Crystal Dynamics isn't mad, they're scared. If the remasters outsell their "modern" stuff, it blows up every narrative they've ever had or will have about their version of the game.
Oh trust me when the remasters get released fans of old school games will rejoice all around the world and I'm a fan of old school games myself I've been gaining since the 90s so I'm an OG gamer and I'm pretty excited to get my hands on these remasters cuz I've never played any of the Tomb Raider games

If the remasters are significantly more successful than the "new direction" then it opens the door to shareholders being able to hold management accountable to their financial responsibility.

i liked tomb raider 2016 or whatever year it was a lot. yeah they ruined the jumping and climbing but the dark, gritty atmosphere kept me hooked. rise was ok but not as good, and i could barely force myself to play through shadow. they've gotten worse with every game, and the last one was so bad i have no desire to play or even look into the next game, especially with the story leaks. sadly the next game will probably sell well regardless, and they'll continue this downward spiral with the series. this remastered trilogy is probably the last good tomb raider game we'll ever get.
@@Hear.myvoice Crystal Dynamics made Legends and Anniversary as well both great games even if one does not like the new trilogy the first trilogy Crystal Dynamics made was great. Apart from that if one has played the original Tomb Raider games back in the day that is a nostalgia factor to that as well which i doubt even Core designs would be able to live up to as was the case with Shenmue and how the newly made Shenmue 3 was not as highly regarded despite being very similar to the original games released about 20 years ago.
@@Hear.myvoice And that is exactly what I said that there is a sense of that nostalgia that would not be beaten by any other studio tackling the same game, Isn't Tomb Raider Anniversary a remake of the first tomb raider game? And it did have better controls and movement due to newer tech being available but I know people who still prefer the old one due to nostalgia when Anniversary is pretty much the same game just with quality of life improvements and some changes in the levels. I mean sure the 2013 trilogy is different but Legends trilogy is using the same basics Core tomb raider games had with modern quality of life improvements. I feel the same about games I had attachment with back in the day even if they get a sequel or spiritual successor that could be objectively better.
@@firzokkhan6443 Don't bring up TR: Annyversary... The boss fights, the music, the level design are all worse in that game and it's even easier. I know what you were talking about but I should feel nostalgia for the Legend trilogy too but I don't feel it because those games were weaker and I say this while I love Underworld but it's still a weaker game.
Core’s version of Lara will forever be my favourite. She was iconic. She always had the blue tank top, the brown shorts, dual pistols, backpack and her braid. That is what I think of when I think of Lara Croft. Core’s version was wonderfully sarcastic, witty, intelligent, determined, beautiful and all around badass. What I liked about her was that she wasn’t an outright hero. Her opponents often happened to be megalomaniacal villains who simply hired her to find historic artefacts they needed and they slighted her. I hope these remasters outperform some of the ‘triple AAA’ rubbish Crystal Dynamics has been pumping out. The only part of this new Lara I ever liked was her intelligence when it came to the collectible artefacts that could be found in the game world. It’s like a small part of the old Lara is there when you find something. Her barely holding on is put on the back burner and gives way to some insightful comments about what she’s found. Other than that, the new Lara is a whole other character.
Here’s hoping that the remasters sell well. Not only would it encourage a second Tomb Raider remaster trilogy but it could also open the door for other classic IPs from other companies to get similar treatment. I would love for the Thief, Syphon Filter, Heretic/Hexen, og RE, Team Silent Silent Hill, Mega Man Legends to name a few
as much I enjoy the story of the new god of war, gameplaywise they kinda suck, the classic ones deserve a comeback as well. I personally can still play them on my ps2 and ps3, but not everyone has this option and as much I love chain of olympus, it could need a little graphic update ^^; But really just a little. The trend of hyper realism kinda needs to die.
These games were not only popular because of Lara's beauty, they were also popular because of the difficulty of their gameplay and they are really very difficult that the satisfaction when completing a level is so incredible and is something that not many achieve. The marketing team is missing an opportunity by not focusing on that aspect of the game, being part of the elite that defeated a classic Tomb Raider, with its original controls of course. 🤦🏻♂
to be fair i dont even remember the silent hill remasters or dmc getting much coverage either...in fact i didn't even know about them for yrs after...remasters arent that big of a deal as new games...

