day of use even after reformatting resetting as for local channels my area ct nyc market now have atsc 3.0 long island wliw 21pbs turned off there 1.0 now its 3.0 cbs nbc abc ruffly comes goes weak then strong.... dah.... not worth the stress of free tv... I ve read about adds beeing a problem with tivo while you watch hmmm... too expensive to keep free tv back to optimum cable
