Unfortunately the auto duck is destructive so if you want to move the voice clip the audio is still ducked .... unless Mike knows another trick to reinstate the volume that has been ducked

@@Andypppppppppp I did it as a final step and it worked incredibly well. Though some of my pauses cause the audio to return to its prior volume.

Great, per usual. As a newbie, I struggle with the ORDER in which I should perform tasks. I am moving my voice work entirely in-house (me only) and typically have voice with ocassiaonal background music or effects to work with. The 'whens' to normalize, reduce noise, add music, compress etc feel daunting just now.

I've been watching tons of tutorials on Audacity and taking notes, one thing I try to pay attention to is how different channels adjust different effects, i.e. compression, normalization, EQ etc. after I learned as much as I can from Audacity I want to spend the month of Feb. absorbing as much information about Adobe audition, then in march I will put what I learn to use and create more episodes for my podcast.

Hello Mike - Heard you were the AA guru from VOAngela! I can no longer see my audio waves. I can see my spectral frequency but when I play it back, my audio is very low. If I were to highlight the audiowaves and select Favorites-Normalize to -3db, then you can see my audio waves. I confirmed that my hardware preferences are correct and I've also played with the mic volume while recording. This just started yesterday while the past few weeks new with AA was no problem. Do you have some solutions?

Handy tips, thanks! Why would noise gates be considered better than noise removal tools? Whenever I use a gate it sounds worse because it just shuts off the noise during the pauses in my VO, and then lets in ALL the noise along with my voice, which just sounds bad and distracting to me. Oh, and more more question, how does Waves NS1 within Audacity compare to the built-in Audacity noise reduction?

The honest answer is that both should only be used as a last resort and noise sorted out before starting recording. If your background noise is as bad as described then a noise gate will draw further attention to it but the advantage of a noise gate with only a reasonable amount of background noise is that it doesn’t reduce audio quality which noise reduction will do. I’d recommend sorting the background noise before doing further recordings 👍

@@MikeRussell thanks Mike. The background noise isn't horrendous it's just my laptop fan as I am normally recording off + reading scripts from the laptop at the same. Good to know, I will try to reduce the noise but not too sure what I can do without a quieter laptop

Move the laptop as far away from the microphone and behind the microphone as possible