I dont think im wrong by saying fans and gamers in general like to trying remasters and fans of a franchise even more, a well made remaster is very sweet to play. And in older games with low graphics, specially with low graphics like ps1 games were loved by its content and its challenge and challenges always can by pass on for a new generations to accept them and idk.. it feel wrong companies dont know why a game was awesome to play.
You know what would be funny? If the Embracer Group took the Tomb Raider IP away from Crystal Dynamics and let Aspyr develop the next games in the franchise. I mean, Aspyr already have access to the original game engine and source code, so they could build a brand new game that plays exactly like the classic ones. That's exactly what happened to Crash Bandicoot. They remade the first three games, it was great, then they made a new one like the old games, and it was perfect!

I preordered this as soon as it was available. Me, my uncle, and my sister are all super excited for this release. TR1 was the first PlayStation game I ever completed. It was epic! I remember seeing that giant Atlantean for the first time 🤯 so many awesome memories from that time.
@@hughmc1133 I’ll do what I want, thank you very much. But, I mostly agree with that. If this was a full $60 release, I definitely wouldn’t preorder. As it stands, I payed $26 for the preorder. If it releases in broken state, it’s not the worst thing. The last big game I preordered was Cyberpunk…..we all know how that went. Other than that, I got TOTK on day one. Unfortunately it didn’t really do it for me.

Atlantis in TR1 always was and is definitely one of the most scariest levels in TR! The beating heart sounds and the Atlantians coming to life and breaking through the giant eggs absolutely frightened me as a kid in the 90s! Remaster is gonna be epic❤
Hopefully it will sell well enough to push the remaster of the second trilogy (the last revelation, chronicles, angel of darkness) as well. TR4 is my favourite and it's sad to see it forgotten.
I hope they have a physical copy release, I want it to be just like the OG trilogy, everything's on the disc and you can play offline! Them tank controls was pivotal with the OG games because like her devs said way back during the time, her world's squared. Like Melonie mentioned, you had to think how Lara would move given the controls of the world at that time because EVERYTHING performed in such an exact way, you knew how far this jump or that would go and where you'd land. That quick 180° was so nice when you're running and then jumped in the air into a 180° flip to shoot the thing chasing you... so glorious when you pulled it off and your friends stared in awe (that or nailing that blind flying leap into the void and landing on that tiny 1x1 platform of safety without killing yourself.)
Lara Croft was always important growing up. Why? Some of girls had larger breast growing up. We were told we shouldn’t do sports or dance cause we didn’t have the correct body for it. She was a hero for us.
Her encouraging you to run or dance or do anything like that was inspirational for us young men too.... we all benefited and andored the late great Lara Croft 😢
The original team hated making Lara with her original model so much they colluded to get rid of bosses and staged walkouts and things like that. Its one if the most absurd stories of game dev ever. Its actually scary to know that hyper woke bullshit existed back then too
iv played all the tr games as well ,but it wasn't lara so much as the game play that i got into more...i didnt mind the 2013 lara either because she cant be the exact same as them original games,it wont cut it in this era...
I think the Lara in the new games is pretty cute and makes sense as an origin story, that origin story has been dragged on for 3 games though because they know it leads to a character that needs to resemble the Lara we knew and 3 games later people still wanted her to become that... I heard rumors about her being tougher in the next crystal dynamics game but more as in, a butch lesbian type of tough. Lord save us
I love how every game and movie since the original Core games ALWAYS fall back on trying to establish her history and why she became the Tomb Raider. Meanwhile, Core had a paragraph in the instruction manual that most people didn't read. The big difference between Classic Lara and all the others is agency. She's always doing it because of some trauma or following work from one of her dead parents. Meanwhile Classic Lara almost died on a vacation and became an adrenaline junky.

@@MisterBlackroad I think they disowned her in an attempt to get her to stop doing dangerous things for fun. I'm actually not sure if it was a proper disowning or just cutting her off from Croft funding. They did attend her funeral.

to be fair remasters ,even from main franchises arent that big of a deal...dmc,silent hill and mgs...to name but a few,dont get as much coverage as a new game...

I really hope that the remaster collection will have a physical release. Play Asia have different regions of the game listed on their website. This video reminds me that there is a ton of Tomb Raider fan level sets to playthrough. I played through Sabatu's Tomb Raider 1 Gold - The Atlantean Armor recently. I have enjoyed playing Sabatu's Tomb Raider levels, they make classic Tomb Raider seem like a walk in the park. I look forward to comparing the remasters with Open Lara and the Croft Engine which are both fan remasters of the first Tomb Raider.
I'm not a big Tomb Raider fan and I'm buying it day 1 on Switch. Can't wait to just mess around in Croft manor in TR2 again. It's honestly my favourite part of the franchise. 😂 That's one huge plus that TR Anniversary had going for it. A fully fleshed out and awesome Croft manor. I'd buy that again too just for the cozy and chill exploration.
The original CORE DESIGN games were amazing. Personally, I'm a big fan of the first game, Angel of Darkness and The Last Revelation. Hopefully this trilogy is a big enough success for Aspyr to remaster those awesome titles (and maybe fix Angel of Darkness' broken code). But I will say, Melonie, that although the Legend/Anniversary/Underworld trilogy felt like a watered down Prince of Persia at times... I will always appreciate those action set pieces and the grappling hook feature. I just really loved using that grappling hook when possible. Have a blessed day~!
angel of darkness sucked, it was slow paced, boring and setting it in the streets of paris was stupid idea...only good thing was the graphics ,for at that time on ps2 it was one of the best looking games ...
melonie thank you for everything you do for this community. without someone like you i think i would have left this fandom years ago. i was introduced to tomb raider when i was 10 in 2013. my dad showed me what CLASSIC tomb raider truly was when the reboot trilogy was revealed. and then me discovering youtube discovered you, i’m always just gonna prefer the classics to the reboot trilogy. (and honestly i even love legend trilogy , but the core games will always be the TOP TIER TR EXPERIENCE) i think if us classic fans didnt have you our history would be erased due to the pc , fake feminist at crystal. (also happy these remasters are coming out on laras bday because my bday is the 12th of february)

I liked the new tomb raider more tbh, Laura looked better and actually had a personality besides being a badass cool chick. Combat was awesome too btw, is the only reason you don't like it because of Laura's changes or the game itself?
I had this preordered the minute it was announced on Xbox Series X and also when you try to launch the game on Xbox it shows what the loading screen is for when it’s getting the game ready. The screen is of an FMV Lara Croft on a blue background with her autograph. Also I think Crystal Dynamics was just trying to sweep this under the rug as much as they could so that people would hopefully either forget about it or not even know that it exists in the first place. If this remaster collection by Aspyr makes a very sizable profit and if the next mainline Tomb Raider game that Crystal Dynamics is working on flops considering how much money they’re putting into it then Embracer will probably take the Tomb Raider IP away from them and hopefully give it to another one of their companies who cares or try to auction it off to another video game company cuz there are a lot of companies out there who would love to own the Tomb Raider franchise due to how iconic it is. Personally I could see someone like Capcom or SEGA owning it if Embracer does auction it off.
In their defense, they could spent tens of thousands of dollars or more on promoting the remaster release, or they can spend nothing and wait for Melonie to fangirl it all over the place for free (provided they don't fail miserably).
that wasn't i got tr games...it was the gameplay and that it had some of the best level design from that era...only being surpassed by its on 2007 remake..also i always liked ancient relics and monsters....
I have faith in the remaster since it's being handled by Aspyr which is part of Saber Interactive. They do great work on remasters and PC/console ports for older games.
I still can't get over Lara original design. It's too iconic to just leave behind. Some people say it's not realistic but to be honest I really don't care. I misst the silent and lonely scenarios full of puzzles with some jump scares of enemies appearing out of nowhere. I truly miss the old Lara Croft, I'm such a big fan of the series and I wish they focused more in what made Tomb Raider than adapting to the new styles like Uncharted for example...

Finally, once again, there will be Tomb Raider games where you, the player, are Lara. In the reboot series, Lara is ostensibly exploring, but you are following a pip on a map and interacting with surfaces marked as interactable. In the originals, you have to explore, you have to read the scenery in order to figure out how to traverse it, you have to find the secrets, the hidden switches and keys and so forth. You are doing the things that Lara needs to do in order to advance. Game designers seem to love taking agency away from the player, but the era of the original Tomb Raider was a different time and it's great to see those games make a comeback.
Personally, I am SO excited. Legend is what got me started on the franchise, but I've always wanted to play the Classics. And the option for modernized controls is going to be epic for people like me who aren't great at games 😂 I love the option to switch between the two, because it will bring in more players (those who want the old, and those who want the new). February can't come soon enough!! 💝

Really curious about the twinstick controls vs the tank controls for the platforming. There are many parts in the classic games which rely on you lining Lara up for a running jump.. where she has to run 1 block length in order to jump.
Actually the original controls are fairly easy and intuitive once they "click". Since everything was made of square blocks this allowed you to do absolutely precise jumps. Give them a try, do not be afraid. They might be a bit clunky at first if you are used to "modern" controls but they are perfect for the original games.
This new information and comparison short clips etc, and it looks absolutely GORGEOUS. It's how a Remaster should be. And OVER 200 Trophies 🏆 aswell for us trophy hunters, including one for Locking Winston in the Freezer 😂 It's perfect. I just HOPE The Last Revelations and Chronicles gets this EXACT same treatment. The Last Revelations was the BEST one.
I hope they remaster TLR and Chronicles as well. But more than that, I hope they later remaster Angel of Darkness, and fix all the problems that game had, (like the stupid "upgrade" system that only works in very specific spots and situations for god knows what reason). I absolutely love the atmosphere of that game, and it sucks that it is bogged down by bugs and design flaws. So, if these remasters (and potential TLR-Chronicles remasters later) are successful enough, I really hope they pick up Angel of Darkness and polish it to the level it deserved to be in the first place.
I would've loved to see a Tomb Raider parallel-cross-over universe in which the 2 Laras team up, but at the end of the game, OG Lara has to "end" reboot-Lara in the most brutal way possible.
I hope the game does sell well because then we’ll actually get to see classic Lara with some actual personality and story. Don’t get me wrong she was cool but I’d like to see them expand on her a lot more in a way older games couldn’t.
First off, I am incredibly glad that the Tomb Raider remasters are using the original source code, just buffed. I tend to mess around with the game files, level editors, asset editors etc. Since it's on the original engine, I will be able to get a closer look at the levels, and the new models. Also glad they allowed people to switch between classic and modern control styles, so that everyone can play it (even though tank controls are superior in this case). Also, I like the idea of remasters over a full on remake, while I love the idea of seeing the first 3 games reimagines in a brand new way, I personally prefer over the originals over Anniversary for example, all I needed was a fresh coat of paint on the originals and I'll be happy.
At first, I was skeptical about how they would do the remastered trilogy. But when I heard Aspyr was working on it, I kinda got a sigh of relief. They did great ports of some star wars games like jedi outcast, jedi academy, and republic commandos for ps4. So we'll see how it goes.
10:10 so this may be tmi, but my wife is very curvy (not fat at all). She was constantly told to hide her body, by Christian women who would say it would "cause the men to stumble" (by the way she never had a Christian man ever make her feel uncomfortable or "gazed" at), or by self-righteous and jealous women who told her to be scared of men b/c she was naturally curvy and men would do things. it took me years to get her to feel comfortable in her own body, to feel like her body wasnt a sin. I'm excited for the Remasters!!! I'm replaying the OG PS1 trilogy at the moment. And cranked up my classic tomb raider eBay purchases! No joke. Absolutely love what Tomb Raider was.. I don't know why they had to go and change her so damn much in those reboots.. I am so jealous of that life size Lara that you have!!! ❤❤

I will say I love that Playstation seems to be heavily promoting this, seems like we are back to the good old days there! ❤ Now I know people don't like them much (I've had good experiences, but only bought standard editions) but sort of hoping Limited Run Games at the very least release physical copies of these. Someone needs to! I will buy it twice if that is the case 😂
I left a comment to this effect a few years ago on Drinkers channel but I thought the new Tomb Raiders where going to tell you how Lara went from an unconfident mass Minecrafter to the badass duel wielding one culminating in a remake of the original Atlantis adventure in the new engine. Instead she became more apologetic and tepid with every new installment.

I noticed the silence as well, they're not even promoting it since the 1st trailer and images dropped! I'm getting early Cyberpunk 2077 vibes where there wasn't even a demo to play/early access playthroughs from gaming channels to give us a more in-depth look... It may look good but how will it play? How much love and effort will they put into bringing back the REAL Lara Croft? I wish the Last Revelation was included because that's my favorite game in the series :(
I remember all the articles back then of Lara Croft on PS1. There was an easter egg in Duke Nukem TTK. There was also the "nood" code that was a hoax. Classic Lara is my favorite Lara.
I love your passion for Tomb Raider Melonie! I was a little kid when these games came out and barely touched them since I wasn't so adept at playing games back then. I did get the first 4 games on Steam and tried them a bit but I had problems streaming them as you mentioned, so this will definitely be more accessible for me! I will be eyeing this remastered collection since I would love to dive back into retro games that were hip when I was a little kid.
I honestly would prefer the updated controls. As a fan of the Resident evil remake HD, I felt it improved the flow of the gameplay. There was only one part in the game where I felt the og control was necessary when carrying an explosive item. Also, I am hoping for a physical copy!!
IMHO the Aspyr team should add new stuff on top of the old mechanics such as Lara being able to cut rope with holding knife in her mouth, new types of traps including toxic gas, electrical wires, acid filling chambers. On top of that rooms with limited time open paths/bridges to the next stage is a great idea. New enemy creatures with multiple attack types and their respective animations on the map. New boss types that can potentially one shot or two shot Lara if the boss gets in close proximity. Adding snow effects causing Lara to be submerged up to 1/4 into the snow and walk slower than normal (not being able to see bear traps deep in snow), rainy wet effects causing her hand grip to last a shorter amount of time on some surfaces. Lara should be able to shoot down glass windows with her guns! Cut through wired fences, using wire cutters and disable traps with new tools and upgrades she finds a long the way however the new shortcut paths she opens up has new challenges, so there is no easy way out in the game... The final cherry on the cake would be multiple ending of the game depending on the paths Lara chooses along the way, so you can have a good ending, mediocre ending and a horrible ending! ☺☺☺
Please pin or heart this. The reason why Crystal Dynamics refuses to promote or market the Remastered, is because they don’t like sexy/feminine Lara. They will FOR SURE promote an ugly/weirdly proportioned/masculine Lara Lesbo in a heartbeat though!
I wish somebody would make a proper Lara Croft 1/12 scale toy. We already have third parties like Lim Toys making Resdient Evil toys. I wish they'd make Lara Croft soon. They're gonna make Arthur Morgan in the future.
Modern analogue controls would actually make platforming harder because digitally, you tap up and down to move Lara to jump 1 square space forward and back, it's common practice to walk to the ledge, tap back to the back of the square and you now have the exact length to do a running jump, also, tank controls allows percise direction aiming for a jump. So analogue controls won't allow you to cheese the game in anyway, it'll probably be less of a headache for the non-platforming though and the camera controls will be a needed improvement too.
Yeah, it's very weird to me. I know they say physical media is dead but I'm not even seeing a preorder for a physical copy. A game like this deserves a physical release with a reversible cover, an art book or even a PS1 era Lara Croft Statue. I'm getting nervous about the game. I think they know it'll do well so they're purposely not promoting it so it'll flop & then they can say "ok let's give them what they want" then it flops due to their own stupidity & then they'll say "see there's no demand for it. We told you so. Now we can do whatever we want. So stop asking for a remake. We gave it to you & nobody wanted it"
Big fan of the originals. Had high hopes that they would not ruin this. And it seems they haven’t. As long as we can save anywhere in ALL the games and keep the rest the same, then all is good. better graphics, boss battle health bar and save anywhere. win win win

I really hope they bring the Trilogy out on Physical because I'm really looking forward to this game and see if I still got it. I can't find myself to go back to Shadow, or Rise because they just don't feel the same.
